Here's my take on how to easily understand attributes for newer Digimon fans. Data: Has normal files data in digital world (imagine any data like documents or programs on computer) Vaccine: Has antivirus or debug program data(?) (Imagine a data that counteract the virus like antivirus etc) Virus: Has error or anomaly data which not necessarily harm the system. (For harmful file, imagine a file that infected by virus and malware. For not harmful file imagine a new program created by u but the antivirus database detects it as threat bc there's no info on it) Example is Guilmon who was created by Takato's drawing. It's not harmful but it is an anomaly and stays so even in Dukemon. . Digimon is a being that consists of data and digivolve through obtaining multiple data which could also be harmful. That's why when digivolve Digimon could be different attribute and appearance as the data obtained is according to the data obtained. For example usually the antagonist cannot digivolve because originally there's not much virus in the system, so they speed up the data/virus obtaining process through the creation of towers, crystal etc. If it's in ur computer u can imagine like a malware creating new files to spread more virus (shortcuts, exe files etc). Digivice also obtaining data rapidly, but blocks bad data.

@@prehistoricshrimp free, variable and unknown are different and a bit confusing bc no exact thing as such or at least i couldn't think of. These attributes are not the majority of the life forms on digital world n maybe explains why it's rare or supposedly not exist. But free could be something that dont interact w a system so it can't be affected by any program, variable might be some program that has admin permission or root access (to modify n alter files), and unknown could be something that is not from digital space. Digimon also have weird digital beings that's not explained what are their attributes like marching fishes n grani.

So basically How I understand the typing match up is: Data Attribute Digimon = Grass Type in Pokemon Virus Attribute = Fire Type in Pokemon Vaccine Attribute = Water Type in Pokemon If that comparison makes sense

For someone like me that watched the shows but never played any of the games, these videos are very informational and helpful. I always preferred Digimon over Pokémon, so your channel is great to learn all the things the shows don't go over in detail. Keep it up!

You forget about Unknown type, but I think I can figure it out. Unknown type refers to digimon whose attributes are unspecified. Also classified as " None type". Digimon that are classified with this attribute are specifically found formerly in digimon from the Xros Wars era (2010-2011/12) as levels, types, and attributes are unspecified. However, with the recent update in the Digimon Reference Book, these digimon are no longer unknown in regards to level, types, and attributes, as they are given specific ones instead.

As someone who grew up with Digimon and Pokemon, this was actually quite interesting. I knew of the Vaccine, Data and Virus types but didn't know they correlated with one another. In a way, this is much like the choice of Starter Pokemon being Grass, Fire and Water, each being strong against one and weak against the other. The Free typing seems to be comparable to Normal typing from Pokemon in that it has no real strengths or weaknesses.

yea but in Digimon there also nature types, Water > Fire > Grass > Water, Electric > Wind > Ground > Electric, and Light & Darkness that harm each others like hell.

I was glad when I found out about this. I understood that Angemon is a Champion level so strong that he rivals many Ultimates, but how he put up a decent fight against Piedmon and brought Vamdemon to his knees makes perfect sense.
