I owned a 1978 Trans Am paid $5000 for it in 1980 from a guy who lived in Woodland Hills, CA and the car looked like new it was black also I loved that car wish I never sold it but I did two years later also owned a 1976 Trans Am. I worked for GM for many years as a master technician so I was always driving cars like this and way more fun than the cars today. I started driving Corvettes later on and owned C4, C5, & C6 models. The years go by fast hope they do a good job fixing this Trans Am. Thanks for the Video, Mike

Cool firebird. When I was a kid in the 90’s one of our neighbors’ teenage sons had one of these in ok survivor condition. It’s weird to think that it would have been less than 20 years old at the time and yet it was considered an “old car” even then. Dig the Tapatio shirt. We can’t live without it in my household, just restocked last night. While on the topic of hot sauce... I’ve found that the plastic bottles that Sriracha (rooster sauce) comes in make a perfect gas squirt bottle for filling carb bowls when starting old engines.

Having grown up around my mothers 1978 Firebird that was roached, recked and rusted into the ground by 1983... When the time @7:54 rolled around I paused and said a prayer for the new owner. "Dear Lord, Please let it not have "hurst hatches"."

BlueSkyScholar interestingly, I ordered my ( * 77 BANDIT, EXCEPT I had VE,LOUR interior,& window tint Delete etc):**77 SPECIAL ED/ Trans Am / HURST HATches IN OCT 76( received in March 77):: the Hurst leaked and dribbles inside body, and passenger continuously, had one Hatch stolen( replaced with another Hurst, under protest from Insurance Carrier) Anyways, even with Ziebart and care: badly rotted out in many places after ten plus years heavy use.. etc.

Much respect in the professional process you all took on loading and unloading that bird. I appreciate how careful you were, (even though it was rough) you took extra care with it. Also, seeing that Monte Carlo made my leg and side hurt (I was involved in a hit and run in a maroon 97). I'm not a Monte fan, just ended up with it. I was lucky to live..... 4 broke ribs, fractured right socket, intestine and colon ruptured, and a reconstruction of my left ankle 09/04/2020 is when it happened and happened to be my 10th anniversary with my wife). Much respect

@@chaosdemonwolf1 Weren't most of the car that became cultural icons from movies over rated? Before the opening scene on Maxwell Smart, they used a Karman Ghia, before changing it to an Alpha Romeo. Also a 1981 Turbo T/A with T- Tops that have the changing lights for gears on the hood. She was always in a garage and has only 17.000 miles on her.To this day she is still waiting to go out for a run with me. I picked her up for 2 grand with an extra 6.6 engine block to boot. A few other toys I found lately are a 1968 Chevy Malibu & a 1972 Plymouth Roadrunner & a 1997 Corvette. I love American Muscle Cars!!!

From what I've seen in the video that appears to be a 78 Black and Gold Special Edition. The gold painted grills and the gold pontiac emblem on the nose piece would be consisted with that. Those appear to be Hurst ttops. To be sure you could look for a double H logo in the corner of the ttop glass. If it says American than it's an aftermarket ttop. Like somone else said Hurst tops were early in the 78 production year because most 78s have the Fisher tops. I'd highly recommend ordering the PHS (pontiac historical services) report. That could very well be one of the most desirable Bandit cars. And yes even though Smoky and the Bandit was a 77, that's still referred to as a Bandit car if it's a black and gold SE. Nice find. Easily a $75k car properly restored.
