Playing on handheld rg35xx emulator at 3x speed and save states (to backtrack from dead ends) and it was still a slog. I say that as someone who loved this game as a kid, but cannot stand it now. Even the online guides missed several details and it's understandable why - no one, not even guide writers, would have the stamina to attempt 100% every inch of this game blind, especially when not on emulator.

@KamiSanzoАй бұрын
when something is good you don't need to change it, cocacola for example changed once for a little bit and the pushback was so huge they lost millions of dollars. If anything pokemon is bad nowadays because they started "trying more" while also lowering the overall quality of the products. "trying more" is a risk smart companies don't tend to try, a gaming example is valkyrie profile 1, 2 changed so much nobody liked it and it sold like crap, and 3 is now a generic (bad) dmc clone no old fan of the franchise likes

Oh boi, this game was soo much fun 20 years ago when I got my hands on it for my PS1, I played the original one, I had no idea there was the 2003 version, that being said I'm still upset I got stuck around lv 65 tamer where after beating a boss they wanted to me search something, but I had no idea where to go, I went EVERYWHERE, talked to every NPC, and nothing, gave up and tried to come back like 4 months later and I was lost, then tried to play it again on the PS1 emulator, this time just using the game shark because it came to the back of my mind all the back tracking, and then the save file got corrupted 💀, and well I'm 30 now and barely have any time to play games like this, amazing video, been binging your other videos about GTA and red dead.

This game was so exhausting. Beat it finally a bit ago on my third or fourth go at it. Basically had to emulate it eventually just for the speed up to get through the insane backtracking, lol It's fun to grind up your team and get some of the more rare digivolutions, but the padding, as mentioned in the video, really makes it hard to appreciate properly I really hope with all the re-releases of Next Order, there'll be another game like it and the original Digimon World soonish. That's a formula that works, imo. Just a charming game for Digimon fans and people who enjoy grinding a bit more to get somewhere in an RPG/Monster Collector.

Add a better game design. The techniques were almost useless for most, bad magic attacks, bad ultimate abilities (bad scaling, base attack does the same, if not better). Also the experience curve was so bad, especially for digivolutions. The formula used is very bad so it takes ages to level up evolutions.
@xDinomanx Жыл бұрын
Yeah I had Digimon World 2003 as a kid (Australia so meaning we had the PAL version). And yes, everything you said about the post game is true. You also get the opportunity to card battle much stronger opponents and have to hunt down extremely rare cards to win these battles. Asides from that, you have to have upgraded the ancient weapons in order to fight the gym leaders in the post game. Once you beat the Amaterasu gym leaders you can then fight Kurt, the World Champion (whose battle theme is really cool). Yeah, this game is fun but by god, the padding is horrendous. It does have improvements over the previous two games but there are things I feel would've been great. One thing I loved about Digimon World 2 is the ability to basically train up any digimon you could enocunter. In Digimon World 3/2003 you can only train certain digimon and get certain evolutions. Ironically enough, every rookie can get all evolution lines of all the other rookies. The music definately shines, it does also include some tracks from Digimon World 2 and Digital Card Battle as well. I do really love the environments you travel through but also the backgrounds whenever a battle occurs. Also the card battle minigame is addictive af. I definately agree with what you've said here. I recommend this game but only IF you have an emulator.

You know I baited myself so hard as a kid with Digimon World 3 even though I owned 1 & 2. I thought the battle gameplay would be more like something from super mario RPG with the art style that the overworld had, but it had that ugly, slow 3d animated aesthetic. Which is why I said I baited myself because the 1st and 2nd game had 3d for the battle/gameplay systems so why would the 3rd be any different.

This is genuinely one of my top games of all time. There's something about the jank and the backtracking and the world design that got in my head as a kid and that I just love nowadays. Yep, it's padded and grindy and all the rest, but somehow I just love it. Also 2003 (as opposed to 3) is better in that it has more of the postgame content and fixes a bunch of little things that actively make the game a bit better. Spot on review. This is a game that has so much of its potential ruined by the padding. But then again if you look at the game again and remove the padding you'll notice the game just isn't all that long to begin with, so it was padded out with making the player backtrack after basically every main story progression point. This is game that can only be finished nowadays with an emulator to speed things up and a guide on hand to avoid having to search every area for the NPC you need to talk to cause the game is so cryptic on how to progress. How anyone could have complete this in 2002 on their own is beyond me, as a kid I got as far as Zanbamon's roadblock somehow.

Man, I played for HOURS back when I was little. In recent years I went back to it and to be honest, I really hated the backtracking and the random encounters. It feels like Pokemon is the only game that has repel. Not to mention, no objective markers. I'm sorry, if I go back to a game that I haven't played for a long time, I want hints to refresh what I should do next. Not this game. You'll go back to it, and wonder, where should I go next? So you go anywhere, forced to fight and run from battles, trying to find out what to do next...

Digimon World Data Squad is pretty linear, focuses on a very basic/boring story with few side quests and its clearly designed for kids. BUT one of the things I really liked is how evolutions and unlocking evolutions work, you have "constellations" where the base digimon can evolve to a bunch of different digimons, and each of those have requirements that go from very basic to fighting boss battles, in a very real sense it's like an achievement system to unlock all the evolutions.

One of the things I love most about the Digimon series is that they are kind of a wild card. Both the games and the anime felt like experiments, many of which have their own glaring flaws and moments of brilliance. Almost diametrically opposed to Pokemon's often very focused and predictable method. Not better or worse, but an entirely different philosophy. With Digimon Survive coming soon as a tactics game, it still makes me smile that they are still tinkering with the formula years later.
