6:08 The mapper on the LoZ cart (MMC1) allows for swapping between vertical and horizontal mirroring modes. So if there's jank when scrolling vertically, it's a code problem not a hardware one.

this is very cool, but it's kind of annoying seeing these fancy GZDoom mods referred to as running "entirely within the Doom engine" GZDoom has had mountains of features added to it over the years, it's many times more complex and capable than the actual original Doom engine, and pretty far removed from it. seeing something like this in Doom would be extremely impressive, but that's not rly what this is

This reminds me of the time when I was in school still and drawing the UI for a OG Doom/Mortal Kombat 1-3 game would look like. Just Doom like this, but you play as the characters and doing moves. This was 1999-ish after seeing the Sub-Zero games where it felt like they did the reverse.

Doom can't do ladders, so they definitely had to do a different interpretation there. In Zelda, they are representing a playable space above another playable space, which as we all know, Doom does not do.

Technically Doom could fake ladders by essentially slapping a sprite over very thin stairs, Ive seen some .wad files do this. Also this is GZdoom, which can be modded to support 3d map geometry anyway.
