I bought a 2011 ML350 4matic as my first car just over a 1.5 years ago and good lord was it a great purchase. $18,000 and 85k miles on it, cloud grey with new wheels, brakes, and fluids. I've already put over 15,000 miles on it. The performance and ride comfort is unparalleled. It feels like a tank, and rides like a cloud. Only sometimes I wish I had the V8 550, but then the engine hits 3500rpm and I forget such silly thoughts. It looks so sleek and beautiful, my coworkers often envy and my girlfriend loves it just as much as I do (ok, maybe not as much but she still likes it a lot!). Most people ask me if it is a 2015 or 2016 model! They're blown away when I tell them to go back another decade. I feel safe driving it in any environment, and confident taking it to the middle of nowhere, knowing it'll get me back home without breaking a sweat. This car works perfectly for my everyday driving to school and work, but it thrives as a roadtrip king. I can eat up mile after mile in my ML without noticing, and it only gets better mileage as well. A few weeks ago I went on a 650 mile roadtrip roundtrip, and averaged 22mpg and only going through 1.5 tanks of gas.The space is perfect for me, I've taken it on a few camping trips and I'm able to load everything I need very easily, and it's nice knowing that in the future I can add a trailer to it or some nice roof racks as well. I won't lie, I've even been tempted by the ram bars because little kid me saw them in Jurassic Park like that, but I want to keep the clean look instead. So far I have had only one unexpected issue with the brakelights. Apparently the wiring harness on them is weak and known to fail on many MLs, but the fix was only $150 from the dealer. Since the engineering is so smart too I was still able to drive around as it used the tail lights as a backup brake light. Look up how the repairs look on youtube and you can spot if it has been done to an ML you want to purchase, as it will likely need changing at this point in time. In addition, I had my service A, transmission service, and spark plugs done since I've owned the car. Service A from my SoCal dealership cost $250. The transmission service I was originally quoted at $626. I used an online coupon, and because I made my service guys laugh on a early Saturday morning, they only charged me $300 (that was possibly the luckiest day of my life, next to meeting my girlfriend). The sparks I changed myself from watching YT videos, and only cost about $100 after buying all parts and tools. Dealer was trying to charge $500. It did eat up 6 hours of my time though, but was well worth it. Soon I look at replacing my front rotors, tires, brakes, and replacing the air filters and swapping differential fluids. All costly, but I was aware this will need to be done in time. And it will be well worth it to keep my beast on the road for many years to come.

@@rm617 Mine is outfitted with about every option; including sport rims, keyless entry, push start/stop, LED lights, rear DVD players, etc etc.. very rare for the 2006 - 2011, making it the ultimate W164. Carfax showed every service done at dealer previously with the cleanest interior I've found. And the price is after tax too, the sticker was $15k, so I would say it was fair, especially as depreciation has changed since then. A 2013 was closer to 20k minimum then, and I don't really like the styling of that year/model. Hope you are enjoying it as much as I am enjoying mine!

I think there are big mistakes in this review. V6 ml 350 and v8 500 before facelift are with m112 and m113 engines and doesn't have any issues with balance shaft and chains. Early facelift models with m272 and m273 engines are those with balance shaft problems. But they also being fixed after few years around 2010. You can check serial number of you engine if it is affected or not.

I have been very happy with my '06 ML350, now with 133k miles. Just routine maintenance and oil changes. The power steering did have a leak, I bought a $4 O-ring from Mercedes and changed it myself. It was at the power steering reservoir, very common issue. I have owned several MB cars through the years but this is my first SUV from them. I love the way it rides, the roominess, and it is one of the safest vehicles on the road. I plan to upgrade to the updated 2012+ model, just waiting for that model to depreciate a little more😊 before pulling the trigger.

Both of those engines are Mercedes’ most common engines! If you don’t recommend either of them, maybe you should be presenting a Toyota instead! My experience, from watching/reading a lot of reviews, is that the 350 V6 is very reliable, but it is also true, replace the timing chain at the given service interval, or risk a BAD failure, that will destroy the engine.

Your information on the ML500 is not correct. The M273 engine is the one with the problem, but there were ML500's (2006-2007) that were equipped with the older 5.0 M113 E50 engine. Those were not affected by the balance shaft or sprocket issue.

