Great tip with the pipe! Very simple and easy way to remember the correct orientation and configuration of the seals.

good thorough show and talk through of a process that a lot of folks think is too intimidating to attempt themselves! i always hate taking the cessna style cylinders apart that you have to spin a retaining ring out of the cylinder to get the head gland out. another good informational vid in the can! awesome!

Thanks Frank, I'm sure that bringing a camera into the situation changes things. I've done a lot of this stuff but never tried filming it so I'm glad to see someone is ! Thanks for sharing and take care. 👍

Thanks. Got an 05 lb75 that both stabilizers started leaking this winter. How did both start leaking almost the same time. Unreal. Great job on the video. I think I will look into buying a spanner 🔧.

Never been tempted to do this myself, but it seems more doable now. Good clean video.

Have you ever had your auto level bucket linkage get stuck? I have an lb75b having this issue and have to wiggle it to roll my bucket back up. I oiled it good but still gives an issue every 5-10 loader uses.

at least you didn't have to put another machine on the pipe wrench to break the gland free. I ended up buying a nice pin spanner from OTC .

I just recently did this on my dozer angle cylinder. Couldn't find a pipe wrench that would open wide enough. Wound up ordering a gland wrench. It was some kind of tight. The tool I ordered worked great though.

How do you know when the gland seals need replacement?
@Digginok4 жыл бұрын
They start showing signs of being wet or the rod will stay oily. Seal material will degrade with time about as much as it does with use it seems.

Attempting my JohnDeere 310J bucket tilt cylinder in a couple weeks before snow season starts. Mobile mechanic wanted 1200-1500 bucks! I told him I can buy a brand new cylinder for 1200 bucks. He also said the seal kit was 350-500, I found them on line for anywhere from 37.00-47.00 and free shipping lol. I think he was trying to blow me off or make it really worth his while. Love your videos!!

The bucket cylinder on a Deere is a bit of a job to take off, bt that seems pretty steep. Thanks for watching!

I really appreciate your videos. I am disabled & kinda stuck now unable to work as I used to do (property building & landlord maintenance) but watching how you do things encourages me to attempt the same thing on my 455c backhoe - especially since I can't work now to pay for repairs. I might have to drag my two sons over & away from their wives for an afternoon but I think between their help and your videos I just might be able to 'supervise' my way to fixing my swing pins & a few other things. There's a question for ya: how many equipment operators farm out all the maintenance on their machines? I can run an excavator until my legs literally go numb (I broke my back) and enjoy doing it... but shied away from getting a track machine because if I lost a track there is no way in hell I could ever get it back on.
@Digginok3 жыл бұрын
I have known both kinds of excavation companies , some do their own work some farm it out, some do parts but not everything. Working on heavy equipment is not always easy or safe. Gotta take on what you can, but remember your limitations. Thanks for watching, with some good help and supervision I’m sure you will do well.

I took a large pair of channel locks and drill holes in the jaws inserted roll pins and they work fairly well for a spanner wrench Bailey Hydraulics have any thing you need for rebuilding cyclinder’s

Hello operator, I love your videos, especially maintenance, exchanging piston repairs and bushing. I watch repeatedly because I really want to learn and I am thinking of doing this on the LB 90, which I work for because it is a way to learn I will spend money but I don't care because I want to learn again thank you very much and I look forward to your maintenance videos mainly exchange piston repairs. my name is Jorge and i am from Brazil if my english is wrong i'm sorry i wrote on google translator.
@Digginok4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, email me with questions if you need to cunningham2442@gmail.com. The LB90 is what I had before the B95, the problem I had with it was they changed a lot of pistons and gland nuts on those backhoes. A good dealer will help a lot with that.

Great video! Glad I found this channel. We just bought a couple backhoes, more for winter plowing but want to use them for digging in the summer. We bought a 2003 JD 310SG and a 2008 JD 310J, the 310J is going to be the go to machine with its pilot controls its very easy to run.

The video came out good from where i'm watching at. I know how to do this stuff, but if I was filming i'd have to think about it more then I'd start making stupid mistakes "for the camera" . Those cylinders are a nice size to work with, everything on my TLB's big and heavy with 5" plus outer and 2"dia plus rods. By the time a guys fought getting the rusted tight pins out of the boom bosses where the grease only goes in the ram eyes , lifted the cylinder out rebuilt it. Then fought it back on especially if it's the one down inside the backhoe boom like the last one I have left to do it's a real work out doing it on my own. I hate when a customer brings one of those cylinders with the wire lock ring in. Usually they have tried farmer fixing it and broke the hook end off the wire trying to undo it the wrong way so they are a bugger to get apart. Thanks for sharing another shop adventure keeping the old girl up and running right. Take care.
