Thanks so much for this video, I love 😍 „the naked series“...! I knew before, WHAT differential transport does, there’s a bazillion of videos which tells you: „set high, for ruffles, set low, to sew on elastic“, but this is the only video I’ve ever seen, which explains HOW it works! Now this may not turn me into a master seamstress, BUT I‘m sure: The better you know your machine, and the more familiar you are, with how it actually works, the more confident you‘ll get, in using it. I don’t know if this makes any sense... what I‘m trying to say is: Especially in the past, women often where literally kept away from anything, that was considered „too technical“ (perhaps because our brains might easily be blown by technical questions, perhaps to preserve the jobs of people, who have the technical know how, and can help us, when we don’t know what to do next, and which we are forced to call then), we were told to „push the yellow button on the machine“ if we want to do this or that, or „never to push the red button on the machine“, but nobody told us, why, and what will happen if we do so. I have a different serger than yours, and after watching this great video, I feel pretty confident, to use ANY serger, because I now know, what I‘m actually doing. Hi there. You’ve hit the nail on the head. I think you’ll definitely understand how to use machines (and any model / brand) more if you know how the individual components work rather than just what to call them. People struggle with overlockers because of scaremongers who have tried, tested and failed. I went to school in the 80s. I dared to take an electronics class, as the only girl. The class was addressed to as „good morning, MEN!“. Whenever I had a question, the teacher answered it by „can anyone answer THIS question?“, always making me feeling like the most stupid person in the world. Of course, my male classmates tried to answer my questions, but as they were pupils themselves, it often lead to blahblahblah. Today I think, the teacher was probably scared of me. And not a very good teacher anyway. Although he gave me a hard time, I kind of pity him. He might have chosen to teach an electronics class, because he probably was scared of girls, in general. And there came a 14-year-old female intruder into his pretty electronics world. Might have been something he couldn’t deal with. But he achieved to make me scared to ask technical questions. For over twenty years. So glad I‘ve overcome this, thanks to people like you!

I love your videos. Your really do explain things really well. I've just bought my first ITY knit fabric and have cut it out today. I plan on sewing it tomorrow and I'd like to do most of it on the overlocker. I'll try a test first using the information you have given and see what happens. Thank you so much.

@@AbisDen Well I've made a bit of a mess. I'm still learning to sew and I think I took too big a step. Stretch fabric is hard to work with. I'm glad I didn't pay a lot for it but I'm pleased I had a go. I'll definitely not give up though.

If you use 0.7 or lower and sew on elastic band, that would be a bit more visually obvious that the piece was being stretched while being sewed

This is so useful Abi, I bought a an overlock 734Ds as my first machine (thought all sewing machines were the same😅) but I am happy your videos are helping me a lot to understand my brother, just waiting for my regular sewing machine to arrive and we'll start my first project and switch between the two...Just one question what feeds for very stretchy materials?
