But today, the discussion aims to go over my thoughts on future products for the Digimon card game, and first up it's starter deck. In some ways, when it comes to building cores, this is where a lot of my logic lies as well and if you're looking at trying to move bulk or donate it, there are ways to make it more effective to get more people into the game!

It feels like the new starter decks coming out are an in-between of the old starter decks and the advanced ones. I think those should still go forward, and keep advanced ones as something special, since there's so much that seems to go into them.

The newer starter decks definitely feel like a step up from old starters - even the Dragon of Courage and Wolf of Friendship. But I absolutely love the advanced ones and hope they keep the momentum going.

@@DIGI-PANDA true, but since Renamon is getting BT17 support, do you think they'd get support again soon? Personally I think Gammamon should. With all it's evolutions paths, it would be good to see a way to make it all consistent.

So far the advanced starter decks have leaned heavily into the Tamers cards - Beelzemon getting the first release and Terriermon getting the second. It just made sense at the time of writing the video. I don't disagree that Gammamon should get one. Frankly, I think out of the three characters from Ghost Game, Angoramon deserves much better support and a streamlined win condition because as it is right now it's kind of meh.

Nothing gets me hyped like a good starter deck. Im always down to buy a product if i can get a perfectly serviceable deck out of it for 30$ (2 copies), the new starters having reprints of trainings is just icing on the cake. I definitely think they're going in a better direction with starter product!

Videos like this make me want to open my own card shop someday, one of my favorite things about card games especially irl with paper play is helping out new players. Whenever someone new comes to my locals I give them what I call the noobie tax, generally letting them take whatever they want/think they'll need for what it is their trying to build out of my binder(assuming its not something crazy like a 50$ card).

Yeah. I agree with the Advanced Starter Decks are overall worth more for new and old players. I do hope they continue to make the Advanced Decks.

I absolutely don't think they should stop making regular starter decks just because they're not as good as the Advanced ones, but I do think it's weird that they sell two similar products where one is labeled as "the good one". Like there's nothing that stops them from making regular starters as good as Advanced decks other than cost. Speaking of cost, part of why I don't want regular starters to stop is because of cost; a lot of players will just spout "oh just buy two Advanced starter decks so you get a playset of all the cards", but that's _60 dollars_ you're asking a new player to drop on a game before they even know if they like it. Not only that, but _most_ cards in an Advanced starter are four-ofs, usually the only ones that are two-ofs are the key cards the deck is built around, but you could probably get those as singles. Part of the reason Advanced decks are so expensive is because they cram them full of so much _shit_ They put in stuff like sleeves, random promos, big chunky bric-a-brac that only serves to make the box bigger and more expensive. If you buy two Advanced decks, you have a _ton_ of waste, just a bunch of shit you're never gonna use just so you can get two copies of maybe six or eight different cards. That's not fucking worth spending another thirty dollars! When I bought Double Typhoon, I'm pretty sure I could get the singles I was missing on TCGPlayer for 15-20, leaving me more money to buy other cards to help improve the deck. I wonder if it would be worth it if the regular starter decks retained their budget 10 dollar price and became a sort of "trial deck" where it's built entirely around one specific keyword or mechanic. A lot of the regular starters in this game are one core Digimon line with a relatively coherent strategy, and then a second line that's just random whos and some assorted level 3-4 Digimon to fill out the ratios. What if they instead said "Okay, here's our next starter, it's a De-Digivolve deck. Your main line is entirely a line of Digimon that all have De-Digivolve X, and your second line are Digimon that might benefit from your opponent having low-level or sourceless Digimon. Doesn't have to be anything more complex than that, and building around a specific keyword does not guarantee a win condition beyond just hitting your opponent with big Digimon, so it's not like it's going to make them any more difficult to pilot than a basic starter, it just gives the player something to go on besides just "well I have the MetalGarurumon deck so do I just get more Gabumon and Garurumon stuff because they all do different stuff and I don't know which ones are good", but if your deck is built around a _mechanic_ instead and you put the face Digimon on the box later, it ensures that your new player at least has an idea of what they need to do and having a lot of examples of one specific mechanic really helps them learn that specific mechanic. Hey new player, do you like attacking your opponent's Digimon in one on one fights? Here's the Raid deck, it's all about Raid, check this out and learn how Raid works.

I actually like this concept too in which if you base the deck around a keyword with fitting searchers and top ends, it'd work! My beef primarily with the Dragon of Courage and Wolf of Friendship starters is that they still feel so.. hodge podge in nature? But I also definitely understand your concern in regard to the price point.

What lists would you do for green, black, and purple starters? I’m using your version of red, blue, and yellow from here to teach new players, but I’m unsure of what to do for the other colors. Beelzemon is too complicated and I don’t love ST15 and 16 for teaching

Starter decks for Rika and Rio? Bandai can't even give them good decks in general! (Doesn't stop me from trying to make them work though) I do like that idea for those two specifically though, because they fit the Start Deck theme: A specific mechanic-- Renamon cycling Option cards and Monodramon getting Tamer buffs.

New mechanic for cycling plug in option cards would be interesting. I think this will be an interesting balance if they can nail it. Personally, I really wish the BT17 Sakuyamon support cards came out in like BT11. Would've been a very interesting interaction in regards to decks like Mirage or Ulforce. Hilariously, even BT13 Burst Mode.

When it comes to building cores do you just include the cards you think would go in the deck and at how many you think would be played or do you always do play sets of the cards.

I typically do playsets of the cards just to give players the flexibility of building with what they want and have it available. Unless the card is limited do I typically only include one. Though at times I only include 2 or 3 if I only have enough of a card in a quantity that allows that.

Curious on this one. While true four eggs is the maximum number of copies of a card you can have (pending restrictions or bans), I think it does give a little build of design freedom in how the deck could operate. Unless you're looking more so at people buying starters and just cracking them open to play without reading the rules.

This is where I don't mind starter deck as long as they have higher utilization of cards rather than a hodge podge of cards with really only 1-2 seeing use. The price point of basic starter decks being about $12-15 and the advanced being $20-25 isn't terrible either. The advantage of advanced starters deck is that they typically provide reprints.

Honestly, I think it's a toss up. The chapters themselves are like your typical manga chapters where pacing can be good for some and really slow for others. I do think that in regards to matches they could flesh that out more because sometimes the information is lost between chapters.

I would still keep regular starter decks around. Yes, they lack some value, but they are STARTER DECKS and the others ARE NOT. They are meant as an easy introduction into the game. And also a cheap entry. The purpusefully bad cards also give new players an easy step towards deckbuilding. You buy the new St18/ and upgrade it with the EX7 cards. Advance decks provide a strong start out of the box if you want a dtrong deck for competition. But you need to learn to walk first before you run(keep in mind your target audience does not only include grown up adults)

The target audience is one thing that I always miss on. As a nostalgic Digimon fan, admittedly, sometimes I can't picture kids getting into the new series - mainly because at times it can get quite dark.

wargreymon from bt 12 is a reference to an opening in which wargreymon was having problems with metaltyranomon... wouldn't it be better if it was with the rival machindramon, because if wargreymon loses to metal tyranomon I will be firm in the opinion that it is one of the lv 6 weakest
