Thanks, Kelly, for the deep dive in actually using OneNote. As one who uses this tool extensively every day, I agree with what you are presenting. For those interested in taking this further * I would also investigate the Outlook/To Do integration to let you flag a line item in your OneNote as a task and then track it through to completion. If you have an assignment, then flag it in OneNote when you receive it with reminders to ensure you don't miss a deadline. * Setup your own schema of custom tags to mark like actions in the pages as you take the notes and be able to collate them quickly using the Find Tags, sort by Tag Title process. Make the custom tag from one of the clickable options and you can track what is still outstanding at any time. * For those in industry setup shared notebooks in Teams/SharePoint and use it as a WIKI for your team with all the group procedures / learnings. This then is the single source of truth for new team members instead of bombarding them with a thousand email/word documents as they try to get up to speed and can be used as a reference going forward. They can sync the document to their PCs / mobile devices for reference at any time. I would encourage people to look deeper into OneNote as it WILL make your life better.

Great video. There are a lot of OneNote videos that don’t really show how it’s useful but this does. It’s also great for organizing lots of information from different sources and once a project is done you can save it as one file instead of having a bunch of stuff scattered everywhere. If you work a lot of projects as an engineer it comes in handy especially when you have to hand it off to someone.

Hi, you made really good points and gave me good ideas about how to organize my notes. One thing that caught my attention was the fact that you use an ipad to take notes and your laptop to organize them. By a laptop you mean a Windows-based laptop or a Mac? I'm guessing it's the former. Does that mean you only use your iPad in class, and later you study your notes using both your ipad/laptop? And yes I agree, the 2016 OneNote app has more functionalities than the more 'modern' app (which is really a stripped down version). Not sure why there is two apps. Also I'm surprised you didn't mentioned the math tools options. Especially the one that allows to convert your handwritten equations into a text format. I personally like to enable the dark mode feature. My eyes tend to get less tired, but it's not always possible when inserting documents with white background. Anyway, thank you for sharing your experience! - Cristian

Hi Kelly, recently I start to work out notes on one note as ChemE student. Here is a question that I wish to ask you. Can I know whether you face problem when exporting notes into PDF? As it may cut some of the words between 2 pages, is there anywhere I can do to avoid that?It is annoying when I need to export my assignment or homework for submission
@k-a-youtube4 жыл бұрын
Hi Catherine, great question! I have found that when you "print to pdf" or "save as pdf" in OneNote, if your ON page is longer than one PDF page, it will split the text/handwriting between two pages, but it will duplicate the last part of the first page onto the first part of the second page. That way, if the first cut it does on the first page ruins a diagram etc, by cutting and duplicating in a different spot on the next page, it usually is pretty good about including the full diagram. I hope that makes sense! Try saving it as a PDF and check out the file!

How do you go about turning your class notebooks into one semester notebook? Do you have to manually copy paste each section?
@k-a-youtube3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Great question, I could’ve clarified that a bit better. My school runs classes by semester (two semesters each school year), so it was a natural organization strategy for me. I would guess yours is by quarter? In that case, you could do notebooks for each quarter, or yes, like you said, copy and paste sections over. The key is to use what ever strategy works best for you!

What version of OneNote is this ?? Were the section group is on the top
@k-a-youtube2 жыл бұрын
Hi! The version with the tabs on the top is Microsoft OneNote, it was previously “OneNote 2016”. This version comes with a Microsoft Office install, eg if you buy Office, or if you’re a student and your school offers it. Note that this is different than “OneNote for Windows 10” that comes free with a windows device (Ie laptop, surface). This version is very similar to the phone/tablet version and has the tabs and pages nested on the left side of the screen. :)

I am signed in to both my school and personal accounts, which can get confusing at times, so maybe your computer just got mixed up as to which account you’re using! Other than that, try a Google search with the exact text from the error code, or, if possible, calling/emailing your school’s IT department. Cheers!
