Alcohol and cigarettes addiction actually destroyed my life. I could remember several years ago after divorce with my wife which brought me into my disastrous journey on Alcohol and cigarettes. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Much respect to mother nature the great magic shrooms.

I stopped drinking alcohol on aug 11 2023. I already noticed differences in energy and noticing how my body feels in different situations and environments. It's interesting. I used to be a social drinker. And from time to time I really went for it. But the aftermath of being hung over and feeling my body that way made me realize I should do something about the drinking before it might get worse.. I used to love it and also look forward to it. But now I'm much more into having experiences in a true to myself kind of way. It's ok to say no to alcohol. And it's ok to just go home when the party is lit. It's hard at some times but you need the boring and awkward situations to learn from I guess.. Just wanted to tell this story so others might be inspired. Have great day

Genetics play a huge role in how your body handles alcohol. My uncle has been an alcoholic for 40 years. He drinks at least a 12 pack of beer a day on average. I've NEVER seen him not drunk and he starts first thing in the morning. He's 70 and still going. He has never had cancer or any other disease so far. Many women care a lot about their looks. Maybe if you talked her into taking a few pictures of her face before , and after like just 2 weeks of zero drinking, would make her want to quit alcohol. Most ugly swelling and redness disappears just after ~10 days of abstinence..
@mellymell332 жыл бұрын
@maciej guzek we've tried that about 5 years ago. Didn't work. Her body is now so addicted, she'd get extremely sick without it. She'd need medical supervision to withdraw. A pain she won't sign up for. She's in counseling so that's a good thing. But when I say alcohol is winning in her life, I mean it's seriously overtaken her. I hate alcohol and everything it stands for.
@maciejguzek34422 жыл бұрын
@@mellymell33 Thanks for answering. Did you try disulfiram? Disulfiram is active ingredient: in my country (Eastern Europe, we are experts in alcoholism;) it functions under trade name 'esperal' (like from 'esperanza' = Latin for hope). I had it injected (inserted) in the side of my buttock many years ago, and it made me totally stop drinking for like 2 months, which did make a great positive overall change in my further life (although I remained an occasional superheavy drinker). The patient is told that any amount of alcohol can have disastrous health consequences for 6 months (of course I tried much earlier -and didn't experience any consequences). IMO this remedy is quite convenient because all it requires is a day or two of strong resolve (like a moment of 'hitting a bottom' and genuinely wanting to stop drinking), and once the insertion is done, you are genuinely afraid to drink (unless you are suicidal..but people in first days of complete sobriety often develop some kind of euphoria, not depression!) . Most 'experts' say disulfiram is not efficient, because according to experts it is a superficial remedy and what is necessary is deep psychological change - but I disagree from my own experience. It can help a lot. Probably not 'totally', but very significantly. All the best to your sister and to yourself.

Something not mentioned, which I think contributes to problems with alcohol, is that alcohol is so strongly associated with good times. We open champagne to celebrate; toast the bride & groom; drink to ones health; and it is readily available at almost every game, concert, party, social event... Also alcohol is glorified in the arts. So anyone lacking in certain areas sees a drink as a solution. I used to drink too much, now I rarely imbibe. I'm indifferent as to what people do to themselves to get through the day, just keep any harm you are doing to yourself.

Yeah, but alcohol, specifically ethylene, is the only resort for people who lack pleasure and happiness because it is a pleasure-inducing substance. Once it is absorbed in the body, your hypothalamus releases large quantities of dopamine, which is a neurohormone that is very satisfying and pleasure-inducing for yourself. If you are depressed, I recommend ethylene to compensate your lacking (only if you do not care about having great health). I recommend also nicotine, or maybe the more dangerous illegal drugs.

One of My best friends is an alchoholic. The first time I saw him go through a binge, I knew there was something different about him. He drank like his life depended on it, like vodka was water. I’ve never seen someone go from fine to completely out of control so quickly. It was crazy. He didn’t have a bad upbringing or any trauma, but he did have alcoholism in his family line. I’ve known other alcoholics and addicts who had mental disorders they were trying to medicate, but his case was so clearly biological in my view. When he’s sober he’s one of the most decent, intelligent, level headed, and competent people I know. But he takes one drink and completely falls apart. There’s no ramp up, or period where he can get away with it. It’s a beer, then a handle of vodka in a period of hours. He’s in recovery now, but he’s been going through cycles for decades now.

That’s a very tough thing to go through for both the alcoholic and for the friend (you). I’ve been both. I wish I had friends from that era, but also didn’t because I always felt like a ball and chain & every time I came around I would just ruin things, so I intentionally and purposely distance myself from them. I hope all works out for you and appreciate you sticking with your best friend. Many blessings 🤍🙏🏼🪽

Very informative and easy to digest video! I am an Indian and decades ago, in my region, drinking was culturally frowned upon and seen as a bad habit. Vast majority were teetotaller or light drinkers. But now, among youth, drinking begins at schools and colleges (mostly secretive) and becomes almost unavoidable as people start working in the companies. This shift has been very regrettable as there is a visibly declining trend in general public health of the youth.

