The music, world, concepts, and story were all pretty good to great. The gameplay was the issue. Backtracking, slow battles, and extreme grind held this back from honestly being a would be gem of the era.
@MrFoxYodotter
its unfair how pokemon has so much love when they try so little

Oh man I really hated those backtracking sections and no fast travel but I still really like this game. The card game was definitely addicting . Nice video man!

I regret not playing the third digimon world, the box art always drew me in on those weekends at blockbuster but i always ended up getting something else

I wish more RPG's like this would've implemented the Earthbound method of auto-defeating enemies that you vastly outclass. Anyway, great review.
@Minamoto1989
Only real problem of this game was the lack of fast travel

My only complaint is no impmon, gabumon and terriermon in game. Cherish this game though. Never beat it but currently soloing with Kumamon. Just started sepikmon mask and already have Grapleomon. I made it to gym three with guilmon solo run before but that fell apart after a long wipe to byakko gym.

Man, I played for HOURS back when I was little. In recent years I went back to it and to be honest, I really hated the backtracking and the random encounters. It feels like Pokemon is the only game that has repel. Not to mention, no objective markers. I'm sorry, if I go back to a game that I haven't played for a long time, I want hints to refresh what I should do next. Not this game. You'll go back to it, and wonder, where should I go next? So you go anywhere, forced to fight and run from battles, trying to find out what to do next...

You know I baited myself so hard as a kid with Digimon World 3 even though I owned 1 & 2. I thought the battle gameplay would be more like something from super mario RPG with the art style that the overworld had, but it had that ugly, slow 3d animated aesthetic. Which is why I said I baited myself because the 1st and 2nd game had 3d for the battle/gameplay systems so why would the 3rd be any different.

While gameplay is kinda similar to Digimon World 3, if because they're JRPGs, the Digimon World DS games (or Digimon Story games if you prefer) have a sort of different style to them for the combat. You'll probably like them if you found Digimon World 3 to be fine
@jonsmith430
omg, that title screen music. I was like 7 when i first played this game and i never got the chance to beat it because my disc was broken when left it on the floor but man i loved this game. I need to "find" it somewhere and finally beat it

Oh boi, this game was soo much fun 20 years ago when I got my hands on it for my PS1, I played the original one, I had no idea there was the 2003 version, that being said I'm still upset I got stuck around lv 65 tamer where after beating a boss they wanted to me search something, but I had no idea where to go, I went EVERYWHERE, talked to every NPC, and nothing, gave up and tried to come back like 4 months later and I was lost, then tried to play it again on the PS1 emulator, this time just using the game shark because it came to the back of my mind all the back tracking, and then the save file got corrupted 💀, and well I'm 30 now and barely have any time to play games like this, amazing video, been binging your other videos about GTA and red dead.
@detergenb29
this game is wild since one digimon can have all digivolutions, as long as you grind it to max digivolution level of every digivolutions you have.
@Proclaimfame
How many hours did you spend in the inn chilling with Terriermon?

This game was so exhausting. Beat it finally a bit ago on my third or fourth go at it.
@zeromaximus4261
I never beat this game when I was a kid because the amount of grinding required in late game was so ridiculous, at least from what I remember. That opening cinematic is awesome though.
@hyperspectralgaming
I played this game SO much as a kid and I totally forgot about it. No wonder I’m a glutton for RPGs nowadays. Definitely going to go back and play this, thanks dude
