Digital art is cool but I agree about the satisfaction of creating something traditionally. And to your point of digital art having the ability to undo with ease, I think lack of this in traditional art creates a more aware artist and forces you to make artistic choices with purpose.

I do more traditional illustrations for editorial design for my clients and sometimes when I maje a mistake in my illustrations I use that mistake to create something new that adds to the artwork ot's really fun and show me how to experiment with different things,I only use digital for coloring or details sometimes when I have too much work

I think the reason I prefer digital art is that personally for me it's more unlimited. I don't have to buy all these expensive markers or color pencils. I feel that with digital art there are more possibilities with what to do. For me, it allows for more types of art for me. But I can definitely see where the satisfaction from traditional art comes from. But I do love the feel of skeetching with pencil and just a really nice traditional piece.

@@spector8679 Pretty much any half decent laptop can handle everything you throw at it when it comes to digital painting. That is at least if you don't plan to use an 8k canvas which would be going overboard. Get one with an i5 or ryzen cpu, 8gb ram and a dedicated gpu preferably gtx 1050 or above

I think its about texture. I relate to both, i love both for what they lack from each other. I haven't started serious sketching so i don't know about the art supplies but i know each pencil or tool in traditional like digital, creates a different feel to the over all piece the beauty is to play with the different tools and how they work together. But with traditional i believe i can play with more textures i can grind up rock and literally create like u stated a tangible sense of personality to a piece and thats also what i admire and value in other traditional artist work.
@Bimyou
@Bimyou 6 жыл бұрын
I think both have their own particular aspects. I personally prefer traditional art because I feel it is relaxing (good way to detox myself from the internet tbh) but it's also challenging, you need to do a good sketch because you can't easily fix some mistakes later, and the textures you achieve with the paper/canvas and how the materials interact (physically and chemically!) is something you can't replicate easily with any software. However, lately I've been doing more digital stuff because it is more convenient, you don't need to worry if you run out of a specific color or supply, and you don't need to set up/clean up stuff (honestly, traditional art can be incredibly messy, specially if you use paint), everything is in your computer and you just need to plug in your drawing tablet (and that can be optional). I think all the available editing tools are a necessity for digital artists because you can save a lot of time and do a clean piece, and being a file it is easily shared with people around the world. In the end, I think it's just a matter of doing what you want to do or using what you requiere in that moment.

Omg I totally agree with u, I do both traditional and digital and that’s exactly what I thought about, the pros and cons. This video is so relatable XD, it also depends on my mood and what I wanna produce, if i wanted to do certain effects I’d choose digital, like fog or rain or something glowy like a saber or something but I’d choose traditional if I wanted that texture and to hold it and feel my hard work XD also to practice mediums, it’s awesome it’s really endless. I can’t choose between both I just think they’re both unique and customizable like having a sketchbook or having a background on ur pc that u made urself with all the endless effects u can add! Man I love art XD sorry for the ramble

I've always loved traditional art and digital art. When I first started drawing last year, I started with traditional stuff. I've been doing that ever since. Recently I've started to try my hand at digital art. It's not easy, just like learning the old fashioned way, but I am enjoying it. I think I prefer traditional art for practice and art studies, as well as creating a more personal piece. I prefer digital art for a more clean, polished piece. As an artist that is now working with both mediums, I believe that they both have their pros and cons. Sometimes I even combine the two by drawing on paper then scanning it into the computer to color.

Thank you for this vid 💕 Im just starting into drawing arts these days, and i do intend to learn both traditional and digital art. A friend told me to start from the traditinal one before digital to strengthen the basic. And in the still-little experience i have, i can relate a bit. I do want to explore the unlimited features and possibilities in digital art programs, but for now, im really enjoying the challenge of drawing traditionally, making mistakes and improving with the limited sources ☺️

Happy to see you back uploading! I hope your knee recovers fully soon 💖 I think when I was younger I had a heavy preference to digital art over traditional, for its convenience and accessibility to things like color. It also just so happens that working digitally has begun to put a lot of strain on my body, particularly my eyes - I can never feel comfortable anymore sitting in front of a monitor for hours to draw and paint, even when taking breaks. I even invested in a Cintiq hoping that it would improve my ability to draw digitally with better posture, but I have to say that I usually feel the worst behind that device. I can't lie and say it wasn't a bit disappointing, after pining after a tablet monitor for so many years. It's been very rejuvenating going back to paper drawing, even if I do miss the convenience of digital drawing and painting. Maybe one day I can invest in a big comfortable studio setup and feel better and more free to create things.

