Cable TV/internet in homes in the USA wasn’t being rolled out starting in late 90, it dates a lot earlier decades, at latest 70s but some areas starting in 50, and 60. What you probably meant is fiber was moved closer to homes to accommodate for growth in cable channels, video on demand and broadband internet using DOCSIS protocol. Cooper was replaced with fiber to neighborhood node. Lately cable companies have started removing amplifiers between node and premises to future proof network for faster speed especially in upload.
@bareb7251
@bareb7251 5 жыл бұрын
So, the order from worst to best is: FTTN < FTTC < HFC < FTTP Am I correct in saying this? (Only reason I put HFC before FTTC is due to the rollout of DOCSIS 3.1 as well as Duplex which could be a possibility in the future supporting 10Gbps symmetrically with HFC).
@TechManPat

If someone wants FTTP NBN they they have to get a quote from NBN and costs $600 and to get the fibre put under the footpath costs about $10,000. The guy I know has HFC in there street the moment.

I got my NBN switched this January, and my pre-existing HFC was severely downgraded by the FTTN installation. I went from 100MB down 1MB up to 10MB down and 5MB up. They said it would only be cut in half, and I would get 13MB upload, which is already rubbish, but I get this significantly worse rubbish instead. Fail government. Fail NBN co. Fail ISPs. Fail network techs. Fail voters. Fail proletariat. Fail Country.

@TechManPat
@TechManPat 2 жыл бұрын
You can do a couple of things, the issue is that in both circumstances you will need to run a new cable, sounds like ot would best to splice the phone cable to your room via the cat6 it’s a bit fidly but possible. I’m also going to guess you may have fibre so best thing to do is run a Ethernet from the stairs to the cat6 point you have in the room…

1:19 This is me, I've had HFC for 10-15 years, most of the time better than and more reliable than FTTN from what I've read and heard. Isn't HFC and FTTN pretty much the same thing except for the copper used for delivery to the premises; FTTN using phone lines and HFC using PTV cables? I'm so glad I've never had to deal with ADSL, ADSL2 or FTTN since getting HFC.

I will be able to get HFC to replace my existing Cable Broadband I've had for the last few years. I am currently getting speeds of 113 Mbps Down but admittedly only 5.3 Mbps Up during peak times. I don't upload much so I don't mind. I currently only have to pay A$70.00 for my landline and Broadband bundle. The new and improved NBN bundle will provide indicatively 85 Mbps Down and 30 Mbps (typical) up for A$120.00 . Unfortunately I can't stay on my old Cable past July. So that should be fun. Thanks LIBERAL government for destroying the one opportunity this country had to get our communications system right and leaving us with a complete farce of a system that will need to be upgraded in the future at multiple time the original cost, to score political points.

fttp/ftth/Fois; fibre in the home Fttn/Fttc: same technology with 1 difference 1 provides vdsl only.. 1 provides fibre to the actual pit with either vdsl or lan/wan services within a 100 meter length with options to provide upto 10Gbit to the home.. Noting with ftth in play you can provide cable services via standard connection or home link fibre backbone.. noting 1 requires a media connection.. the other 1 either uses eithernet or fibre connected lan.. on 10+gbit network connection long term it is cheaper long term to install ftth and change the media interface to give 100+gbit services than it is to keep servicing the D/A conversion fttn nework with no analog signaling in play to stop interference in finding a good pair of telephone cables
