I haven't flown in 16 years, this spring I'm going to fly for the first time in a long time. I bought a Malibu Sport and I'll be flying the Lewiston grade in Idaho for my first flight. Giving my self plenty of room. You guys posting these gooning flights, thanks for that, lm paying attention. Stay safe.

Thanks, great to hear! That place looks nice....can you top land?

I can’t believe a beach cruise would be so bumpy air. Any beach cruise I took was always very smooth air…

Great fun / beach flying, done loads of that in the 70s.. (Brian Wood)

Nice Andrew. Looks pretty North that day. It takes skills to be that low and not land out right away. Just keep going North and looking for that bump. Downwind it back to the old ramp next time for more lift.

Silky smooth "dune-gooning" as experienced by Australians isn't possible at many western US sites. Cold Pacific Ocean water makes sinky air and turbulence as it tumbles up the shoreline.

Usually it's a bit smoother, but the beach flying in Australia does look pretty spectacular.

Wow,, that was pretty rough air! Great job considering!

I was very lucky when I tried unconciously this take off from a beach in a very windy day. That wind It´s not funny, how many turns you were prompted to take when a wind gust hits you? and, how many were your decission? You were an oscillating human pendulum! control in this situation doesn´t exists...I really think you were lucky. Best winds!

Hah, it's not usually this exciting, even at Marina beach! That day was just really gusty.
@aleshamahon Жыл бұрын
Why is that? Haven’t done either yet but my understanding is that hg can handle rough air better, can deal with a wind increase better and obviously don’t collapse.. basically superior in everything other than portability on the ground, but I’m interested in flying and not how portable it’s on the ground…

I think you might need a larger Cocoon?
@andrewbalk69743 жыл бұрын
This one usually works well...part of the problem is my new shoes, which are way bigger on the outside.
@Hangglide3 жыл бұрын
You lost lift / landed because the new big shoes, right? Otherwise you could fly prone and fly longer?
@andrewbalk69743 жыл бұрын
@@Hangglide Yeah I think I could have stayed up longer. Really it was gusty and I chickened out, although the shoes didn't help.

Funston seems like the better coastal site. So hard to stay up on those shallow dunes.

Yeah Marina can be a challenge, but that's why I like it; it's a different kind of flying.

Thanks...watching the video I'm kicking myself for not hanging in there a bit longer, but I had some good ones later that day anyway.
