Good job , remember doing diff stripdowns and rebuilds on scanias in gb when I was 17 in my apprenticeship . Over 40 years ago . All nighters because they had to be ready for the afternoon of the next day . The crown wheels were riveted back then . Drilled out and cold pressed reset on manual press , good old days . Keep up the excellent work .

Not sure if you ever need a stronger way to shorten the stock axles but I learned a way from a guy named Leon , In So. California , who built V-8 powered Trikes and narrowed his own rearends and shortened his own axles . He cut the axle off just before the bearing , Bored a hole through the flange part , turned the axle to fit the bore , he kept the axle as thick as possible . He would push the axle through the hole , He drilled and put a pin through the hub and axle parts and welded the Pin , and ends to the hole , also welded the axle where it met the flange . He built quite a few of them and I never heard of any axles breaking and they had big block engines in most with the widest pro street type hot rod rear tires he could get . He was a great fabricator and his trikes were awesome . I did some axles this way for a project and it really was simple and I felt good about the integrity of it , not for a race car but for a cool project it's fine . Just thought I'd share that . New subscriber here , love what you do !

Only wanting to mention something, not trying to dis you or anything, when putting in such heavy bolts in diff, maybe start a few of the threads on each bolt before tightening any down, it will save some threads in the long run, and save looking for holes in the cheaper made products, just a good habit to be in. Cheap tip for pulling bearings of axles and two piece drive shafts. Find a set of the thickest plate you can shove under the bearing and then weld them together with some thick walled box tubing as close to the bearing as you can but with just a very small gap at the bearing (you should be able to just be able to spin the metal by hand). then just place it on top of the bridge deck of the press and have some fun lol. Have had to do this a number of times on Chevy (Holden for the non US crowds) center support bearings on their two piece drive shafts, as a normal bearing press plate doesn't grab the inner race of the bearing. I have blown a few up pressing on what ever I can get to hold lol. New sub and can't wait to see this thing moving.

Great build! Cant wait for part 4. I really hope that the welded shafts hold. There was a video on youtube where some guy built a mini tractor, much in the same way as you did with the shortened rear end, only thing was that he cut the axles shorter, tacked the spline ends to the now shorter axle and used it as a template to cut splines directly on the axle using an angle grinder, worked like a charm. I hope you got the idea how he did it. Big thanks for your videos from your Latvian neighbour!

I think you should check the setup on the Ring gear. It is a very critical area, that needs to be correct, anytime you install new, used, or miss matched parts. Thanks for sharing.👍👍👍👍
@nicholasbrown81787 ай бұрын
You can't use un-matched ring and pinion gears, they have to be a matched set. They are lapped together so there is no bind or too much slap. .005" - .007" gap on a matched set.

Mate , I learnt this from a bloke that used to make the generators for hydro power plants , my late uncle , although I couldn,t stand him ! ; watts = volts x amps , watts divided by volts = amps , watts divided by amps = volts , volts x amps = watts . Volts shock you , Amperes kill you , Watts then cremate you , so be extra careful when handling electricity , if in doubt ALWAYS consult a qualified electrician , go carefully mate . I wrote this out recently for a friend .

Trade qualified machinist here..You right, as long as the earth is attached to the actual job you don't pose any risk to a manual lathe, just turn off any digital X&Y readouts, however CNC is a big no no for welding in the machine...oiling the bed and slideways is ok for tacking....better to oil and cover with leather for more serious welding....also remember to oil/cover the chuck as this is where i have seen people get themselves into trouble with spatter getting into the openings for the jaws and sticking to either the scroll plate on a 3 jaw or the screw threads on a 4 jaws....and i can tell you from experience that its not fun to deal with....last chuck i had to try recover from this happening i fixed....with an order number for a new chuck.

Pretty neat job somebody else suggested building a sand blaster. My thought was. A parts cleaner instead of grabbing the wife’s tooth brushes LOL As a kid growing up and working with my Father he was always a believer in Thread Locker and i used to think it was useless untill i grew up and realized its what. The professionals use on Rae cars going several hundreds a mile per hour on a race track and that it does work now I’m a big advocate on using it for many projects. In my case i suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury in my 40s and in order to walk i must use a leg brace on my left leg i found out over time the. Braces. Were having nuts and bolts working loose And ive eliminated that problem by using a few drops of thread locker on them. When i reinstall the found screws into the hardware ive even suggested that to the company that fabricates these highly custom and expensive devices for the handicapped clients as that can be very dangerous to someone if the device fails on them unexpectingly in my case i was able to detect the problem before applying my body weight. To the device avoiding. Any injuries To myself thankfully here in the United States the stuff is very reasonably priced and ive found a small amount lasts me a very long time as i am only a hobbyist at Automobile and machine work and assembly ive found myself helping freinds that have disabilities and have had similar. Problems with nuts and bolts on their assistive tools like wheel chairs and Walkers i also use a electric mobility scooter that ive applied the thread locker onto many of its fasteners for safety. As well

Part of why I hate drum brakes is that they occasionally fuse to the hub, or a wheel rusts to the hub or I cannot get in to back the shoes in and I can’t pull the drum off. On one truck I had the puller on it with the outer diameter of the drum bowed out 1” from where it was supposed to be and still wouldn’t come off of the hub,,,, so I just left it on and after about 20 minutes BANG!!!! it popped off.

Maybe it's just me I don't know but it would be nice if you left them up a little longer.
