I got the bino setup and love it. You have to make friends with it, but once you do, it is pretty darn good. You MUST have a good counterweight and I mean one that weights just as much as the binos. Quite heavy! Another thing that you MUST do is to super glue the threaded inserts for the dovetails down or they will come out and splat goes your NVG30 unless you are really lucky and just happen to be walking on your bed when it comes apart. I also tether them to my helmet for extra insurance. (note: screw on the dovetail and then gently pull (hard) on the dovetail until the inserts come out. Put a little bit of glue on each one and push it back together. If you can't pull it apart, then maybe they fixed that problem. Still tether it somehow just in case) I will say that when looking through two, the image seems to be slightly improved. But still, IR is needed when it gets very dark. This is where analog is much better. I use a hand held IR flashlight as it is way more convenient than the ones on the units (which are good). A little IR makes a huge difference. The key to being effective with these is making sure they are tweaked to your eyes/face/head and practice walking around with them until you are comfortable. One slightly irritating thing is the lag time. It isn't bad, but quick head movements will drive you crazy. Best to move your head slow or else close your eyes briefly while turning your head quickly. You can walk with these things, but running is going to be a challenge under anything less than ideal conditions. Make sure in settings that they are on 40hz. One more thing that I like is that it has 940nm IR light. I have an old gen2 analog that can't even see 940 at all. My phone can hardly see it. And 940nm IR is totally invisible to the unaided eye. None of that slight reddish glow when looking directly at it. Overall, I am very happy with the setup and am glad to pay 20% of analog binos for about 80% of the effectiveness.

Awesome review! You bring up an excellent point about the need for supplemental IR with regards to passive aiming and we do sell a few different ir laser/ illuminator combos on the website including a P4, MAWL C1+ and RAID-X clones which are all designed for airsoft(though we have been getting some good feedback about those devices holding up to 556). Will arrange for another NVG30 with Bino Bridge to be sent to you! Anybody else here interested in grabbing one of these can message me on the website, email or call if you have any questions. Thanks for an amazing review KRAKEN! Looking forward to seeing some more airsoft footage.

@AlgerLapitan if you're not actively using it weekly, even monthly, digital is in my opinion superior, and i dont have to worry about damaging it. The pvs ends up being a paperweight.

Seems like a great unit. Especially for an entry device. Can just buy one and use no messing around. I managed to build a Gen2+ XR5 unit for €700 ($1000 CAD), ive dabbled into digital NVG too with a Night Eagle 3 V2, no comparison but still surprised how well digital holds up, somewhere in between gen 2 and gen 1, seems to preform better than my gen 1. Id say if someone just wants "an" device for an entry, NVG 30 is perfect but if you dont mind buying a cheap janky 3d printer(can pick one up used stupid cheap nowadays) or know someone that has one, can scavenge and find a messed up (but still useable, mine has plenty of blems) tube and dont mind the work, saving a bit more gets you an insane bump in quality of experience, but then again, digital works day and night with no adjustment, no real risk to damaging the camera inside by using at daytime, definitely worth weighing up pros and cons of each.
@malin79199 күн бұрын
The downside of NVG 30 is it lacks the standby mode that many other NVs have. So the bright screen is always on or you have to power it off completely.

Here's a good question. (Perhaps a dumb question) Would someone looking through a pvs 14 see any light signature with the IR off? Is there anything that emits from the camera itself?

@kraken_tactical3 ай бұрын
I find it pretty solid, I don’t really have much to compare it to. I think it’s not quite a 1x almost feels more of a 0.8x or something. 👍🏻

I find once it aligns with my unaided eye it's pretty spot on but every user's experience will differ slightly. What you won't need to do us bump up the mag to get to 1:1 and loose an already narrow vertical fov like with an aurora.

It preforms EVEN WORSE but it just has more features, idk why they even MADE this thing, it just... sucks lmao but yeah i wanna get an nvg 30 some time

As the market starts getting bigger for digital night vision youl see more higher end sensors come out that are dedicated to night vision and will produce much better results. Now unfortunately the sensors out now are far from the best that can be made. For example the best Sony cameras now can see better in the dark than humans can and that's also with a filter that blocks all IR light from coming in.
