I am glad that you enjoyed Too Many Records (and Matt)! They are just a few blocks from my house, and every time I stop in there, there's new stuff. Loads of events, and they have sidewalk sales with amazing deals, if you don't need something mint at time too. Awesome place, and so happy they're in my neighborhood!

So cool you got to hook up with Kimbo and Mazzy! I will keep Tomorrow Records in mind if I ever hit Portland. And yes, Kimbo is hardcore and I am not surprised that he was leading you all.

It’s been a long time coming to finally meet up with Mazzy, Paul. Glad Kimbo could make it down as well. Great guys, as you know. They speak highly of you as well. One of these days you’ll have to find an excuse to come to the Carolinas. 😎 Hope all is well in Texas ✌🏻

Fantastic meetup with some awesome people 👏🏻 that Mission of Burma find is awesome! I’m picky when it comes to the cut corners, too. Some albums here I’m going to have to check out. Love all the picture. Love the concert clips at the end. So much fun!!!

Been spinning the Mission of Burma today. Sounds like it’s being played for the first time. I’ll live with writing on a record before cut corners, Emma. I don’t know what it is! 😂. Wish I had some more footage to share in this video, but with Mazzy doing so much recording - you just don’t even think about it. Lol

Haven't been there since 2010 but both times I've visited Portland I've found many many great records I still have today. The Mission of Burma is an all-time essential for me, stoked to see you grab that. Never been to Tomorrow or Little Axe. Guess you didn't make it to Mississippi? Love that shop. True you never see that Earth Wind and Fire. I think I've seen it once. Great finds...you should be happy with that Czukay. Weird but friggin cool

The Mission of Burma was a no-brainer, Dom. Stoked to find one in immaculate condition. My first trip out to Portland in 2011, I went to Mississippi Records. It was a cool store, but yeah, I’d benefit more from visiting it now. I spun the Holger Czukay last night and it was great. Weird in all the best ways. Had some groove in places too. Little Axe and Tomorrow were my favorites, but every store had something to offer. One of these days I’ll make it up to New York.

Portland is my favorite city to go record shopping. Plenty of stores, reasonable prices and no sales tax. I’m always surprised what I find there. My first time in Music Millennium, I got lost. Ended up in that loft before I found the rock section in the other room. And you’re right, you need the time to dig in that place. Never been to Little Axe. I’ll have to check it out next time I’m there. It’s one of favorite things to do. Travel somewhere and buy records. Portland, Albuquerque Philadelphia, Barcelona, Marseilles and Rome have made the list so far. So glad you had a good time with Mazzy and Kimbo.

I thought the prices were really fair. Didn’t mention that in the video because it’s all relative. The first time I went out to Portland, I went to Everyday Music, Mississippi Records, and 2nd Avenue Records. Everyday was gigantic. Too much to go through, really. Loved the other two stores. That was 13 years ago, though. I also love checking out stores in other towns. Even if they’re small towns. Really fantastic meeting up with Mazzy and Kimbo. One of these days I’ll make out to California. Cheers, Eric! ✌🏻

If Little Axe was the first store we went to, I probably would have busted my budget immediately. Left a lot of great stuff in the bins (and on the wall) there. Also would’ve been helpful to send out a few album photos to part of my VC-knowledge trust. 😄 Had a great time, though. That’s all that really matters. Thanks! ✌🏻

GM Jon. To see an original of Marque Moon I would have gotten all sweaty as I started to justify why I should spend that much mi SY for an OG. I am pretty sure I would totally justify it in my mind. You saw original African albums that were all beat up? That sounds par for the course. I have never seen albums in nice condition. Cool you went to Too Many Records. That was a lot of stores, wow. Not sure my wallet could have handed that day. You guys must have had to hustle to hit so many stores.

The sealed Marquee Moon was $250. Yes, you would’ve justified it. We know you all too well, Steve. 😄 We met up in the morning and hung out til dinner time. It was a full workday, and we had a great time. We’ll never get Mazzy to the Carolinas, so maybe we’ll all just meet up in Denver instead. Hope you’re doing well, friend. ✌🏻

I know Mainstream for their 70’s Psych and Garage. I don’t see Mission of Burma records. The LA Kaleidoscope is a favorite band. There were three Kaleidoscope bands in the 60’s. I met Matt from Too Many Records in the RSD line at Amoeba Records and he is very nice.

Mainstream had eras, I believe. Started as a jazz label and returned to it in the 70s with some soul/funk mixed in. But, yeah, Big Brother and Amboy Dukes is all I know from the rock - I think. Matt was a really nice guy. Glad we stopped by his store.

Mission Of Burma were great 👍. That's When I Reach For My Revolver one of the best songs of the 80's. Conny Plank Produced one of my favorite albums of the 70's Systems Of Romance by Ultravox ( When John Foxx was the driving force ) I saw a show at the Whiskey that turned out to be his last as 6 months later they showed up with Midge Ure ..

Didn’t realize Plank produced Ultravox. That’s cool. I’ve honestly never looked past his German production credits. I’ll have to research that one day. Bravos take two in a row in Minneapolis. Wild one last night. Somehow playing winning baseball with a newly constructed roster. Lol

And to think we live less than 60 minutes from each other and just never bothered. Side Trips - definitely a good album. Ugh - everyone is sitting on the lawn except the one couple in the middle. The poor people sitting right behind them.
@TheDigitalGramophone
@TheDigitalGramophone 5 ай бұрын
@@dixielandfarm We had quite the discussion about that couple. I do believe in a majority decision/read the room kind of thing about concerts. If the overwhelming majority of people are sitting then I sit. That couple stood and danced the entire show. There were words exchanged. However, I feel like if they’re that committed the people behind them can move. There was space. My sister and her friend were up dancing a decent amount. But we didn’t have anybody complain or tell us to sit down when we were standing. I get much more upset about people that talk through the entire show instead of listening. Much greater offense to me.

What a great video - what a great trip! So much record store heat I was sweating and panting. I blame Holger. That Tomorrow records layout looked primo. Also like that even if Portland's soul and R&B game was a bit soft, you found some nuggets. You're in there trying!! And the Live music finale - seriously, what could be better than great music and a balmy outdoor concert? Hahaha The live action Mazzy sign-off 🤌 what a great record forwarding friend too. So good this, remembering back to your red rocks video and thinking that the travel and vinyl videos are just the right fit for you. Can we crowdfund that or something?

I didn’t record any bin flipping, but if I had, I still wouldn’t have shared it. Nothing aggravates me more than people in the comments saying “you passed on that?!?!” 😂 I do wish I had more footage from the day and trip overall. Mazzy is always recording, so that kind of deterred me from doing it. No good excuses for not having more recorded of the family, though. I do have one or two clips that I’ll use as openers down the line. Cheers, Dean ✌🏻

Asking big money for rare records with cut corners is silly. That would never happen in baseball or vintage cars. What's wrong with us thst they they think that's ok here. Looks like a fun trip. Decemberist cool.

As a Portland Native of 30 years, you guys missed it. It was 10 times better 10 years ago. Selection is dry and prices are ridiculous in 2024. I worked at Music Millennium for 4 years in the mid 90s. It’s gone to shit.
@TheDigitalGramophone

I think it’s safe to say record prices and availability were 10 times better 10 years ago everywhere, dude. This is nothing isolated to Portland. I first shopped for records in Portland in 2011. The prices were comparable to what I found at home. I’d say as far as that goes, nothing has changed.
