So hunt for the black sand. I tie a nice strong ring magnet to a piece of 1/4" cord and drag it through promising looking areas. If I find a lot lf mags, I know heavies concentrate there. Find an area, then spot all around it to see where the higiher concentrations are.

your little clean up sluice works quite well . those small ribs seem to be the answer . Some one told me if you pan your concentrate in the contents of PBRs you will see more gold color

Lots of thick black sand there! Amazing how some areas have so much and others have so little even within the same watercourse and general area. At least with the VDR mat you will get almost every speck. Can definitely see why prospectors called it "gold dust". The snack time segments made me hungry too.
