Great explanation. This is a better way than using the actual tool in many instances, especially the control you have over where you want the vignette to be applied most. I too struggled with the way the vignette tool wouldn't seem to work on an otherwise finished edit. It took me a while to associate it with the crop I'd made. My way around it was to save the imange and then re-import it. The vignette then worked perfectly because it was now the new "original"

Thank you for the tip. Is it possible to move the start of a linear gradient. In other words does the linear gradient always have to start at the edge of an image.

Yes the linear gradient is always from the edge in. If you need it in the middle of the image use a radiant one or just brush it in where you need it.
