One thing to remember is that you don't have to differentiate for every hour and every day of your class. You should differentiate when you see an opportunity that can help your students. A good example of this is learning stations. The students all use similar materials on the same topic. Some students work alone, others work in groups. Some work with the teacher. Of course there needs to be a pre-assessment to determine which stations match each kid, but it's a great way for the teacher to put everyone on tasks involving critical thinking, collaboration, etc... I find the concept extremely overwhelming but if you only have one group of kids to teach and one curriculum to get through... Might be worth working it in when you can.

Differentiation is NICE, but it is a LUXURY. Time is a luxury. If a teacher teaches a lot of classess and the number of classes are a lot, and given extra school tasks. There will be no time to prepare the differentiation. If a school demands a differentiation a lot in everyday of the class, and all assignments, and tests, then the school should consider how many hours or how packed the teacher's schedule is. Reducing the task > teacher will have more time > can create more differentiation or upgrade the slides quality.

This is very well structured, you just made it look so easy. So basically, the teachers' role is to ensure that every learner is actively engaged in the learning process through different types of learning activities and assessments?

What you are saying is very good theoretically but very difficult to apply in the everyday school. How can I do all that for one class! If you could offer examples, I will be happy.

How is Differentiated Curriculum different from UDL? I just feel like they blend together. Could you please help me see the differences?

Audrey, I think Universal Design for Learning is the combination of differentiated instruction and assessments. When I hear the word "instruction", I think about how we teach.

Schools curriculum does not allow such perfect and good teaching instructions to take place asnteachers in schools sre mostly busy and fully occupied by lots of markings and other extra currucular activities in most schools.

Differentiation lowers expectations. Education Myths

Remember that "Learning Styles" are a popular widespread myth. It is considered to be common sense, but no. Differentiating instruction and the varied delivery of the content is important, and there are different types of learning domains (affective, cognitive, and psychomotor), but the key to engagement and active learning is motivation and multiple sensory imput. Again, more work for the teacher. I couldn't imagine doing this with 30-35 students. I teach 9 SVE students the four core subjects and I'm thoroughly overwhelmed. Then there is state and district mandates to be ESOL and Reading Endorsed none of which increases your 40k salary. I'm looki g into putting my Mpa. to work. This is way too much and takes up too much of my personal time.

I'd agree...nowadays..teaching is not as rewarding as it's used to be..how can we cater to so many different needs at the same time... and it can be chaos..in addition, the slow performing kids will slow down the pace of the class..and you'd lose time and might not get to all of the lesson.

I can totally relate, I handle 6 classes and 4 different subjects and differentiated instructions are so difficult to implement. I think I'm gonna die early for being a teacher haha. But it's rewarding to see them learn. I teach senior high schoolers and around 80 percent have difficulty in reading and comprehension, teaching is indeed a very tasking profession.

good luck in differentiating instructions in a pre-calculus class.

I understand that it can include things such as providing more or less support to understand the same content. So in maths, some students might be able to comprehend things without needing much scaffolding while others might benefit from using diagrams and others might need more concrete manipulables to step through the process before being able to work more abstractly. Another example, Some students might need the steps to follow printed out on a sheet, while others can follow what you did on the board.
