Great Video Katie. Absolutely love Polk a dot with that purple. It looks very scenic like mountain fog in misty rain. I have to do this some day. Thanks Katie for sharing your great adventure!

Cave City Kentucky taught me that stalactites hold on tight to the ceiling and a stalagmite Might grow so much it touches the ceiling 😉 cool way to remember

You never cease to amaze... I heard you saying you were taking something back to your dad. When I rockhound and like something I put it in my backpack really quick and then my mother and I look at them when I get home. She really loves it. We love the video Kate... Those were really amazing blues and the polka dot is incredible. Thanks so much for sharing

There is a small piece of striped yellow & red/brown rock that looks like tiger eye at 2:12 mark. Looks like it would make a beautiful pendant.. The Thunder Eggs & other finds make me want to go there! Some of those have such wonderful polka-dots.. Thank the woman who showed the Dots in the sunlight.. The one at 15:32 mark is Stunning. So many colors, dots, & bands..

Very cool agates! We just went to the first night dig of this year in the thunder egg bed. First time at the Polka Dot Mine. We had a blast and brought home several large half’s with stalactites in them.

It would be cool if each person took a gorgeous specimen (they aren't going to keep) and gift it to a high school or college. I bet more people would be interested in geology if they knew how amazing rocks can look.

Hey this is Matt from the Polka Dot mine. So no Obsidian in the Thunderegg deposit unfortunately. That black stone is Perlite.

Hey Matt you work at the polkadot mine right? That is without a doubt Obsidian, thundereggs are formed in a lava flow just like Obsidian is. Pretty basic stuff here man.

Love this spot. Have been there many times. Cut the eggs as opposed to cracking open if possible. They are far more gorgeous when sliced :D However, to say the smaller eggs aren't as filled with the "good stuff" is, unfortunately, not true even a little. And I mean this in the most respectful way. I find that the smaller eggs at Canyon Rim tend to be solidly filled, and some of them are even quite mossy/dendritic. I have a couple of cut examples at home!
