I have interviews coming up for PGCE and one of the questions I'm anticipating is about how to engage different abilities of pupils! This was super helpful, thank you :)

For Teachers I LOVE your videos so much they’re so helpful! In my PGCE year, I have just been in year 3 and absolutely loved it- tricky behaviour class but was definitely a learning curve and fully enjoyed it. For my next placement I’m in a mixed YR, Y1 Y2 class which is slightly nerve wracking as I’ve only ever had experience teaching one year group at a time. Also, we are now planning from scratch all of our own lessons so I will need to really know the pupils! I love the idea of LTHC tasks and think this will play an important role in my planning, as well as what you suggested regarding child autonomy in picking their own activities for the lesson. Do you have a have any others tips for someone starting this type of placement in a small school? Thanks so much!

Hello! How is your placement going? I hope the planning expectations have reduced somewhat, or that your confidence has grown. I have some useful videos ready to upload soon that may help with your placement. Have a great 2019!

In regards to what you said about the visual learners in the classroom, how would a new teacher of a class who hasn’t been with the children before know who the visual learners are? Is there a quick assessment that can be done to identify who are more kinaesthetic, more visual and more auditory etc

Thanks for this video! Also, could you please do videos for teaching tips such as subject knowledge and pedagogy for different year groups please? I really would like one for Y4 as I am starting placement in that year group next month.

Hi there I thank you very much for your video. I am not a teacher yet but can you tell me what kind of initials do you use for children whose first language is not English?
@ForTeachersChannel
@ForTeachersChannel 5 жыл бұрын
Do you mean what we might call them? Sometimes EAL - English as an additional language - or ESL - English as a second language. I think there are other acronyms too! Is this what you were hoping for or am I on the wrong track with this answer? Thanks for the video support too!

@@ForTeachersChannel so sorry, typo! What resources do you display that makes it easy for EAL or foreign speaking children to understand what the teacher is teaching?
@ForTeachersChannel

twinkl have some resources in multiple languages. I generally just translate with the Chinese teacher at the moment though. If you want to ask the parents to help with key words, I’m sure they’d be happy to share their knowledge! Especially if it will help their child to succeed in the classroom. Where do you teach?

@@ForTeachersChannel thank you for getting back to me I don't teach but have worked with in education as a support staff for a while mainly in secondary but have had some experience within primary and wondered how they dealt with lesson planning for children whose first language is not English- at the moment it's predominantly Spanish and polish speaking children that I have come across and I wondered how you got around that.

I love the idea of differentiation. I feel like we are not there yet in Poland... We want to group students from the earliest age: better reading group, lower reading group, intermediate maths group, lower level maths group... I feel like once you are in that "lower maths group" hardly any child ever gets out of it.. It's stigmatising in my opinion. Of course it is easier for teachers but are teachers there for students or students for teachers? I feel like we often confuse that unfortunately :( What I hate the most is pretending that giving funny names to the groups will not make students feel worse or better - even Y1 students are able to realise that these are nothing else than better and worse groups - no matter what name you will give them...

I completely agree with you. I remember being in ‘saturn’ group for maths and being very aware of Saturn being the ‘low’ group. Shame really because I was really good at shape, space & measure.. I just struggled with calculation and theory! But what does Poland do well? There must be something that each country can share. I have friends who teach here from Poland and I feel as though they’re very knowledgable about education ☺️

@@ForTeachersChannel We have some very good teachers, well educated etc, however the system kind of kills that. That's why there is a huge need for good teachers in Poland now - good teachers try other things than teaching at school. I did not even plan to look for a job in public school to be fair.

Hi! I have a question! Where do we find info on the students who have special needs or accommodations? In the United States these students have IEP or 504's! Is there something similar in the United Kingdom?
