I had the same issue with the drum sander. I had to polish up with fine sandpaper - and I suppose remove a few thou off the shaft of the bet sander before the drum sander would mount.

Steve, I replaced the tubes on my 500 to make a shorter version, primarily due to storage plans. I use it primarily for jointing and sanding (and yes my drum sander attaches without issues. I use my Mark 7 for all other operations.

Back n the 1980s, I used to dream about owning a ShopSmith. I was young and broke and in the Navy. It's a mechanical marvel. My concern was switching around to different operations being too cumbersome. When you can go from one purpose built tool to another (like I do now) instead of flipping attachments, it's a huge time saver. I'm sure SS has a market, though. I might buy one aftermarket and set it up for specific uses or just out of nostalgia and curiosity.

I love my shopsmiths. If you have room and all of the equipment already I can't see a reason other than to play with it. Which is certainly a good enough reason. I don't find switching cumbersome but I don't turn out volume products. I personally like having two shopsmiths. It gives me enormous flexibility. My main reason for liking them is quality vs price. For about $250 I get all of the features and then some. They usually come with spare goodies too. If you like playing with tools they are as fun as it gets. If you just want to use your shop for wood working, also get one. Sorry I just love them :) either way making sawdust is the game.

What was the part that wouldn’t fit on the belt sander as I don’t have that accessory?
@StephenADraper6 ай бұрын
The drum sander fits on the regular arbor for doing sanding in the drill press position. It is also supposed to fit on the belt sander.

@@StephenADraper You tried to attach 3 different parts on the Shopsmith belt sander and you couldn’t get it to accept any of them. What was that part? What is it’s purpose?
