Donn, this was an absolute fantastic journey, and I'm so glad I came along for the ride. Hey Donn, awesome build, well done. I've got a fair bit of experience driving amphibious tracked vehicles in the army, and they all have one thing in common, tracks are very bad for water propulsion. I would suggest you maybe add a small battery outboard engine on the back, it will give you way better propulsion than the tracks ever will.

Excellent idea, a pair of yoked electric trolling motors would duplicate somewhat the propulsion and steering on the WWII U.S. Weasel. He could run them off of his battery and it would fine. For mud and bogs it is top notch as is...

Great build 😉👍 A tip for going in water, put some big mudflaps on the back of the tracks like they have on the "Hägglunds" from Sweden! They keep the water from flood the topside of the tracks so you get more propulsion. 😉👍 Awesome to follow your channel. Looking forward to your next project! 😁

Every single negative comment here comes from a person that has never done one tenth of one tenth of a percent of the fabrication that you did in this build. The KZbin platform is a blessing and a curse. Idiots that have to hire someone to come into their house to change the batteries in their smoke detectors can critique you for how you built a one of a kind amphibious vehicle. You have built something that is amazing. Not perfect, but amazing. I congratulate you. I wish I could’ve been there to celebrate with you and your family. 🍻

I’m building a articulating dump truck and it’s funny how many people seem to doubt the 13hp engine I’m installing on it, they keep saying it’s not going to work, it’s the same people that say it would not float. Good work my friend and thanks for bringing us along, I definitely know how much more work it is to not only build something this big but to also video and edit it, most people will never know how much time and work it takes. My friend, You might make the cleats on the track a bit taller. That way it may work better in the water, …… The only problem then is that it will also dig the lawn up more.

i think the problem is that the return path of the track is under water too. that kinda counteracts with the part of the track thats supposed to be under water.
@dockmasterted
@dockmasterted 4 жыл бұрын
@@inevitablecraftslab I agree with you there, and so what I would also do was make the fenders also to cover the tracks in front and on the sides lower in the water to act as a break water. that would off set the top of the track bringing water forward. Because it would hit the side, and front of the reverse side of both the inside fender, and the inside of the front fender ... forcing the water down and backwards onto the track bottom going backward to propel the craft forward even better. .... don't you think so?

So cool you made it to the end. I’ve been following your build since episode 7 when I stumbled upon your channel. It’s very inspiring to see what the common man can do in his shed (equipped with lathe. And a few other toys.😉)

I understand what you meant by "common man". But Donn is very far from the common man. He is an extraordinary man! And his vision is a complete success. He will figure out the water propulsion thing. Even the best designs need time to test and perfect the vision.

Bolt on some fins to the wheel lugs! They won't be in the way of the tracks, and should give you more propulsion. Fantastic job on this machine!

Wonderful fabrication job! You obviously have a very strong engineering mind. Once you get more time to break it in, you will have a list of what-ifs and I should-haves. Don't worry about hose because they will fix them selves. Glad it floats! If you start hearing that exhaust tone in you sleep, consider angling the exhaust away from you. A couple of used valve springs from the donor car could be starting point for a simple suspension seat. Please consider a back brace for that roll bar. I would hate for the world to loose such a talented person if that bar collapses.