@different car review Wait Wait Wait... the 306 power engine is the M113, isnt the m273 the one with the balancing shaft sprocket failure? not the M113? as far as I know the M113 is one o the most reliable engines MB has ever produced, on par with the 55 AMG one... Am I correct? please tell

My 2007 has been in the workshop 7 months because of a programming issue. The car is mechanicaly perfect. Just software problem. When the workshop changed oil in the gear box, they damaged the pins of the computer. They decided to put a new gear box computer and nobody has been able to program it correctly

Hi , awesome video ... I am interested on buying a 2010 ml 350 with the v6 3.5 L .. Do you know if this engine has the problems you mentioned on the video ? or do you have any advice for it ? thanks
@differentcarreview-dcr7 жыл бұрын
Hi, the 3.5 l from 2010 is reliable, so it can have only regular petrol engine isses, check for leaks and the engine has to be smooth on idle with no strange rattling/ticking noises
@darioreyes2367 жыл бұрын
Thanks.. do you know if the leaking or the ticking noise could be for bad maintenance or is it a problem that the engine with time will give you ? because the Ml I'm trying to buy does not have leaks o ticking noise .. however it has 80000 miles .. Thanks
@differentcarreview-dcr7 жыл бұрын
Yes, those sounds are the result of bad maintance, but the leaking will appear on all the engines, becuase the rubber parts/seals are getting older. 80 000 mi is not a high mileage, if you do the regular mainatance, change the oil regulalry and use quality fuel, then the car can whitstand 160 000 mi with no big problems. Also it's extremely important to let the cold engine warm up-low RPM for the first 15-20 km and just then you can push it really hard.

Dario Reyes V6 3.5 owner here... I'm about to hit 110k miles and have only had to do basic maintenance so far. My only trouble has been the engine eating the oil rather than actually leaking it. Have to top off a good quart every couple hundred miles. The radio also malfunctioned on me which was incredibly frustrating but that seems to be a rare occurrence.

Thank You so much for the info. So to confirm, a 2007 320 CDI with about 123,000 miles is a reliable vehicle?
@wavegang53835 жыл бұрын
That’s what I was wondering. I’m suppose to be buying one tomorrow
@Janfey4 жыл бұрын
I have had one for over 3 years.. I have had oil cooler leaks, intake manifold changed for both sides, sensor problems for 7 speed automatic transmission, startmotor changed and one of the pipes for turbo popped while accerelating. Also some grounding issues that drained my battery. wouldn't call it reliable, but it's damn fine car when it happens to work.

I had a 2007 ml320 I bought with 56,000 miles. Drove it to 120,000 with few issues. Main issue was the electronic lift gate failure and the electronic transmission module. I drove the car very hard on rough Costa Rican roads! Would highly recommend!
@jameshansen893111 ай бұрын
Sorry but you don't know what you're talking about. The M113 V8 has no timing chain guide issues. That is a problem on the engine that replaced the M113. I have personally put 300K miles on two different E 500s with no problems at all. The 7-Gtronic automatic transmissions are the real problem. No matter what, you have to replace them before 200k miles. Period. They simply don't last like the old 5-speeds do.

Amir Ajami - Mercedes is more expensive to maintain than Toyota/Honda. If you’re on a budget, buy a used Japanese car.

When a car vibrates at a certain speed, the issue normally would be the balancing of your tyres. While you getting your tyres re-balanced, check out the Alignment as well.

Wich one do you consider buying, the mb ml 320 d or the bmw x5 3.0d, both of 2.008 and160.000 km? Wich one is more reliable for an every day car? I also live in a place with many road holes. Greetings.
@differentcarreview-dcr7 жыл бұрын
In this case I would choose the Mercedes, because it is more comfortable and overall a little bit more reliable too. So, if the mileage is real and if the car is in good condition then it should whitstand another 50 000 - 100 000 km whitout any big problems.
@parloidsorcus7 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for answering! What do you know about land disco 3, also from 2.008 and 160.00 km, is it reliable or have many troubles as I’ve read somewhere? Does it work ok whith official service or despite that is problematic?

How do I distinguish the normal suspension from the air suspension?
@Forferdelse6664 жыл бұрын
Airsuspension has the belgs in the front and back, they are visible behind each wheel - although on the backwheels they are abit more hidden than on the front. Car feels v soft as you drive over bumps etc.

I guess I will not be looking to upgrade from a clk 320 to a ml 350 blue tec. I don't need u reliability and that seems to be common in most manufacturers today, which is bullshit!
