@@XjunkieNL Well, because it is an affluent 45-65 year old crowd they love it but have no clue what I'm playing! No matter though. I love having the freedom to go from the Crusaders to Can (moonshake) if I want. As soon as l can get a more liberal crowd I'll be able to drop more of your recommendations. El Chicano, Crusaders and even "Demon Fuzz" by Afreaka already go over very well though!

Sounds as a very nice venue. Perfect age group to feed some seventies funk nuggets. Great to have so much freedom, to play what fits the moment best. If it was more close by, I would visit it for sure. Not many places that spin this kind of music. And all on vinyl :) /Paul

Southside Movement - Seen the record but have never heard it. Mansion is totally new to me. It's sounding really good. Great High Life sound. I agree with everything you said about Willie Hutch.... absolutely and totally underrated artist... not spoken about enough. I've shown a few of his records in the past. Pierre Dutour... amazing. I am going to search for all volumes. Great video Paul - TONE

Free Funk, that was not that bad. I had just recently seen that Foxy Brown album but they wanted too much for it. You really had some incredible funky music Paul, these were top notch. The African album was being reissued you said. I will have to check if it can be found in the US. You are the funkmeister of the VC. Great job, your humble funk brother Steve

@@XjunkieNL Hey Paul, I received the album, the music and presentation is excellent but the mastering is awful. This can not be from the original tapes, the sound is very low, I have other original records by this artist and it's a major difference in sound. It's still a enjoyable record but I would much rather have an original pressing.
@XjunkieNL

Sorry to hear that Frank. Is it the latest reissue you got? Can't understand why they do it this way. I read it was remastered. It takes so much away from enjoying the music. Mine is a repress from 1975, and it has sounds fantastic. Now I feel bad showing it, without giving a warning the reissue sounds mediocre. Thanks for letting me know. /Paul

@@XjunkieNL No worries, I thought you had the newest reissue on Diggers Factory records from 2021, that’s the one I have. You must have the Fiesta records 1975. I will most likely re-sell mine on Discogs, it’s hard to get this one here in the states, the new reissue I have is also made in France. It’s a shame because the presentation is very nice.

What, James Last again, wasn't it one of your old videos that got me looking for his Voodoo Party album 😂 seems like he put out about 30 LP's in 1969 alone so I guess there are bound to be some funky ones hidden in his catalogue 😉 Never heard of Odean Pope but was listening to some Manu Dibango recently, don't have that one by him...yes for some reason you don't really think of him first when you think about African music...amazing how much funky soul music came out in the 70's, so many groups and albums out there. Same for African music of course. Cheers!

Hey Doug! Hahah, yes, James Last again. Have you found a copy of Voodoo Party? I came across two in the cheap bins, thought of you, but they were less than VG. By the way, I did find James Last doing reggea. It was just too cheesy. Manu Dibango should get more crediit. I think he really influenced funk music early seventies. Or at least I read Kool And The Gang tried to copy his music just before they got big. And Kool And The Gang influenced many others :) Have a great Sunday. Cheers. /Paul

@@XjunkieNL I never did find Voodoo Party but I did finally thrift a copy of Well Kept Secret. Not before all funky James Last albums disappeared from the bins for a long time after you showed Voodoo Party though. Typical ;-) Recently picked up the Real Gone Music reissue of Kool And The Gang's debut, very funky indeed...

Funny you mention their debut. This is the sound of Kool And The Gang before Soul Makossa. Compare it for example with Jungle Boogie (released right after Soul Makossa, and probably the title is a link also). The music has a different vibe. I like both by the way :)

Hello Paul, I would grab that Dutour in a second. Could it perhaps be sorted to a library genre, the second sample just reminded me of that kind of stuff. But as you said, its very inventive being made so early.

do i spot a most recent WARP records release in the back or am i completely mistaken? just from a technical point of view - the music in the needle drops almost drowns your voice, at least partially. probably you might have to turn the volume on your turntable down a few points to achieve an improved result which leaves enough room for your voice yet still gets the music across properly.
@XjunkieNL

Sharp eye. The Nala Sinephro is indeed released on WARP. A surprisingly great album. Thanks for the feedback on the sound. Need to work a bit on the sound balance. In part it has to do with my setup. Left channel is recorded, and the right channel is my feedback. Cheers. Stay funky. /Paul

Hey, interesting focus on James Last. I also avoided him through all 70s - 80s.. as a cuckoo doing poor secondary versions of others work. Until someone mentioned his album "Well Kept Secrets" from 1975. Also called "James Last in Los Angeles", produced with some prominent American funk/fusion artists. It isn't a great album for me, but equally good to most similar releases at the time, as this "Hair" also sounds like, perhaps even better. Also I never knew before recently, that he made soundtracks for movies
@XjunkieNL
@XjunkieNL 2 жыл бұрын
Hey hey. There are some nuggets in the James Last catalogue. Well Kept Secrets is great example. Another one, and maybe the best kept secret, is Voodoo Party. It's from the early seventies, and they must have been smoking funny stuff in the studio. If you don't know it, it's fun to search for it. Overhere it sometimes turns up in the cheap bins. Hahah, and as an artist that is turning out at least 10 albums each year, they can't be gold every time ;) All the best. Cheers. /Paul

Hi paul as usual a nice batch of funky records and what about those clothes 😎… how easy is it to find funk in the Netherlands or do you buy online ? .. Hey Rob. Nice to see you dropping by. Only the seventies can combine those colours and suits. No wonder bell bottom trousers are back :) It is surprising how many funk records are to be found in the wild. Especially as, as far as I know, there wasn't a big funk scene in the seventies. It helps that on record fairs there are often many international sellers. In my home town only children are allowed to sell on Kingsday. So I have to be lucky when some dad's collection is being sold ;) All the best. Cheers. /Paul
