Took a few lessons from Jack to get out of the pentatonic blues rut... the most helpful thing is he told me to learn the dominant 7 arpeggios all over the neck... then the minor 7 arpeggios... then the major 7... and play them over their respective chords. Lightbulb moment for me. Jack is super knowledgeable.

Fantastic playing and lesson. Toward the end of the video I was struck by the realization that Jack SPEAKS slowly, chooses his words very carefully and means everything that he says. Exactly like he plays the guitar.

Well that was spectacular and made total sense. A7b9 just happens to contain a diminished 7 chord with 4 roots and resolves nicely to D7. So many options for phrasing.

Jack Ruch has the best explanation how to use diminished chord/ arpeggio (whatever you want to call it) for the 1-4 change. combine that with Josh smith "playing through the chord change" comment you finally know what that means. You finally answered what Robin Ford was going about 5 years ago.

Some of the most beautiful phrasing I have heard in a long time. That is just the most soothing Use of notr choice Well mixing the major and minor Pentatonic beautifully as well as some diminished lines, Not to mention some modal notes and just an incredible knowledge of how harmony and melody are all contained in the underlying chords. Youndo not have to be particularly complicated with the voicings some dominant seventh chords, 9th chords and those Stax records Steve cropper thirds with a few passing Chords reminiscent of stormy Monday blues. The scales that he switches between seamlessly and beautifully as well his ability to Play leading chord tones without making it obvious because his use of blues licks that you think you are used to hearing, Because in blues every three or four note mini phrases that make up the big phrases or things that everyone does are there, but the masters link them together with much more finesse and the ability to relax and not play over the music and Separate as if they are jamming on top of something. He plays to really mesh with the song. He never loses sight of his role as an integral part of the whole as opposed to a hired gun slinger bluesman. They hired guns play blistering runs with guys like Stevie Ray Vaughan. What makes his stuff fun is not because Of very creative phrases but because of his sense of rhythm. Tone and the size of the strings he uses Plus his physical strength on the instrument It’s so palpable it’s like a Washington a blues sports car.. Been playing for 35 years and recently I’ve come to appreciate the guys that make blues sound elegant and gorgeous as opposed to simply badass and something that inspires you to drink beer and party. This is one of the songs that also it is obviously a blues to any musician, To your average music aficionado I think they would consider this more of a jazz blues not because it’s avant-garde with complex Melody lines and bebop scales and so forth but because it moves with some jazz progressions thrown in like the 6-2-5

They jogged out some deep and detailed explanations, stuff that tends to get glossed over in videos by guys who play first and teach as a fill-in. Thanks! I use 2 or 3 Canon EOS R cameras depending on the shoot with the high end 24-70 RF lenses. However I plan on upgrading to the more cinema style cameras soon. I use a sennheiser shotgun and lav for the vocal audio blend the two and then process it in post.
