Hey there! Just wanna pop in and give my appreciation on the video! 7 years later and this still works! Got a Yihua 937D and it was making clicking sound just like yours, from day 1! Your video helped me fixed it! Thank you!

YES! This fixed my solder station (it included a hot air device, but would only buzz on the soldering iron). I recently relaminated a transformer for an older stereo... I didn't want to do that again... and I didn't want to go through a return process (because as you said, next one may have same issue) Thanks again!

Great video. Taking a look at the circuit board and guessing what each component does was actually a quite helpful and educative exercise as well. I also like how your desk area is so organised.

Since most of your viewers are dj/music related, can you do detailed video about cdj soldering play/cue microswitch replacement. It is the most common thing that gets damaged and there is no video of how to do prop soldering of it, i guess many people will appreciate the video. Thanks and keep up a good work. Thumbs up if you agree so viper can see it.

When it gets loud again I recommend you to use locktide to glue the screws in permanently.

the blue component on the main switch board next to the fuse is a varistor, not a filter. I guess it would "filter" out a voltage spike but still its very distinct component and should not be confused for a cap.

I notice only two wires going to the connector for the iron. No connection to the thermistor for temperature measurement. I wonder how (or indeed if) they are measuring the tip temperature.

So i guess they drive the iron with ac not dc, does it make a difference ? if you converted to DC you wouldn't have to worry about sine of ac. I guess its more components and maybe it wears tips more ?

interesting. I have my mixer that it's humming quite a lot, i'll take a look inside if the chinese guys forgot to screw it tight... also my sl1200 it's very old and it has a slight hum from the transformer, more than a hum seems like a vibration on the entire deck itself. Already checked that screws are tight as hell, i've read somewhere that transformers may become like this as they get old. At least i hope it won't fry, finding out a good replacement may be tough.

+JaKeAFC09 they probably did screw it up tight, but it's the classic case of coil whine. Which causes both noise and vibrations when under stress (resonance). Chances are over time the screws will again loosen due to the vibrations caused by the transformer.

I have to say with the comment you gave you could it sounds as you could have built your own soldering station?? Well Done.!!

I have a similar soldering station, the Tenma 21-10115 that works on 110V. Mine wasn't buzzing, but I took it apart after seeing your video. The layout was very similar, but not identical to yours. The screws holding down the transformer were a little loose, so I cranked them down a half of a turn or so. Your screws were definitely looser. Anyway, thanks. It was an interesting video.

Hiya , I wonder if anyone had an issue with a soldering station noise while it is plugged in but switched off at the same time. I got the Yadgong 898D , plugged it into the mains and it immediately started making a very faint humming noise without. The gun switch is off so I reckon it shouldn't be making any noise at all. If you know whether I should be worried about it or not, could you tell me, please ?

How do you find the temperature control I have seen a review on this unit and the temperature control is not a thermocouple in the head so temperature is not very accurate I was going to buy a Maplin Gold A55KJ but decided not to after seeing the review

That's an interesting point; I have never really checked to be honest. I do have a soldering iron temperature testing unit, I might do another video on the test and calibrating the temperature on this iron. I also know of a Hakko heating element that has a thermocouple on the tip of it, so I'm'# thinking to do another video on hacking this iron to have proper thermal control. I will be honest, I'm not convinced be the measuring technique they have designed on this iron. so I will look into this and follow up on another video. thank you for your comment.

your welcome I have a Weller iron that has a thermal tip each tip has its own so if you change the tip you change the temperature ie big tip high small tip low that was why I did not purchase one like yours, it has a pic micro in it so must do some sort of mark space ratio and look at current drawn I would think there is a lag to play catch up