Upper caste women were without written rules banned from drinking wine not even in female only groups in closed chambers, but their husbands were emotionally forced as masculinity to go to 'Women dancers brothel' and drink glass after glass, enjoy muse dance and probably even spend night with the woman they choose as a one night slave , and this sinful infidelity and alcoholism was glorified as 'Real Brave Man ' in Indian local histories too While lower caste women and men both were given access to drink local coconut wines, not at all cos of gender equality mindset lol, but cos 'Lower caste women like nomadic dancer groups' were by societal heirarchies forced into sex slavery n muse artistry and forced to sell themselves to upper caste married men, hence could drink along with the upper class man who demands her For some reasons , good kings of the era like Maharana pratap, Shivaji maharaj had to legally prohibit liquors in their ruling states to prevent irresponsibility

My stepfather died a couple of years ago of alcohol-related liver disease and a host of other serious illnesses all connected to his lifelong heavy drinking and smoking. Even though he was seriously unwell, we all expected him to make it out of hospital but then he suddenly went downhill and went into intensive care where he died a couple of days later. I was there near the end and it was traumatic and deeply upsetting to watch. He was in great pain and was so afraid. It was not a pleasant death and he had only just turned 62. It was tragic and I think about him every day and whenever I think of how his life ended I am so, so sad, and I BEG anyone who maybe has a relative or a friend with an alcohol dependency, please do everything you can to persuade that person to seek professional help. Alcohol is a killer and what it does to your body over time is absolutely awful. Everyone thinks they are immune and most addicts are in denial. Often, what is really needed most of all is therapy to deal with the underlying childhood trauma which so often leads a person to turn to drink as a way to escape the emotional pain.

Alcohol is _only_ bad for people in excess. Small amounts of alcohol are not harmful In fact, alcohol is produced in tiny amounts by intestinal bacteria. Dose makes the poison. Also, two people of equal weight may react to alcohol differently based on percentage of muscle. More muscle mass means more water, which means lower blood alcohol concentration even if they drink the same amount. Since males typically have more muscle mass than women, the alcohol will be more diluted. Adipose (fat) mass doesn't have the same effect. Again, dose makes the poison. Have a great day.

Also people who drink just for recreation and in small quantity can do so without worry because our bodies can handle that much quantity. Always be incredibly wary of the advice to eat food before drinking alcohol. The rationale is that you'll reach a lower BAC. Obvious fact: People who drink for fun are drinking with the GOAL of hitting a particular state of drunkenness or buzzed vibe. All you've done by consuming food before alcohol, is increase the TOTAL amount of alcohol you need to consume to reach such a state, hence reducing overall health!
@jaffacalling532 жыл бұрын
Oh will you shut up, eating before drinking is to slow the rate of absorption and prevent the alcohol from hitting you as hard. If you're drinking to get as drunk as possible then you probably shouldn't be drinking in the first place.

@@jaffacalling53 Quite the contrary, if you're not drinking to get buzzed or drunk then why even drink at all? It is a fact that alcohol is unhealthy and a poison. Everyone agrees with this. No matter how buzzed/drunk you want to get, eating food does in fact make it last longer (so it's not always a bad idea) but it does have the downside I mentioned above where it requires more to get to the same level.

If it were possible to have 0.0% alcoholic drinks that tasted exactly the same as its alcoholic counterparts, it would definitely take the world by storm. Just look at the rise of alcohol free beers at the moment. Of course, people sometimes still drink to het inebriated, but most people I know would rather not be affected by alcohol if they drink 2 or 3 glasses of wine during dinner.

I wonder what mechanism causes males and females to have this difference in enzyme production and activity. My anecdotal experience would suggest that it's hormonally controlled rather than genetic... But it can't be that simple
@p4nd4b01 Жыл бұрын
But the difference is hormonal. Actually, the female is a basic form of a human, the introduction of Y chromosome (quite a small one) with sensitivity to certain hormones leads to a male pattern of development. Some animals (not mammals though, coz womb is too complex) can change their sex. Those animals have external gestation - eggs, spores (Clown fish for example).

If you are light weight then gain muscle weight not fat weight, you know not every fat is the same alcohol for example is never stored in liver like other fats, nor can it be used by brain so the brain gets intoxicated and it is stored all over the body even in forearms too.

As someone who was in the Red Cross once, had dabbling with health stuff & always interested in it, I've always thought of how ridiculous it is that people are consuming chemicals that aren't meant for digestion. People need to lay that harmful shit off. Medical usage is a different story, but far as recreational use goes, it's unnecessary.
@therealspaghetti2082 жыл бұрын
Well, our bodies produce alcohol naturally (not our bodies but the yeasts inside), so it’s not like our bodies are completely unprepared for it
@itsallhappenedbefore19082 жыл бұрын
Recreational use can be a form of medical use. Many of these substances provide therapeutic effects for people who may have no access to other treatments. I know people who probably would have killed themselves if they didn't have certain drugs to bring them some form of peace and different perspective, or give them the comfortability to open up. Now of course it can be a slippery slope, but they can help people to get by until they find other options to cope and recover. Additionally, I find it so strange how people categorize "harmful chemicals", usually ignoring the detrimental physical and mental effects of caffeine, sugar, artificial coloring, etc. Not to say you are in fact, but it seemed those were excluded based on your wording.