My art story started with traditional like a lot of other people's, but in middle school I got my first tablet and did most of my learning to draw digitally. I have a fondness for the sorts of effects you simply cannot get with traditional art, and I find digital MUCH easier. In college I started focusing more on traditional art, mostly watercolor painting, and the same claim goes for that - there are so many things that a computer can't replicate in the same organic way. It's really interesting. I'd say I love both equally, but I'll probably always prefer to do line art specifically on my PC cause I have shaky hands and I'm tryna avoid that mess lol. Love the video and drawing

An insightful sharing! I've been a traditional artist for a long time, but recently started doing digital, and there's something I kinda disagree at this point in time. Although 10 hours might be spent on a software creating digital art, it isn't just a bunch of pixels that we are making, like you said, it requires the same amount of skill as in traditional art, but instead of having a tangible piece of art we could hold, digital art is afterall a different medium and still has value when we look at the piece and think about the process that's been put into to create it. Thus far, I felt that I've been able to create even more 'photorealistic' works, given the tools available digitally, compared to traditionally. Given so much of the benefits from digital art, I still can't say that one is better than the other holistically, because both have their merits and weaknesses. That said, I think it's still important for anyone young ones to first pick up skills the traditional way, be it painting or drawing, to appreciate the tactile feel of their tools on the canvas, before moving on to the stylus and screen.

When I do traditional I know lineart works looks 10 times better compared to my digital one but then again I have a 15 year old Bamboo tablet with a somewhat okay laptop so. Both are great, doing to much computer screen does mess up the eyes so doing a little of both worlds is great. Its ok, sometime it sucks that somethings happens to convince you to do what you want to do. I have no excuse I have so much time and I just waste it like a fool and make half ass stream videos. But I totally understand you though, you are amazing and I hope your channel grows.

Starting off, you did an amazing job on the drawing! Following through, I fully agree with you on the controversy of Traditional art vs Digital art. Traditional art has the connections to the artist, while the small imperfections make it more lively. If that makes sense. There is a deep satisfaction of looking at digital art cause it's so clean and smooth, though. All in all, try new things for yourself and experiment with the world around you! Keep up the fantastic work! :)

Loved watching you draw this. I agree with your views on both these mediums and I definitely enjoy traditional art , specifically sketches and drawings more because they are so raw. It's always hard to keep the rawness of the initial drawing after you take to the "final" stages of colour. The major pro about digital art growing up was it was was "cheaper" and easier to access than traditional art. You just had to have that friend who was willing to share their photoshop copy with you...haha

Well I will BASH Digital Art! I only do traditional art as it's REAL, it's on a real canvas like Paper, and I know it's mine as I worked hours with my mechanical pencil and technical pens on it, also I don't mind scanning my work as a PDF, but digital art is awesome, but I'm not "wired" or have the "Natural talent" to do digital art, and besides there's no "love or effort-from-experience" in digital art! ericanthonyj says it best!

Well, to be honest, I love digital art because it's really neat, you avoid any imperfections there and it's very pleasing when you're creating a comic or concept art which is great. Nevertheless, I do think it's important to keep practising traditional art as well. As you mentioned in the video, there are different things that one or the other doesn't have. It's cool when you can create several textures with watercolour or add several layers with gouache and all that kind of stuff. I would actually stay with both mediums, but I find it crucial to learn traditional art first before starting with digital art (it's just my opinion, it doesn't mean that all artists should do so :p) PS: you posted when I was having my final exams and I was waiting impatiently to watch this when I could xD. Thanks for keeping up with the channel ^^

I'm like a 90% traditional artist, but I looove digital, it's a whole new world of creating art that has no real limits. Traditional is always my first love though, it's something I can touch and make a mess with and it just gives it THAT much value. But I can see why some people wouldn't like digital, many non-artist have used these lazily for self gratification, so people couldn't really tell whether the piece was authentic or not. Love the vids btw!

Hmmmmm thats kind of how I feel with warhammer minis, I would see people post very intricate and detailed paintings on their miniatures thats smaller than their thumbs and it seems so amazing. And then when I try it feels so much more satisfying because its something I made. But then when I paint with my computer I like it because I could do so much cool things and it feels easier with the tools. I like both and I do agree with you that both have differences and weaknesses to them

I personally like them for very different reasons. Digital is super great for me because I work on commission, and as such have a lot of people that want edits and changes, which would be a living hell and make me want to give up being an artist if I had to do that with traditional media. But traditional media is still great. As you said, the texture and imperfections make the piece alive.

i like both mediums the reason i prefer trad over digital is because it lasts longer sure you can upload a piece of art on the internet and it can stay there for years without the worrying of fade, distortion, and breakage. but its only temporary and paper and pencil marks are not temporary. it can last forever and you will still be able to remember that piece because its permanent and something close to the heart that made it meaningful and special and worthwhile with effort put it, digital art is fine but it doesnt give off the same feeling for me like trad does.

i love the one of a kind element of trad art(a person stood in front of *this piece and made it). But power and massive potential are awesome in digital art. Between the two there is something that just doesn't come across when on a screen or from a printer *to me. Its hard for digital artists I think as painting is as old as humans. Computers being sooooo new and i think folks don't know how to interact as viewers with it yet. Perhaps at the core of digital art need to define itself as something else than a way to paint with undos. Just as photo had to define its self as a stand-alone art form.

digital art is fun and a piece of mind knowing you can delete layers without affecting the rest of the painting. Traditional art has a different feel to it when you look at it. its just the quality and variety in strokes created with the human hand, it doesnt look as plastic as digital art, but it is a lot more expensive. and its good to have originals to sell to make that money back

I like traditional because for me, at least is faster, and has much more essence to it. Like, it takes me forever to draw a sketch digitally, and to make a painting come out the way I want it's so much harder on digital, and the same thing, anything digital look very polished and clean (which I love, but I never achieve that look and thats frustrating), also having to deal with programs crashing and brushes lagging, I just can't!

