17:49 -- fantastic advice. Playing for the song, and not for the guitar. -- After all, playing great music with the guitar always sounds better than playing great guitar during a song. Love the collaboration video with you and Jack Ruch. He asked great questions, and you had great answers. Looking forward to the next collaboration video.

Sometimes those harmony lines take me back to "Rainy Night in Georgia"...so good. Danny Gatton was such a big influence on so many, and probably never realized it - doesn't sound like he was ever happy with the biz side so kept his head under the hood of a hot rod much of the time. Thanks Guthrie - you've really got a natural knack for teaching that most players don't have.

Robben Ford likes to focus on the "flavor notes" vs those full chords with a 5th and another octave root. Leaves space to "fill it up" (Joe Pass-ism) as you change to the V chord or wherever....

What I find is that trying to put each note in my vocabulary to develop muscle memory, I practice the fingering of each note in The chord scale. But then to be able to leave out the sixth using muscle memory 🤯.

You are a nimble guitarist. Not just your fingers or your timing or your touch. But your mind is sharp. Thinking through the note choice and the chord changes and constantly anticipating and reacting… fast on your feet is mental nimbleness. I’m jealous.

My mind is blown! I’ve been looking for a channel like this for ages, with cats who can really play, talk about the nuts and bolts of the harmony and progressions they’re using. I love the way you guys talk about the ear. I feel vindicated by the last thing you said at the very end of the video. Sometimes the V chord needs to be looked at as the I cord and vice versa! Anyway, you cats have your harmony down so well that you could hang with Charlie Parker. And that’s the way music should be. Subscribed!