Near the end of the videos you listed long term consequences of drinking alcohol regularly. But is there any problem with drinking it very moderately? Like, only ever at social events. In a way that's not regular and abusive, essentially. Other than the risk of falling into addiction, of course, is there any permanent harm to the body from these rare uses?

Thanks for the great video. One question though, if anyone is aware can let me know: I was once a drinker(started drinking from oct 2016 and stopped 6months ago)...used to drink every weekend...but now i have stopped drinking for last 6months. Will this regenerate the loss done to my body?? Or its a permanent damage? In case stopping drinking does regenerate..how slow is it? Just to mention i dont yet have any problems in my body regarding alcohol intake. I just stopped it 6months ago cz want a healthier life.
@prabhurk19532 жыл бұрын
It's based on your age, lifestyle and food intake. Damage done may be severe but as long as you fix your lifestyle with regular exercise, proper food, sufficient water with enough sleep, you can expect your body to get fully recovered. Considering no or less symptoms, you don't have to worry a lot! BUT NEVER TAKE THAT SLOW POISON AGAIN!

Dose makes the poison. Having a single normal sized glass of wine, even every day, is not considered harmful (for most people). If you drank a liter or more of vodka every day for those years, you would most likely have some scaring of your liver, which is permanent, but if not excessive isn't that bad. Getting fall-down drunk every weekend is also harmful (binge drinking) and, in some cases, is more damaging (over time) than being constantly under the influence (a liter of vodka a day will do that). Everything will get better. Things like kidney function will normalize 2 weeks after stopping. Liver function can take 1-2 months. A note: The majority of harm from alcohol isn't from direct alcohol toxicity. Very heavy drinkers often have deficiencies in B vitamins, magnesium, potassium, and others due to poor absorption, excessive excretion, and poor diet. Wernicke's encephalopathy and Korsakoff syndrome (brain injuries) can be reversed if caught early, but can cause permanent disability. You are unlikely to have this, but if you do, most people will have great improvement within a year. Let me know if I wasn't clear about anything. Good luck on your journey and have a great day.

Alcohol is good one year then not the next, like bread same as well. I think if you drink in moderation much like anything in life odds are you will, be fine, but to do things in excess or an addiction good luck on your health. To me this is all about personal choice, alcohol been with us a long time it was a way preserve crops as well celebrate with. Alcohol is in many ancient scripture’s throughout the world… I like my wine as much as my Kentucky or Tennessee whiskey! TO EACH HIS OWN!
@mr.j9972 жыл бұрын
Regarding the last thing when the video said "regular drinker" I assume it meant someone who drinks every day (not to the extent that this person gets drunk but still drinking). I mean I drink a bit every weekend. Not so much that I get drunk but one or two glasses of wine combined with drinner and some beers afterwards with friends will not harm much (I am a male). It has been like this for years and I don't experience any addiction or side-effetcs from alcohol at all. All people will be affected differently. Still of course drinking is not healthy, but it is way better than smoking if consumed responsibly.

Well, do a blood test for liver function and see if that's really the case.
@PriyaDharshini-sq2mb2 жыл бұрын
So just a doubt. If women have less alcohol dehydrogenase and men have more, then the metabolism of alcohol will be obviously less in women, which in turn means that those toxic products won't be formed much in women than in men. So does it mean that men have a tendency to get affected more by alcohol consumption than women?? Just a curious science student.
@chinmayneelkod9312 жыл бұрын
Alcohol itself is poisonous but less compared to the reaction of adh and alcohol.... But also remember break down of alcohol is important or else it'll form its coting inside liver walls which inturn can lead it to different diseases
@aquagaming26632 жыл бұрын
Actually no, it is true that ADH breakdown produce harmful substances but here we are taking about amount of ADH in 'stomach'. In males some of the alcohol is broken down in stomach itself and those harmful products got mixed with HCL (one of the strongest acid) which probably destroy them but even if they aren't destroyed they won't be absorbed by body because those epithelial cells are selectively permeable. However in females the only breakdown that takes place is in liver which not only increase the harm to liver but also to other parts due to more absorption. I hope your doubt is somewhat cleared now.

Im thankful to not be addicted. I would drink every once in a while because i was bored, and while it did make me feel giddy, i never really craved it. I never over did drinking until i went to a club with friends and ended up like blacking out a bit and recollecting only the times id “wake up” and puke multiple times in a row. For like two weeks afterwards i felt very sensitive whenever id eat afterwards. My stomach would always feel upset. The thought of drinking made me recall the drink i kept tasting which was gross. It felt sick to think about. I havent even wanted to drink at all since then. Its been around 5 months. Think that experience have me a bit of an aversion - and i previously used to drink like once a month. Sometimes twice a month.
