If you're talking about VK_NV_ray_tracing, yeah, of course, VK_KR_ray_tracing_pipeline was pretty much a copy paste with only tiny differences, down to the fairly awful API to send scene data by querying the driver's memory layout. If you're talking about but using further extensions, there really aren't that many; they should be using the few that do exist if they see value though; reordering looks like a free performance win if you have any further hints about ray locality for example. There's just not that much movement in APIs over the last 4 years, engines and hardware are still catching up to the huge hardware change that RT and mesh shading are. Efficient game development with clear and strict performance requirements internally is amazing. This game game looks like the devs knew from the start they were going to build it around RTGI by default, and constructed the world and rest of the game around that fact rather than trying to shoe-horn it in as a side project, and the performance really shows that, while minimizing impact to overall image quality (1800p is fantastic) and fidelity. I wish more current-gen games actually scaled their graphical settings on consoles like Machine Games has done here. We've seen far too many developers crank up the visuals, but then brute force those graphics into a "performance" mode which uses blurry, vaseline-like upscaling. This ultimately undermines their own artistic vision, and ruins the overall visual presentation for users. In contrast, Machine games has found an excellent sweet spot between image quality, detail and performance - resulting in a beautifully complete visual package. My biggest issue is shadow popin and LOD transitions. They are too close to the camera even on highest possible settings, which makes it horribly distracting and detracts from the overall very good visual quality. I agree with DSOgaming: "the game suffers from A LOT of pop-ins. Right now, there are lighting, shadow and object pop-ins. Lighting and shadows form right in front of you. This is something you can clearly see in the following video. Due to these pop-ins, the game may put off some PC gamers. I can’t stress enough how aggressive the LODs are in this game. This is something I really hope Path Tracing will address when it becomes available. The only downside is the awful pop-ins that occur right in front of view. I don’t know why MachineGames did not provide higher LOD options for the Supreme settings. It’s a shame really because in the big outdoor environments, the constant pop-in can become really annoying."

Either switching to full-screen or turning off DLSS and using TAA fixes the issue. 2. When you pickup collectibles likes notes, artifacts, etc, in Vatican, there is a small frame time spike. 3. I think there are leaks that make it seem like the 50 series is gonna be pretty close VRAM-wise to the 40 series but I could be wrong, personally I don't need or want a 600W card so I'd love it if the 70 series actually got upgraded to 16gb while 80 series gets 20-24 and 90 goes up to 32, but that's probably not gonna happen for another couple generations minimum, hell 70 series can't even get a 256 bit bus because then 4k performance would be less bottlenecked for the "mid-tier" $600 cards.

And only 9.8% saw AMD vs. Nvidia comparisons as most important. Since then I have prioritised my work week to focus on the things people care about and only add in graphics vendor comparisons when I have a large surplus of production time. It is the least important thing and not why people seemingly come to DF PC videos. Typically anyone can go to a Benchmark Website or Channel to get that surface level info.

This is why I'm glad AMD didn't skimp out on VRAM. My 6800XT still runs modern games at 1440 like a champ.

@semyonzhigunov6716 күн бұрын
Yeah, RX 7600 is known to have more VRAM than the Nvidia's competitor
@no1DdC6 күн бұрын
Given that this is a ray-tracing only game and AMD isn't particularly good at that, I'm not expecting the RAM to be all that useful. They've done this in the past, putting lots of RAM on cards that didn't have the power to actually utilize it.
@unnoticedhero16 күн бұрын
@@no1DdC Now if only Nvidia would give the 70 class cards a bit more VRAM, a lot of games run great on a 3070/4070 but can easily get very close to the VRAM limit at 4k, I just want a 70 card with 16GB.
@no1DdC6 күн бұрын
@@unnoticedhero1 You're both right and wrong. Nvidia marketed the 3070 for both 1440p and 4K - but this was four years ago. There weren't many games back then that needed more than 8GB of VRAM at any resolution. The 4070 on the other hand is barely over 1.5 years old - but it has 12 GB of VRAM and they only ever mention 4K in its press release in regards to video upscaling, not gaming, instead clearly focusing on 1440p as the intended resolution. I'm certain that Nvidia wants you to spend significantly more on at least a 4080 (and soon: 5080) if your intention is to use one of their cards at 4K. I wouldn't be surprised if the coming 5070 will once again only have 12 GB of VRAM, because if we're being honest, there's sadly so little competition right now that there are no incentives for Big Green to add more VRAM than absolutely necessary.
@GamerInVoid6 күн бұрын
One problem that I have found in my testing. On Nvidia cards like the RTX 4070 Super, without Frame Gen, the frametime is very unstable. Even if we are getting 70-80 FPS at 1440P Supreme, it feels sluggish. But once we turn on FG, it smoothes out completely

Happy to see that this video is not in HDR again. For some reason KZbin HDR videos turn my screen up to 11 and burn my retinas in the process. And the worst part there's no setting to switch it to SDR.
@SirYodaJedi6 күн бұрын
Not to mention they're washed out on SDR screens.
@dennisjungbauer44673 күн бұрын
I think below 1080p (or 720p) was always SDR. But, well, that sacrifices visual quality. And I think it's normal for the screen to not be constrained in brightness in HDR to allow for proper dynamics and peak brightness for specular highlights etc. That's the point of HDR. The overall image should not be very bright, only the highlights.

edit : 7:10 yes this should be on the requirement chart the pc requirement don't show what is needed for 30 fps ye im not playing at 30 either, but if they said 2070 or 3060 for 1440p high 30fps, this looks more reasonable edit : oh i only looked at nvidia, the vram thing alex but i keep my point, just say "12gb gpu" or something as it's more important than the raw power

NVIDIAs 8GB card's are already becoming a bad investment, even the 10GB on the 3080 was just not enough really for such a high end card. No matter the other caviars that do exist I think basically just only due to these small VRAM configurations (of course ignoring pricing as well) Radeon had been in a good spot til now, especially during RDNA2/Ampere times. Sure FSR still isn't the best, but it's better than only barely being able to run the game at all, especially in the 1440p and 4K ranges...
@dennisjungbauer44673 күн бұрын
Yeah, I had that feeling at launch already; the RTX 3070 should've gotten 10 GiB and the 3080 12 GiB, that way these cards would be much better off. I still think so. Just easier said than done. I was somewhat disappointed by the options back then, I remember. Generally it was exciting to see AMD on the high-end and with RT hardware acceleration as well and Nvidia making their prices more reasonable again, but Nvidia was lacking VRAM and AMD increased their prices quite a bit, making them less attractive from a price-performance perspective, initially also only offering a $550 alternative to the $500 3070 (RX 6800).

@@Wobbothe3rd Oh it's you again. When you make a technical evaluation and need to judge if a game is running well, acknowledging all the possible issues, you need to make sure that the issues are not vendor related, meaning: there are issues that can manifest on a certain brand of hardware and not on the other. If you test only on one brand of hardware and get an issue, you might think it's a game issue and not a vendor issue, and blame devs. But it could be a vendor issue, meaning that the game could be stuttering on Nvidia, but not on AMD. This very thing happened in God Of War Ragnarok DF PC review, where Alex blamed the devs for an issue that instead was Nvidia specific. If he tested also on AMD, he would have spotted that it was not a game issue, but a vendor issue.
