I bought an old 955H to dig out a 15 ft tall embankment. I ran into Murphy's Law along the way. Fixed stuff, made noise, made a mess, ect. Please be sure to like and subscribe! Thanks!

Hey PossumKing, I really like your work ethic and how you don't get so worked up when old machines get a little fussy. I really like that you don't give up. I've got some older stuff, Komatsu D57, A JD 410D and a JD tractor. There are actually "some" days that I can get on one without jumper cables and work all day without adding 5 gallons of hydraulic oil or fixing a broken something or another. They still work much better than a shovel with a wooden handle. BTW, I first started watching your channel because of that ole CAT. That was the last machine that my father purchased brand new shortly before he passed away. I love the sound of that thing so you better finish your garage and get working on that lower end. Maybe it's just a cracked piston. (I busted one of mine being a little too liberal with starting fluid.)

Yeah. She is just sitting back in the graveyard right now. Idk what I'm doing with it. Local scrap yard might buy it to push scrap. It would be great for that. Undercarriage is about done pushing dirt

I love that old 955, my dad bought a new H and I was 14 and the first to operate it, power shift pedal steer.

There are bolts with allen heads that fasten the drive of the starter to the starter motor. They can be removed and the drive/mount can be rotated and clocked to match the original starter.

I just bought a 955H.$10Grand I have to clear the top of a hill to build a house in Northern Nevada (State of Jefferson east). Now I've got to lean all of this stuff about the 955H, as well as the case 580 Super D I bought a month ago. $18.G Hope I don't have to use it to pull the radiator. Thanks for the useful insights on the ins and outs of the 955H. Think I'll skip the skid steer. Spent enough already. You should fix that door on your Case

I replayed the engine running part 5 times at least lol! Definitely looks like you are gonna have to peal the onion back on that one. I'm gonna take a guess based on every bit of info you gave and the sound. Since it started to suddenly consume oil, smoke anddddd "knock" I'm gonna say something ring/rodbearing/wristpin related. I feel like if the turbo started sucking oil or you had a bad valve guide seal it still wouldn't explain the lower end knock. Sounded like cylinder #1 or #2. Looking forward to the results!
@PossumKing4 жыл бұрын
I really should have got more of the problem solving on film. The problem with it being bearing related is that it isn't steady. The is no real rythem to the knock. Also if I play with the throttle I have had it clear up and stop knocking for a few seconds, and the white smoke really cleared up. I gonna go play with the fuel system before I start tearing the turbo off. Bolts like to break on old exhaust parts so I'll start with the easier stuff. Could just be an injector.
@CodyFazio4 жыл бұрын
Ya that's a good place to start, do the ole crack one injector at a time and see if you narrow problem to one cylinder/injector

Thinking about getting a hydraulic crimp tool for battery cables. When they break you can cut just the connector and are not losing any wire length then.

@@PossumKing I have one of those handheld hydraulic crimpers and while they are really effective, I have still gotten corrosion in the connector anywhere the battery is exposed to water when connected.

@@MitzvosGolem1 I am in south Florida. Have soldered cables for my dozer, skid steers, diesel pickup and wood chipper. Have cranked some engines over and over and never had solder melt. The stock battery terminals are lead and I have seen them melt from corrosion. Remember as long as you have no voltage drop across a connection heat cannot build up and melt anything.

@@PossumKing I had it delivered last week and lost a cylinder on my uphill run. Looks like it was just a fuel injector though. The guy who sold it it real good with engines and would not feel right if he didn't at least try to have sold me a good running machine. We started it up and he loosed the fuel line till the 3rd cylinder did not respond. Bingo. Then we tested for compression. But to undo the fuel injector he broke his half inch drive breaker bar. Today he will show up with better tools. For a carpenter like myself, your videos are a good source of know how. I'm not even a decent shade tree mechanic. So I got a lot already from watching your process of finding solutions. I'll be doing a lot of this while building this house.

@@allanmain5666 that's good to hear, I'm taking the same approach as we speak. New fuel nozzles (got all 4 for $60 on eBay). Then my primer failed and fuel line fittings are taunting me. Do you have a filter element in the fuel bowl under the injection pump? I can't find a filter anywhere on my machine. (Damn farmers)

@@PossumKing I should be able to learn that soon here. I already have the head on the ground and about to pull the oil pan off today. I'm at a good spot to look. That's right. It seized up when I started it up and tried to drive it. It seemed ok at first, and even seemed to improve eventually. But when I tried to move it it stopped. My dad pulled the plug and antifreeze came out. at least a quart. He poured water in the radiator and more came out the oil pan. After removing the head I was able to turn the engine. #3 piston is stationary at the top while the other pistons look look good. I suspect #3 fuel injector stopped and that's why the piston failed. Maybe the fuel was to old. Hoping that with new piston all will be well. haven't seen sleeve. The machine is on someones property on the side of the road, so it must be moved. And to get it running I'm sure you would agree is the best way forward. I'm going to watch this vid again as it's a good view of the engine. Good for a carpenter like me to educate myself.
@PossumKing4 жыл бұрын
That really sucks! I don't believe injector failure caused that cylinder to wipe out. The good thing is if you need a new piston you can just get a kit and re-sleeve it too but they are wet sleeves. As for the piston not moving, should like a broken connecting rod, or wrist pin. Hopefully when it broke it didn't bend any valves. I would be pissed if I paid that much for that machine just to have the motor go. Of course you probably have all rust free stuff out there which makes a big difference of machine value.
