That's a really cool paint job! Nonetheless I would've covered the "X" on the DMX with some masking tape or repaint it using another colour just to both remember that it's indeed a DMX and to give the illusion of a "special edition" made by Bandai themselves. Best regards!

How thick is the background? Could you use a cool looking Digimon or Pokémon card if you cut it to the right size?

It's an LCD screen. It's literally supposed to be lit with a backlight. That's not how.. well... Anything works.
