@johnclark926
@johnclark926 2 ай бұрын
The PSVR1 adapter for the PS5 still works for the Pro, correct? Performance with VR games has historically been pretty spotty, I’m curious if after running on the enhanced version of the enhanced version of the enhanced version of the base PS4 hardware those PSVR1 titles can finally hit their performance targets 100% of the time.
@TheMusician25

Same… ps5 pro would make a looot more sense to me if there were real psvr2 improvements to gt7 and other big titles. I also find it really disappointing that the 120fps mode is not even mentioned.. it seems 4k120 is possible and it would be 100% the best way to play

It depends on what the limiting factor of PSVR2 is. If it is the GPU of the PS5, then it could improve with the pro. But if like the Quest the limiting factor can be the headset then some games may not see much enhancement.

The biggest challenge in the gaming industry is the abuse and neglect of it's workers. The combinations of crunch time and contract work is just baffling from a long-term viewpoint. To me, Alien Isolation looks better than most of today's so-called AAA games because of its clever combination of art design and graphics features, plus its dense, richly detailed environments and textures that help to make the world feel palpable and real. And it runs at hundreds of frames per second on pretty much any modern hardware. The same can be said about many games from the early PS4 era (e.g. Uncharted 4). Modern games look maybe 10% better, 90% just different, but run at 1/5th the speed.

@@Shantara11 Yeah it's crazy how bad TAA blur is in many modern games. Sure, you may get 2160p AA at 1080p, but your overall resolution will also look like 540p. I'm playing on a 4K TV and on a 3840x1600 UW monitor so it's not that big of a problem for me, but I would still like to see alternate AA solutions or at least the ability to turn of TAA (which isn't even possible in some games).

Watched a full twitch playthrough over the weekend and honestly the game holds up so well. It's truly magical. The A.I of the alien is also miles ahead of other games from that era. Sound design and music, atmosphere, tension building, pacing, art design etc... the game was just one of a kind. This feels like another Half Life 3 scenario. It will be incredibly challenging to bring something new that can top it. I believe the success of the latest movie has a lot to do with the sequal. Had a video format idea. "Dear _ Dev Team." For devs making sequels/reboots of games. Notes on things to look out for regarding engine choice and visual niceties to have. with an announcement like Alien Isolation 2, it's at an early enough state of development for them to find a lot of value in a targeted video. You could almost structure it like a dfretro, but call out certain key points to look out for if you want to capture the things that made the original special. Get granular, call out ways of avoiding shader comp stutter. Call out traversal stutter, and potentially ways to avoid it in there upcoming game. We know devs watch your videos, and we all love seeing you guys talk about behind the scenes stuff. being able to have a video structure designed around early game announcements could be a cool way of capitalizing on the buzz and giving the devs a nice took to shoot for through development.

The VRR implementation being unchanged on the PS5 Pro is a total bummer. I've been waiting for some confirmation either way, but I hoped that Sony would have used the Pro as the time to improve VRR. Sony, please update the VRR implementation, so at very least, it matches the Series X. I literally just bought Metaphor: ReFantazio on PS5 and it frequently dips below 48FPS, therefore outside the PS5 VRR range. It runs God awful, to be honest and not even in the built-up areas. This happens with SO many cross-platform titles, it's literally insane why there aren't more people being more vocal on this subject. The PS5 Pro will in theory help this issue with providing a boost for GPU bound titles, but further down the line, this will be an issue again... unless Sony provide a minimum 40FPS of low frame rate compensation.

PS5 Pro enhanced is not mandatory, it’s just mandatory to be certified on PS5 Pro to ensure there is no odd issues when running on the hardware. Same thing happened with the PS4 Pro. There is no way mandating PS5 Pro enhanced makes sense as what would that even mean for a pixel art game that runs at 4K120?

Regarding the RDR recommended system specs: I saw someone in the comment section of another video suggest that these specs are targeting 4k resolution, maxed out graphics settings, and 60+ fps. Meanwhile, the recommended specs for RDR 2 target 1080p with low-medium graphics settings. That's why the RDR requirements are higher than RDR 2. Don't know if this is true. But someone suggested it and that would makes sense.

It’s clear now why PS5 pro exists. PS4 pro was obviously to cater to the fact we all started buying 4K TVs so it made sense. But PS5 pro seems to be a brute force solution to bad software development. I can’t believe the games John talked about in his hands on. FF7 rebirth and Gran Tourismo 7 are such bland looking, not overly complicated games that should absolutely be able to run crystal clear on base PS5. Just look at the base console specs irrespective of it being ZEN2 it’s still an 8 core 16 thread CPU up to 3.5ghz. A 10tf+ GPU with 16gb of high speed memory and a super fast SSD. There should be no need for a pro console to be able to “lift the blur away” from FF7 rebirth. We are getting absolutely mugged off as consumers by lazy developers.

@1:03:55 I think the real issue with E-Cores is that they perform so wildly different from regular cores and require you to specifically account for them, that it's just not realistic to expect most games (let alone engines) to have some general, good solution for multi-threading with them. Generally if you want to multi-thread some work load, it's because you want it done faster, and e-cores tend to perform much slower than p-cores, which sometimes is fine, but not always. And so you have to create edge cases for that. And then at some point you begin to wonder why you're having to go through all this extra effort just to get consistent performance (talk about frametime spikes, inconsistent CPU core performance will only make that worse). I get the idea of allowing a "low power" mode of sorts with something like e-cores, but realistically e-cores should've been the MINORITY of cores, not the majority (and not even 50-50 with p-cores). Because any cheaper task literally won't need that many cores/threads to operate. KZbin doesn't require 16+ e-cores, nor does browser viewing. Yes, each tab operates like another process, but you only view one tab at a time. So, in my mind, in any logical/realistic implementation you'd have CPUs with the same number of p-cores as most powerful CPUs contain 12 - 16 with multiple threads (or higher cores if not) and only maybe 4 e-cores. That way games could just deliberately choose to not use those cores period, or only use them for absolutely simplest of tasks. But even then, this is all more complex than it really should be for a developer. I will also say (a bit against some devs) that the excessive inheritance/OOP chaining that modern games do IS a serious issue. Capcom's RE Engine for example, abuses OOP principles to a ridiculous degree, so much so that it uses C# (a classic OOP designed language) for game logic. These types of programming paradigms get REALLY slow when over-utilized. I've seen some RE Engine games with 10 inheritance deep class structures, which is a LOT of indirection when accessing virtual functions/methods. Ideally you want to minimize it to ONE level of inheritance everywhere possible. Maybe have an entity class that everything that can spawn inherits from. But beyond that, something component based is probably the more ideal option. The inheritance issue doesn't always show up as easily in performance metrics either, because it's like a death by a thousand cuts. Each inherited class itself isn't super slow, but when a bunch of them interact vs. similar code with no/little inherited structures interacting, you see some pretty noticeable random dips in CPU performance do to the massive increase in pointer indirection. And a BUNCH of that gets helped out by having more CPU cache since it minimize the required indirection in memory, but it's still not great. And I think Capcom's RE Engine (just as an example, because we have more insight into their engine with tools like REFramework) would become a WHOLE lot better performing if they put a hard limit on class hierarchies. I believe a lot of their CPU issues might come from the inheritance chain amongst other things (C# is a garbage collection language as well... with very little control over how it operates).
