Finished the course earlier this year and have to say it was one of the best learning experiences I had in art. It's structured really well and every lesson has assignments that really hammer down the lessons so the knowledge doesn't just disappear into the void. Everything is explained really well and very often in different ways, showing different approaches to archive the goal. Plus I really think that besides the theoretical knowledge you internalize a great mindset during the course to loosen up, play with the different subjects and not be afraid of mistakes. Definitely recommend this course for people who wanna learn painting and portraiture, it's absolutely worth it!

I love ahmed but, I have never gotten the sense that he's really a good teacher. I repeat, I love him and love his videos, but I usually watch his vids just to watch him draw, rather than learn from him. I don't consider him to be in the same category as, for example, Proko. IME his tutorials seem to be very broad and nebulous, no clear cut plan and way to avoid mistakes that tend to occur from it, or detailed exercises with a focus and all the pitfalls of it WITH a detailed guide on how to do it. He's done a bit of all of that but I am typically not impressed with it for one reason or another (his instruction, not artwork). His tutorials really remind me of the "Draw the rest of the fcking owl" memes, although he does offer good advice for sure. But his instruction seems to be tailored towards people who already can draw well and just want advice to mix things up or something. Anyway, I didn't want to bash him I just am wondering specifically, how is his actual course like with this^^^ in mind? How would you compare to Proko (or new master's academy if you're familiar)? The "before and after" photos on the website look super misleading (halfassed sketches vs full on illustrations) and I haven't heard much about the course itsself from other people

@@calebcampbell5951 I know this reply is months after your question, but for me the reason I like this course are 1) the easy-to-understand concepts that Ahmed offers (which are probably similar to his videos but I primarily look at the proko content) that my monkey brain can understand, and I've utilized them in pieces so that's great. 2) I like the structure of having a class that will show you how far you've progressed into the course. I know that's a little thing, but for some reason I have a hard time just navigating my way through youtube videos, even with a playlist, so having it more structured and laid out and being able to check my progress into the course is nice. And 3), and I'd say this is the most important for me, Ahmed gives you lots of assignments. Proko does as well, but other teachers on the proko website, and even other art websites, don't give you assignments. Aaron Blaise, for example. I love Aaron and he explains concepts well, I've bought lots of his courses, but he doesn't give any homework. He gives you the info and then basically just lets you play around with what he's taught and figure out the applications on your own. Unfortunately, I don't learn well that way, I like actual assignments. So the fact that Ahmed gives you lots of real assignments is awesome in my book. That being said, I understand if his course isn't necessarily for everyone. But for me at least, and even though I have an art degree I'd still consider myself to be beginner/intermediate level, it's helped me quite a bit already. Both understanding digital and other concepts. Not something that I needed to have a mastery of before starting his course. He doesn't really point a lot of it out per se, it's kind of a "wax on, wax off" you realize you've learned something after the fact just from doing the assignments. Which might not work for everyone. It really helps my monkey brained way of learning though.

Any one that is familiar with Ahmed and his work, are also familiar with his teaching style! Med’s Map has to be one of the most clear and concise digital painting courses I’ve taken in a long time. No matter your experience in digital painting, there is ALWAYS something you can take away from this. The videos are just long enough to keep you engaged and focused and the assignments help solidify what you’ve just learned. I think the most rewarding part is that you see the progress! I know it isn’t always about getting from point A to point B…BUT I’ve notice a change in the span of 3-4 months and it’s actually insane! Of course you will always get out what you put in and this is a course thats meant for people who are willing and serious about learning! As someone who still frequents Med’s Map, I can assure you it’s worth the investment!

This tutorial is PERFECT, i always wondered how some digital artist do that traditional painting style (like WLOP) for example, this tutorial helped me so much understanding brushwork, i even noticed techniques (like the lost edges and removing detail on purpose) that i can see on other artist pieces. Also this are really good fundamentals if you are a beginner, he teched light, form, points of focus, composition, contrast, color, values and brushwork, all packed in one video

This is the best digital painting tutorial I've ever watched. Before, I had no idea how to even aproach digitial drawing, even though I'm not that bad with more traditional drawing techniques. After this I feel like I finally understand how does it work and I'm able to produce some nice paintings. Many thanks to you.

Med's course is amazing, especially if you're trying to self-teach. His lessons build upon the fundamentals in a very intuitive way, managing to be comprehensive but not overwhelming. I can credit this course - and the awesome community around it - with helping my skills grow to an incredible degree in the last year. If you’re a self-taught artist looking to fill the gaps in your knowledge, I absolutely recommend Med’s Map!

Q: At 5:27, it's mentioned that the photo/artwork shouldn't be cropped top tightly or it'll create tension (unless intended). So that brings up the question of whether during the process of picking reference material, would it make sense to learn up photography framing fundamentals before digital painting, so that the process of learning digital learning will be much smoother? (I picked up graphic design before taking a refresher on digital painting, which was why I'm asking this :))
@CrayfishDesign
@CrayfishDesign Жыл бұрын
You can technically learn the framing by doing the painting. You don't have to do a carbon copy of the reference. If you found something that is not cropped well or photographed well, why would you paint it anyway right?
