SMH disgusting greedy people. All a sample does is open up their catalogue again why they so butt hurt this many Years. Thank you for this brother all My comments on the madvillainy album. Kmd’s first albums was tough for us in the city during its first run. Not only The samples but the lyrical content was hard and clear for us (black folks in the nyc hood of that lyrical back pack time) especially in what we were dealing with socially in nyc and in the country. Anyway thank you.

Something to note that im sure MANY will have understood by now is the grave/gravestone double entendre with his name. "Dumile" sounding eerily like "Doom'll lay" being... doom'll lay 6 fit deep. On top of the rhyme scheme, he made his last name have a double entendre whil rhyming everything together.. there's a reason everyone loves Hip-Hop's most mad villain to date. R.I.P to the legend.

Also "unmarked or engraved" on his tombstone meaning he'll either die a success or unknown, going down with his body either being "unmarked or engraved" by his struggles or not going down without a fight. DOOM has the most dense lyricism you feel like you can analyse his tracks for hours.

Dumile is a name meaning “famous” or “well known” in isiZulu or other Nguni languages including isiNdebele of which I think his Zimbabwean father is. Dumile is also pronounced a little like his stage name, Doom-ee-leh. Dumile is also not a surname.

I’m case you didn’t know or if anyone didn’t know… after the album got shelved . Dumile got Depressed and was drinking everyday of his life until he Met MF GRIMM. A rhyme master at the time in Ny who was battling I believe and was good too. And he didn’t come up with the name himself . Both him and Grimm settled on Doom. Because of his history in Marvel Comics. Doom coming back as a villain not a hero when he came back with powers . And the title MF was given to him by Grimm wich stands for Mad Flows . He is not the only one with the title MF Mez etc etc other members as well. Doom flipped the name later on to Metal Fingers Doom on production notes henceforth metal fingers special blends the beat tapes. All in all someone picked up this man from the ground when he was down bad, real shit Doom was homeless, I never hear anybody talk about MF Grimm that’s sad cause they used to be best friends. And we’re beefing at the end kind of before he passed away. LLDoom🕊️. Big Ups to Jet Jaguar ( MF Grimm ) and the Monsta Island Csarz!

Just because black bastards was dropped does not mean it should be skipped. It’s a highly underrated album with some incredible songs DOOM (then zen love x) and subroc really stepping up their game. Some of the rhyming he’s famous for is heard on that project. Some of the tracks that would end up on doomsday were originally made back in that era so he was starting to come into his prime. Just making my normal comment about how good I think this channel is. Already recommended the video. On a personal note, I’m really happy to see you covering Doom. One of my absolute favorites on the mic and I always loved how he (or his producers) would mix in things like the Scooby Doo sample that I recognized from Saturday morning cartoons as a kid. You also commented that “he’s your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper” or some such, but I’d also point out that I think Doom was one of the more beloved rappers by lyricists in other genres. My first musical love is rock and I remember after he died there were a lot of rock songwriters I follow (I specifically remember Thom Yorke of Radiohead saying something about him; I know there were several others but I don’t want to name names if I’m not sure who it was) who praised his creativity and wordplay in tributes to him. I guess the ability to not only come up with a 9 syllable rhyme but have it flow with the beat and being on point for the overall subject of the song transcends genre? Second side note- I know you tend to go back in time with your song choices but there’s a great song “Belize” on the album Danger Mouse and Black Thought did that features a verse from Doom that I’d definitely be curious to see a breakdown about.

Apart from Stan Lee talking about how his characters are really him there's also the track The Hands of Doom which contains another scene sampled from Wild Style. In the scene the main character is confronted by a friend about how the character in his big graffiti piece is actually himself.

If you weren't hip to DOOM, you probably still heard his beats on some Wu-Tang members solo albums. Also, Operation Doomsday was only the beginning. Check Madvillainy and MM... Food.

Lowkey great album analysis I’ve been obsessing over DOOM’s earlier shit ever since I started listening and seeing someone talk about it this in depth about the character, the separation from the main industry, the purpose of the mask itself, niggas usually don’t go this deep but I’m glad you did all love bro

On Black Bastards you can hear Zev refer to himself as the villain on the track Sweet Premium Wine. Also on the 1994 track Checkmate with rapper Earthquake, he's almost MF DOOM by then, pay attention to the lyrics. Also, if you listen to the 12" version of Go With The Flow/Greenbacks from 1997, you can hear him rapping with that Zev Love X voice. It makes me wonder when those were recorded.

Thank you for pronouncing Subroc's first name properly, not that I would expect you to blunder on that. Too many times I've heard people just pathetically attempt to pronounce his name (and their last names) and some of the things they come up with make my head spin lol. Personally, the worst example I've seen was from that Michael McCrudden guy who does the "Before They Were Famous/Dead/Etc." videos. His pronunciation? DINGLES-WEE. I am not kidding, that's how he said it 😩

Incredible work!!! Well done and to the point. I go back to hip hop's very beginning and had the pleasure of seeing it go from the Saturday afternoon throw down in the park when none of us had a dime to the stages worldwide making millions. MF DOOM was one unique brother!!! Gone too soon like all of our musical greats. This video is a history lesson. Required viewing for all who love hip hop. The sad truth is he never received his props while alive.
