Being of the late 70's/early 80's I'm not a fan of Millinials over use of calling every side scrolling game with action a "Metroidvenia" game. Game series like Strider are similar but would never consider it Metroidvenia. Just throwing the term around can sometimes over simplify the type of game it is at its core

Truly a testament to how good rasterized results can look. There's a difference for sure but it's such a subtle one because the rasterized scene is built so well. Is it worth the time and effort to make these scenes look good when you can do something more accurately with faster results? I absolutely think so.

Screen space reflections are a complete joke by the way. Source engine used planar reflections which reflected the whole scene AND were well optimized, while Screen Space looks dumb most of the time because you get artifacting at the edge of the screen and looking even slightly away from an object makes it go off the reflection

Man, am I the only one who feels like all unreal engine games look the same? Even though they have vastly different textures and models... But somehow they all look the same. I don't know what it is but I can immediately tell if such game is unreal engine or not. Is it the lighting system? The volumetric system that gives away? The reflections? Something is the same across all these games that gives it away.
@Lishtenbird
@Lishtenbird 3 жыл бұрын
Definitely not the only one. My bet is on the lighting - the way light spreads across materials and reacts to them seems to just always give out the engine, especially when games today want to put more contrast and sharpness over everything to boost that punchy game "realism".

It's a pretty good game, bought it on the current Steam sale. Flows well but does occasionally have a weird stutter but that's well known round the net. The game even "warns" that the windows version is still undergoing optimisation. I ended up settling on 1440P, dlss OFF, RT low, Shadows medium, Motion Blur low, textures High, 60 max FPS and it hasn't dropped under 60 so far.. Mobile RTX 3070 and 11800H.

The game looks decent enough. RT adds so little in visual terms it's pointless. Especially considering the performance hit. If it weren't for images side by side, almost no one could tell the diference.
@jorismak
@jorismak 3 жыл бұрын
Well, some people are more sensitive to it. It can really help in gluing the picture together, and it can sometimes feel more 'real' to me, even at lower resolutions. But I wouldn't lose sleep over it if I can't enable it or the game runs too slow with RT enabled. But personally, I would happily use DLSS + RT at a lower-end card over running the game with RT off but at native res, for example. If I have to choose between RT and < 60fps, or No-RT and >= 60 fps, it would be No RT. Like I said, this is all personal. And heavily influenced by the games you play and how you play them.

@brewski535
@brewski535 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah that sucks for convenience, it uses performance mode DLSS which is 4x the base resolution I believe. So you could use DSR or set a custom resolution and change the DLSS quality that way. It's a pain but it should work the same. I have a 1440p monitor so I'll probably run at 5k which is a 4x upscale. That's what I did in Alan Wake remastered and it worked perfectly.8

@brewski535
@brewski535 3 жыл бұрын
@@bearpuns5910 oh yeah of course, I think you're right, Alex said it scales depending on output resolution which makes sense. It is called auto after all! So 1080p= Quality (1.5x scale 1280x720) 1440p = Balanced ( 1.72x scale 1485x835) 4k = Performance ( 2x scale 1920x1080) I'm guessing 8k would use ultra performance, 3x scale, 2731 x1440 So I wonder how it works at other resolutions, say 1800p for example. Would anything between 1440p and 4k use balanced mode or performance mode? I presume balanced mode... 🤔

Reminds me of The Ascent in terms of putting tons of little details in the environment for world building that people could easily just run by.

I'm playing this off of the epic launcher on my steam deck and the graphics look weird. Is there any way to fix this?

It's not too bad although it still seems to have that floaty collision detection the new Metroid game has.

Even though this is a *sponsored* showcase, the LoD on such a game is really amazing, I think it rivals & in some cases even beats Ori !

Awesome video as always, would just have been nice to see perf on a highe end PC too, but i'm guessing 4k 120 with RT and DLSS with a 3080.

Another thing that is bullshit is that you can't use Ray tracing on DirectX 11 they literally made it so that you couldn't use it on direct x 11 and you could only use it on DirectX 12. And why the hell is the DLSS on Auto and they don't offer more quality options like quality?
