You're so right, Hickock. I have a built-in radar avoidance mechanism for the very people you're describing... charismatic, magnetic, dominant personalities. They are an immediate turn-off for me. My suspicions kick in immediately, and I avoid them at all costs. They are nearly always phonies, and the worst kind of manipulators. I trust people who espouse common sense intelligence, who express humility, and respect for others, and have a self-deprecating sense of humor. People like yourself.

That is me. I am a non-conformist. With that said, I was forced to conform when I enlisted in the US Marine Corps back in 1977. An example of my non-conformity: During the COVID shutdown, I rebelled against all of the rules and regulations. I refused the vaccinations. I have never been tested. I only wore a mask in order to obtain vital services. I live in a very small town in West Virgina. We have just one grocery store and it was requiring masks to enter. They even posted someone outside to enforce that policy. I have an old military cold weather helmet liner, which has a wide velcro chin strap. I would wear that into this grocery store, by pulling the chin strap up to where it pretty much covered my nose and mouth. It was my way of showing my distaste for the rules, but it still got me past the mask police. Having to do the 6ft social distancing in stores just grated on me. I just marveled at watching all of the overweight people, wearing 2 or more masks and seeing the mask material moving in and out with their labored breathing. In hindsight, I was right, all along. I refused to live in fear of a virus that was going to run its course, no matter the precautions.
