"It's a very bad idea to try to censor any kind of art on the basis of what we think people are gonna take away from it, because we need it all to be there if we want to understand it." Quotable

The thing with fanservice tho (or porn in general) is that you could make the argument that it should be something that is taught directly/researched. Not something that is hidden under the guise of "art" and thus sticks in your mind much longer than nessesary for you to realize "porn = bad" :/
@Alienrun5 жыл бұрын
okay so...I made this reply before watching the video. Digi touched on the education and context aspect of it, and even said "you might want to reject this idea" which made me feel a lot better about it. Still a very interesting subject to discuss tho.

I feel like not a lot of people talk about how not only is media and art a way of safely interacting with questionable subject matter but also the state of it being fiction is what makes it enjoyable in the first place. Like a lot of people think we consume media as some kind of simulacrum, it's a way of experiencing something we want to experience in real life but for whatever reason we can't or won't have the real life experience of it, and sometimes media is this, where you see something that you do wish would actually happen and media is a way to get a taste of it, but sometimes the state of being fiction is what makes something appealing in the first place. Most video games would be terrible if they actually happened, you do not enjoy Bloodborne because you secretly want to be slaughtering half-human beasts in some gothic eldritch nightmare-scape, if that is the reason you may have issues, but the distance from the subject matter is what transforms what is pretty close to what would be an objectively terrible situation to be in, into something you can actually derive joy from. The same thing goes for sexual topics as much as violent ones, you may find rape enjoyable in a fantasy context not because you secretly want to rape in real life and you are settling for a simulation of the real thing, but because the fictionalization of something can transform how we feel about it.
@susususu67784 жыл бұрын
Honestly, Bloodborne being real would be a total nightmare, it's unbelievable that such a game even exists.

People who complain about sexism in media and want to censor it usually remind me of the very same people who did the same thing for religious reasons. Like Digi said, they'd rather hide something that is already in people's minds. I think it's fair game, if all art is impressionable to people on a personal level, and the personal is political, than all art is propaganda.

Thank you for giving me insight into people who watch rape hentai. I hate it and I had really negative thoughts on people who watch rape hentai but you helped me realize that people can disassociate from creative content more than me. I no longer hate people who watch rape-themed porn.

The straw that broke the camel's back. Rather than sculpting media to cater to susceptible people, I would rather focus on prevention. For future susceptible people of whatever emotional(depression), physical(empty nose syndrome), or ideological(vengeful nihilism) ailment they may have, we could seek to understand underlying causes. I'm not sure if there's one right word or various, but brave, noble people can indulge in certain concepts without crumbling. We should nurture that fortitude.
