I follow both channels trying to learn and develop a style. I have not actually got started yet but seeing my two favorites together like this was a huge encouragement. Look forward to building a future together as a team.

What about culling everything in Nov, get eggs in February and get eggs when they are 8 weeks old and start all over. That is what I am thinking of doing for meat and eggs for me and my husband

is it possible to breed my coturnix quail upto jumbos by breeding my biggest birds ?

@@MyshireFarm oh will they also be able to produce jumbos ? From their eggs? If i produce jumbo quail then will they be able to hatch jumbo chicks?
@Aseel_Zone2 жыл бұрын
And how much maximum weight can i get by this method?
@libertymicrofarm60322 жыл бұрын
When I was raising my quail, I would start my chicks out on Turkey starter or game bird feed (30% protein) whichever was available at the feed store. And after they started laying (at 5-8 wks), I would transition them to a 50/50 mix or game bird and chicken layer feed. My quail cages were hanging in my enclosed chicken run and it was just easier for me to feed my quail and chickens the same feed. Both my chickens and quail would do great on the mix. I did learn however that the quail would go through way more feed on the mix, than on straight game bird feed (and my chickens would go through less 😉) I also loved having my quail cages in the chicken run because the chickens would scratch through the quail droppings spreading them out which would help dry it out and the chickens would take care of any fly larvae. My rabbit cages also hung in the chicken run. Having all my animals together cut my chore time down exponentially
@libertymicrofarm60322 жыл бұрын
I should also mention my focus was on meat production. So ya I needed eggs but with 25 hens and gathering eggs over a weeks time, it was easy to gather enough eggs to do a hatch about every 6 wks. We had a constant supply of meat in our freezer. While still having an over abundance of eggs to eat and give away… I eventually got a game bird license (required in my state) so I could sell quail eggs

I have my quails in my shed (with the door opened everyday) for 3 months, and non of them produced any eggs. Can someone please tell me why is that?
@philipturner1602 жыл бұрын
How much light hours do they get? I built my shed, covered coop etc with poly roofing which allows the light in. If I want to keep them laying in the winter I use a light timer hooked up to cheap 20ah or 12ah 12v batteries to add to the light hours.
@MyshireFarm2 жыл бұрын
They need a min of 16 hours of light a day to produce. Also they need constant feed and water and 3 quail per sq ft and 5 hens to 1 male
@backyardshenanigans41002 жыл бұрын
I feed game bird starter mixed with layer feed and I add extra calcium.

Can someone drop me a link of someone selling quail laying coop for outside? I can't find 1 on the internet. I get rabbit coop instead; is that the same? Can I use rabbit coop for quails?
@TheFloridaprepper2 жыл бұрын
I use wire rabbit cages and they will work fine. Never had a problem with quail launching themselves onto the increased ceiling height and bashing their heads. If you keep them outside, one thing you have to do is zip tie hardware cloth about 1/3 - 1/2 way up from the bottom. If you don't, raccoons, bobcats, whatever can reach into the cage and grab the birds and somehow rip them out even though it looks impossible.

Are able to build a coop? 2 weeks ago I went to Lowe's to pick up plywood it was 78.00 a sheet I went in yesterday and the price dropped to 50.00 a sheet I was so happy I got a sheet and I am going to start building myself, due to the 80 quail I am hatching out

@@TheFloridaprepper I bought this 4 level plastic quail cage and I have it in the shed. Because there's not much light in there, my quails are not producing any eggs, so I decided to put them outside.

My concern is the heat. I love in the Phoenix area and after building a small coop, now we're concerned about them being too hot for them.maybe putting a ceiling fan inside would help in the summer? Or is outside better under shaded porch.
@azpugmom51382 жыл бұрын
I'm in the Phx area too...the summers are a huge concern. Mine are in a cage like Chris' but without the roof as it's under the patio cover. Shade is a must with good air flow. Fans yes. I also use ice packs when it's over 105.
@MyshireFarm2 жыл бұрын
Natural shade is best. The heat really does not bother them too much. Shade and getting out of the elements and a constant source of fresh water is key

hey Zack my quial are on grass and I move them every day and I am down to 9 quail and they die out of no where I ordered off u these are 6 weeks I ordered in February and they hatched in February 30th and now still don't lay eggs and I was at 11 and down to 9 and they are not that old and they get oysters and get 18 percent protiend and 18 percent calcium and u told me my feed was okay the one they are on about 4 lives ago I asked and u said it was okay
@MyshireFarm2 жыл бұрын
I would stop moving them as that stresses them out. They need 16-18 hours of light a day and 18% calcium is way way to high. It should be 3%
@hobbyfarm68832 жыл бұрын
I put them in there move them and they are always better because my pen is on ground so it get muddy after a while
