Thanks for the video. I got an F32, similar model from projection design, for free. They couldn't figure out what was wrong. I wish I saw this earlier. I took mime apart and cleaned it up. 16000$ without lens ;) That weird rear ports is for x-port modules, this modules for example allow to stack 2 projectors like this one and make passive 3D projection, like in cinemas (to make this you also need special cage with polarization filters)

I got a cheap one and put a new bulb in it. Just running the new bulb it’s extremely dim. I have the iris all the way open and the lamp power turned all the way up (8 out of 8 brightness positions). Maybe the bulb is just crap? It was from Amazon and was only $60. It does have the IR coating on it. It seriously looks like it’s putting out about 500 lumens. My 2000 lumen Benq is WAY brighter and that’s on an old bulb. Btw this thing puts out an insane amount of heat!! Like 5x my Benq.
@FixitFrank7 ай бұрын
All lamps on amazon are trash. for $60 you got a fake junk lamp. Seriously don't buy them. They are not the same regardless of their claims. One of these cant be sold for less than $100 and be any good.
@BiffTannenBTTF7 ай бұрын
Sounds about right. It looks like Jaspertronics has some with claimed Philips bulbs installed. The one I got has no branding whatsoever. I’ve also heard that low brightness can be caused by integrator rods failing. Is this true?
@FixitFrank6 ай бұрын
fF you bought a lamp from Jaspertronics, that is your problem. I wouldn't touch their stuff if you paid me. Pure trash. I have repaired so many units that were flat our ruined by their products. Then people post a real review saying that, and they go and buy a bunch of fake reviews to bury it. rinse and repeat. the day Jtronics goes out of business is a great day for the industry. It could be the integrator rod but I highly doubt it unless their lamp damaged yours. I hope it didnt. these are great projectors.

I think you mentioned resetting the lamp hours somewhere? Can you explain how to do it on these? If I buy a new lamp now for one of these older DPI units will it have the lamp timer on it?
@FixitFrank2 жыл бұрын
good question! The board on the lamp assembly is where the timer info is handled. Any reputable seller will have a 0 hour timer module on that lamp and once you install it, the timers should show 2000 hours left and 0 hours used. I know how to reset them myself but it is not info that I am comfortable sharing online because it could be used by lamp sellers with less than legitimate intentions. I have reset modules for people who want to only replace the bare bulb inside and re-use the housing. back in the day, these lamps were $800+ so it was worth it, but these days, they are $175-200. www.purelandsupply.com/projectiondesign-lamp_400-0400-00.html These for instance have proper timer modules and proper Philips UHP inside. I love these olde DPI units. So well made!

heck this one looks sweet inside! Rated for 24/7 operation too is pretty cool. Were you able to get the firmware updated and what if anything was fixed?
@FixitFrank3 жыл бұрын
I was! That was for a projector for a local nursing home. It was a Projection Design F30SX if I recall correctly. Once they sent me the firmware file, I was able to flash it via the serial port. Its still running(10 years or so later) as far as I know. I've always wanted one of these for myself. I don't think it'll work out in the bedroom. The mount needs to be more substantial than I want to deal with in there. I'm moving it to my office or my living room as either a temp replacement for my TV(hang a screen in the front and put it on the coffee table) or use it in my office as a monitor. I'm leaning towards the office even though my wife is fine with me putting it in the living room.
@KryptonSvingar3 жыл бұрын

Its still pretty nice. My only complaint is getting the colors right. There are so many adjustments that its far harder to get right than my Sony. That said, once its set it is really nice. I would use it as a theater projector if I had the space. But currently its used outdoors on occasion since its so bright and the one I have has a wide short throw lens.
@BiffTannenBTTF7 ай бұрын
@@FixitFrank Very cool. I’m thinking of using one for a theater on a smallish 110” screen. I definitely would only use one lamp though lol. Does it have an iris to dim it further? What Sony do you have? How does the overall picture compare?
@FixitFrank7 ай бұрын
I would look at a Sony or JVC instead of the DP(unless its free/cheap). The fans are kind of loud to be close to it. I run a VPL-HW50ES at the moment as my main projector and have a newer NEC laser for other uses.
@ralphj40123 жыл бұрын
Why would you have a pressure sensor in a projector? Is it sensing fan operation (air flow across the heatsinks, which I would have assumed would be much lower with the covers off)?
@FixitFrank3 жыл бұрын
I am not sure the real reason, but you might be onto something. My guess is to know how fast to run the fans depending on the ambient barometric pressure. In normal projectors, you have to select high-altitude mode, this might be a way to determine that by itself. I should probably check the manual. When I do and if they say why, I will update the comment.
@ralphj40123 жыл бұрын
Ah, yes, barometric pressure detection makes more sense (thinner air the higher the altitude, therefore higher fan speed required)

the same model, the image flashes in different colors, what could be the problem? sensors? color wheel?
@FixitFrank2 жыл бұрын
Definiltey a color wheel issue but it may just need cleaning. If the sensor is dusty, that will cause it. If its not dusty the wheel may be failing. If you replaced the lamp recently, make sure the IR filter glass on the front is the same reddish tint as the old lamp. an incorrect IR filter can cause this too.

Hello, help me decide. I have a Sony 55 projector, just like you. I am offered to exchange it for a projector from the video: dvision 30 1080 xl. They say that it will be much sharper (because DLP), much brighter and will not lose to the Sony 55 in contrast, аnd it will be a high-quality replacement for the projector. Unfortunately, I can't see it with my own eyes. I'm also worried about the quality of the motion display. Can you tell me your opinion?
@FixitFrankАй бұрын
Anna Hello, I suspect the Sony may be better. The LCOS has very high sharpness compared to LCD. I still own this dVision 30 XL and I find setting the color is far more difficult. It also depends on the lens that is paired with the unit. I will say the dVision is a very very nice projector but it requires more intricate setup in my opinion. It is much brighter than the Sony but in a dark room, the brightness is not as much of a problem. If I was unable to try the dvision without giving up the sony, it would be worth investigating. But if I had to give up my Sony without seeing the other projector first, there are too many unknowns to be confident that it would be better. The dvision is a better projector but it requires a lot of space. it is physically quite a bit larger than the Sony and it requires 2 lamps instead of one. I think in the right enviroment and with the right lens, the dvision could be better but for a normal sized home, I think the dvision is massive overkill. If you can convince the owner to let you try the dVision first, that would be ideal but if not, I would caution against it. I could be wrong so please take all of what I said with a grain of salt. Thank you for your question!
