Please note that I switched the original solar pump to electric one so it can run from early morning into the evening. One thing I like to mention is after the first few day running this fountain, I saw dust accumulated in the bowl. So I would recommend soaking the cement piece for few day, rinse it before running in the fountain.

I came for the fountain, but when the whole thing with the plant stand and the fountain was finished, it blew me away at how beautiful it is. Will take your fountain idea and create a base of my own. Thank you for sharing and the inspiration!

Watched a lot of DIY fountains and this is by far the best one. Not just because it is relatively easy to make but due to its beautiful, clean design. Everything is hidden without using a ton of fake plants or having to glue a pile of rocks together. It looks very relaxing.

Does Lowes, Home Depot, or someone else already sell a 10" concrete patio stone that is about as thick as yours where all I would need would be to buy a concrete drill bit to drill a hole for the hose? Better yet, do you know of a retailer that has the 10" concrete patio stone already with an adequate sized hole? Please advise. Best regards.
@deb8534
@deb8534 Жыл бұрын
I'm sure if you look at Lowes, Home Depot, or Menards you should be able to find either walking pavers or patio stones. Drilling holes in them may be difficult as they might crack or otherwise break but I guess it's worth a shot if you don't want to pour your own.

Jodi Spade hi Jodi. If you look closer, when I place the rocks near the end there is a black cord hanging on the edge of the bowl. That connects to the solar panel, I just place the solar panel on top of my patio cover, to maximize sun exposure. Hope this helps.

I like this design but what do you do when the water evaporates? The water in a bowl like that would evaporate in 1-2 days in the Arizona sun where I live. Also plastic components degrade quickly in UV light.

Hi Robert. Thank you!! I used Quikrete Motar mix for this project because it’s the smallest package available at the time. Just soak the piece in water for a few day AFTER it’s completely dry and cured, so the loose sand won’t cloud the water. Have fun making it!

How does the water come thru the tube you placed in the 10” tray when there was no hole in it? It says “ place tube thru cement piece then the clear plastic saucer........etc” but when did you put a hole in the 10” plastic tray/cement ? All I saw after watching 3 times, was when you put a container lid and pressed down to make a slight depression in the wet cement. I can’t imagine you drilled it in AFTER the cement was set.....
@mydiyfountain7054
@mydiyfountain7054 Жыл бұрын
Hi Bobbi. It’s shown at 1 minute and 21 second mark. After I removed the green cap, I put the tube in when the cement was still wet so it created a hole for later use. Make sure to remove the tube after 2 hours when cement still wet, so it is not stuck in the piece.🙂
@A2D4
@A2D4 Жыл бұрын
@@mydiyfountain7054 Thank you so much for your reply. I did see where you put the green cap....I guess I missed where you put a hole in the plastic saucer. When you were shaking it to settle the wet cement evenly, why didn’t the cement go thru the hole? I must be really dense but I want to try this project and want to make sure I don’t miss a step. I appreciate your patience with me!! 😊

I sure wish I could have some faith in solar power!!! Have purchased three pumps totaling some $90 and NOT ONE worked as advertised. Not one. Full sun, cloudless sky and barely three drips from what should have been a two-foot spray. I would say what they were really good for but that wouldn't be socially acceptable.

Tina Monroy I purchased my pumps from Amazon.com. You can search “40 GPH solar pump” at Amazon.com. Choose the one that comes with a wire and a separate solar panel. It comes as one piece so no assembly required. You can also buy an electrical pump for a more reliable performance, since any shadow over the solar panel will decrease the water flow.
