Canada and the US share a great deal. This includes a lot of fundamental laws. However, there are certainly areas where Laws are different between Canada and America. We explore 5 laws here where the definition of right and wrong differ between the two countries.
Many will argue that there are many differences between Canadians and Americans. This is true. We do share a similar language, but there are definitely differences like different laws in the USA.

Lawyer here 2. Is most definitely not true. You can say sorry for someone’s well being in an accident. Just staying they can try to sue but won’t win.

@@videostar2528 Probably not many differences you'll see at the citizen level, unless you're really attached to the idea that walking through a Walmart with a loaded handgun on your hip is a normal thing to do on a Wednesday. Canadian law says everyone else has the right and freedom to not let you do that. On the other hand, USA corporations and businesses have many more freedoms to cheat and gouge their customers, since they've been allowed to right the same regulations they're expected to work within. Hospitals are free to bill people any ludicrous amount they please, regardless of how little the actual cost of giving care is. Food production industries have the freedom to leave a lot more filth (bugs, rat droppings, etc) and toxic chemicals, and cancer-causing flavour additives into the food your family eats. Your government has the freedom to basically ignore your vote, and only about 500 or so people called "electors" are actually important enough that their votes are real. Your police have the right to pull their guns out of their holsters on the flimsiest of excuses and more often than not enjoy a lot of Freedom under "qualified immunity" to commit as many crimes as they like. I could keep going, but that's plenty of "rights and freedoms" the US has that Canada doesn't.

Hell, the drunken bush parties started happening when I we were 16 years old, early high school. We went with the philosophy that "it's not a real party until somebody stumbles into the bonfire at least once!" Honestly I don't think we're even super strict about enforcing the drinking age of even 19... aside from not being able to directly purchase booze from a store. In fairness the fines for the vendor are a lot more than they'd make selling a few more bottles.

There's only a couple small regions with that sort of accent. What you're thinking of, are two comedians putting on a show mocking a pretty local redneck-equivalent they called Great White North.

Kind of a random selection. Can I throw in one that might be more useful to people? In the USA, despite what the cop who pulled you over demands, unless you're being charged with a crime, you technically do not have to identify yourself or provide ID. In Canada, you absolutely do, even if the "vehicle" you're "operating" is a bicycle. Show them who you are, be polite and respectful, and assuming that unconscious body you have in the trunk doesn't wake up at an awkward moment, you should be just fine. Canadian cops are generally just checking to see if there IS a problem, rather than looking to create a problem.

I'll shorten it for you: Canada does not have a significant gun violence problem because restrictions on private gun ownership have always been strict, and the number of guns in the country at all is miniscule. Rifles for hunting purposes are an exception. Handguns are virtually impossible to get legally. In the US, a cop pulls you over with one hand on his weapon and shouts at you to keep your hands on the wheel where he can see them. In Canada a cop pulls you over, walks over with his hands already occupied with a note pad, and asks you how your day is going in a friendly manner that he actually means (because he's not at all concerned you might have a gun). As a result of all this, violent crime in Canada is about 1/10th the rate per capita of the USA. *We like it that way.* Leave you Glock at home, cowboy.

Interesting tidbits. But shame on you, as a Canadian, to call the United States “America” in your title !!! America is a continent of which Canada is part, as many other countries in Central and South America...although I understand that United States citizens like to think that they own the whole continent...

That's an interesting comment. I get what you are saying, but I've never referred to myself nor even thought of myself as being from America. North America sure, but not America. Would be curious to hear what others say.

@@CanadianExpat I can see Can Bec's point about them 'owning the whole continent' , but when I say I'm from Canada the Greeks will sometimes say 'So you're an American'. I always say, 'No, I'm a North American, not an American. Americans are USA citizens.' I think it's a matter of practical usage...

"North America" is the continent. "The Americas" refers to both North and South America in the very rare occasion you need to. We in Canada freely use "American" as an easy short form for "Person of the United States of American" (much as they themselves do) not to be inclusive, but just because it's much shorter and easier to say. We never refer to ourselves as "American". We are "Canadians" and glad of it!