I do both. But I personally prefer Digital because it is, in a way, easier than traditional. In digital, you can erase any mistake quickly, so you're less scared of going out of your comfort zone and try new things whenever you feel like it. You also have a lot of different tools to use right off the bat. In traditional, it's preferable to make as less mistakes as you can, because at some point the paper can get dirty and all messed up if you erase too much (I hate that so much, damn). On top of that, if you want expert tools, you have to buy them, taking in account that you will have to use them all the time so your money isn't wasted. What's more, the paper doesn't react the same way with different tools, and you also have to choose which type of paper suits best your drawing style. So yeah, I prefer the digital because I'm the kind to go for easy (and also because it's so fun)

I personally think Digital and traditional art cant really be compared to eachother, sure the one has things the other doesnt, but that doesnt mean the one is better than the other. I just think art is pure freedom of thought and relaxation that makes it so gorgeous and important as it is. Its unique and every medium requires an own and special skill which makes every piece and every artist so unique and free as they are. It´s the way they do it and its so fascinating to watch and see peoples ways!! To me every medium makes its own impact and it depends on the viewers taste how much value it has.. Many factors come together and make up the pieces worth, depending on the person. (I hope this is understandable and people see where im coming from ^^ also please excuse grammatical errors, i was in some kind of flow) Oh! about a topic to talk about.. what about color theory? As in what colors to use for different effects and moods? how to make your drawing stand out? I really struggle with that ^^° sorry for this paragraph >w

I personally think traditional art is harder and shows more skills of the artist. For example, i saw when you made a mistake or not happy with one part of the painting, you can just enlarge/smaller or adjust the shape easily. while in traditional painting, especially marker and pens, once you are done, you are done, there's no way to change it dramatically ,only small adjustments. Also with digital art, you can put layers on the bottom and trace it, especially if you are drawing a celebrity, then people will think it is actually your skill, while if you draw traditionally without tracing, you maynot be as good as you show digitally. But I don't meant to say digitally has no skill required, I meant it requires less skill. If you've already killing at traditional art, digital is going to make you LIT. But if you are not so good at traditional art, digital maybe tricky. that's just my personal opinion.

Do you think that being skilled at traditional drawing first kind of assists with learning how to do digital drawing or can you start learning digital drawing without being really good at traditional drawing?

ericanthonyj Yeah, working in that way makes me feel I am leaving a part of me in my drawings. My dream is become an illustrator and I am trying to learn all I can from online paid courses after I finished the college (Couldnt study the proper career for finantial and stupid insecure teenager decisions), sadly, my job is time consuming.

I like digital art because I unknowingly did my first digital piece when I was 9 w/ Windows 98-Paint. Now at 29 I could never have imagined digital art. Even when I joined DeviantArt in 2008 I had never even heard of the term. I love to look at other people's digital art but creating my own just doesn't feel personal. Our society is so bent on convenience. I only care about the medium I use so I buy what I need for that yet I don't have to spend a fortune. Most of the people I draw for want to frame it or hang it on their wall. You can't do that with a digital piece. Digital media is beautiful to look at but is possibility really endless? There's the stealing of credit by other people posting other's art, then changing it, even with watermarks. Digital art IS art but what do you say to someone who can draw traditionally and make it look digital on paper?

I have to go with digital... you can't make art for video games that sells to millions of people and say traditional art makes more money... lol Take a game like Guild Wars 2, the art team won several awards, but it would be kinda silly if no one could work digitally on something like that. The character designs CAN be done traditionally, but still have to be digitized into a 3D object. In fact any art that goes into "that type" of game has to be digitized, so it just makes sense to work digitally. Think of the Avengers movie.. Can you actually store the cinematography of a great film traditionally? How much money does a great film like Black Panther make...? Tons of 3D artists work on films like those. Over 1 billiion dollars made right? So compare THAT to ANY piece of traditional art and you will get my point. Artists didn't really start creating great salaries or careers for themselves until the printing press thus the ability to copy and paste art with a machine. Picasso is dead now, but his paintings sell for millions, ( still not billions) I prefer to be still alive when my art can actually help me make a living.... lol No offense Eric, just thought you left out all the ways art makes money these days compared to when traditional art was the only thing going.

I agree with you on everything you said but I was talking about the value of the individual piece of art, and not the "service" that's being offered by an artist working for a production company. A piece of concept art will most likely not have the same value on the art market as a painting.

It's really sad that most video games lack creativity and most are just about war, combat, and shooters.

I prefer traditional art. As a lefty, I struggle badly with digital art, which sometimes forces me to not use my dominant hand. With traditional art, I can 100% use my dominant hand.

I don't really think I can like digital art more than tradition art. The only way that a person can like digital art is because of it being practical but we can't hide the fact that the process traditional art is more lively. But for my preference, I like both equally. For me, I don't have the money to get materials for different mediums and digital art is one of the only ways I can excess different types of tools and materials.
