Digging Stumps With Small Backhoe Or Excavator
As I dig out stumps with my Kubota KX033-4 mini excavator, I offer some tips and tricks to using small machines.

Thanks Chris. Easier than any of the stumps I've dug.

They were easier than a lot of the other ones I have dug too. I've had some that were so big that once I broke the stump loose from the ground I could barely drag it out of the hole lol

Hi Chris, enjoyed your video, as always. I did get a few pointers from you. I bought a Mongo ripper a few months ago for my KX 033-4 from Jordan McClain. I'm not talented enough to film myself working with the machine/implements. Today I ripped up two hefty tree stumps. I use to just use my 12" bucket and usually had to dig a good sized hole. With the ripper attachment the hole was a whole lot smaller, and I had both of them out and the hole filled in in 15 minutes.

It’s amazing at what a machine that size is capable of doing.

As with any equipment it helps to have experience, and the best way I've found is watching and learning from KZbin videos. Your really good with the excavator and farn equipment as well Chris. The earlier you get started the better. My oldest brothers grandson started on the mini excavator when he was 8 years old, and surprisingly pretty good. I'm 60 and have never operated one. You my friend make it look easy.

Experience definitely helps, but practice does too. I have been running equipment for over 20 years, and still figure out new things lol Thanks Dean 🙂

Great tips. I have had my kx040-4 for a couple weeks and using a 12" bucket for stumps. I have been successful but after watching you dig farther away from the stumps it looks a lot easier on the machine. I've definitely been digging too close.

Might be a bit late to the party, but pushing the bucket down and curling up we call 'dompen' over here, use it to pull concrete footings, you can even use the push out of the stick to create even more leverage

It is amazing what minis can do! They out work mine, but I have more reach and lift higher..
@dehavenfamilyfarm
@dehavenfamilyfarm 2 жыл бұрын
It sure is! I wish I had a little more reach with mine. Kubota does make this model with a hydraulic extanda hoe option, but there were none of those machines available at the time I bought this one or I would have bought one.

@@dehavenfamilyfarm I was looking for an excavator when I bought my loader. the excavators were priced really high around here at the time. so got the loader instead.
@dehavenfamilyfarm
@dehavenfamilyfarm 2 жыл бұрын
@@MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors I am not surprised- excavators in good condition hold their value pretty well. I still think the loader was a good, versatile choice for your use.

Oh yes right up my alley!!! Very informative video, although I may need some upclose presentation on exactly the best way...so if you would please, come on down and give me a demo on some stumps😂😂😂🤣🤣🤦🤦 Sorry had too! Very nice operation there sir, excellent point about the bucket and use of the curl😉😉 I would love to finally get another exacvator for the farm. We are replacing mine at the daily and the old will go on auction. Would give anything to be abke to purchase it. They are so very handy and compact...but plenty of strength!! Thank you for this video my friend, really enjoy!! You did very well sir!! Look fed to mkre Mr Chris!!

It sure would be fun to come down and help on your reclamation project 🙂 If I farmed full time, I would not be able to afford a machine like this. Doing work for customers pays for it, with a side bonus of being able to use it around the farm. What brand is the one you are getting at work?

@@dehavenfamilyfarm I totally understand that, those things aren't cheap!! But like you said, handy as a side note! We are exclusive Kubota, so a new KX080. We have all three sizes of minis, mine just tripped 5500 hours, runs like a sewing machine but it's time to replace it. I kinda dread it, cause mine has just enough slop to be very very smooth. It will be a learning curve to start over in a new 80🤦 Thank you Mr Chris for bringing us along, I truly like the business side of toyr work!!

You get a lot of work out of that machine Chris! I am looking at 30,000# machines for general farm clearing and drainage ditch work (like a komatsu 128, 228, or 138). I think I would like a blade. Any thoughts about a blade on a machine this size??
@dehavenfamilyfarm
@dehavenfamilyfarm 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I sure do! A 30k machine would do a lot of work in a hurry 🙂 From what I have seen, it is hard to find a blade on an older excavator that size- they seem to becoming more popular though because I see a lot of newer big machines with the blade on them.
