Thanks for leaving this comment cause that actually was one comparison I wanted to do but didn’t have time to get done (mainly couldn’t find a big beautiful house). Pinning this with the hope that anyone interested in fly throughs sees your comment cause that is definitely one of the Avata 2‘s strengths. I’ve gotten indoor drone shots before with other Mini drones and the Mavic Air, but you’re right - it’s always a bit sketch, even with the prop guards.

Excellent evaluation! As others have mentioned, I own both. I've been in this hobby for 45 years, flying quadcopters since they first came out (Flamewheel 450 anyone?). You summed it up nicely when you stated the Mini 4 Pro is a flying camera; the Avata 2 is an aerobatic FPV drone. Both can do a little of each, but they are specialized for their specific purposes. One note: The Avata 2 price includes the Goggles; the Mini 4 Pro price does not. So if you want to fly the Mini 4 Pro with the Goggles 3, you'll need to fork over another $500 or so.
@hyperMP8 күн бұрын
Great point about the Goggles and I would add the Motion Controller as well, although technically for the avata you also need to fork out 200 extra on the fpv 3 controller. Overall the only thing that is missing in this review is the guidance to personal introspection, I also have flown both fpv and cine drones over the years and like both, but still the footage I like the most is the more dynamic one I get on my Avata. I'm not bothered by the lower camera quality versus the mini as to my eye it looks mostly the same on a 65' 4k TV (but also don't go crazy with post edits, I prefer as close to reality as possible so I can save memories, not Instagram or KZbin eye candy). Best case scenario is to have both and use what you like/ what fits in for that particular shot the best. Also, flame wheel 450, wow! Back then I would have been so jealous, all I could afford was RC Explorer tricopter, but not the frame, just the KZbin videos then dyi out of wood :)

Avata 2 and Mini 4 Pro are different tools for different purposes ... they both have their value ... Avata2 is aimed at very close and tight spaces shooting whereas Mini Pro 4 is better all around ... me personally I have an Air 3 and the Avata2 ... and they both are distinctively functional and valuable to me. When people get caught up in comparisons to try to buy ONE it all comes out to not enough money to buy both :)

I am looking to get my first drone and was wondering if I should get Mini 4 pro or the Avata. This video made it pretty clear that Mini 4 is the one for me. I like how you explained whether one drone can play the role of another. It seems Mini 4 can play an FPV whne need to an extent but an FPV drone can't really become your memory capture camera in the air. FPV is more for the experience of flying. Mini 4 pro is about a good quality camera that can fly.

I do own both, also Air 3 and Avata 1... I do think the Avata 2 camera is very good, it's the same as the Action 4 camera. Much bigger sensor than on the Mini 4 Pro. It can do 4K100fps and so on.
@DigitalTechReviewsTips3 ай бұрын
It’s definitely a better camera than the original Avata 1, however the Avata 2 and Mini 4 Pro use basically the same sensor (could actually be the same OV48C unit just with the quadbayer feature enabled for 48mp mode in the Mini 4 Pro) - though with a different lens and processor combo. Both can shoot 4K/100fps but the Avata 2 tops out at 130Mbps while the Mini 4 Pro can record 150Mbps (and notably with 10bit color).

I’ve been flying both for 6+ months. Since the Avata has the greater surface (prior aviation engineer) is why the wind profile has a great frontal resistance to free flow of air, which it why it’s not as good n the wind. When the winds are 15+ I just fly the Mini 4 Pro, really like them both for both worlds of flying. Have to try the Master Airscrew (4-blade) I got and yet to install to fly. I got the 4 Pro for the range on my site surveys, band the A-2 for real estate fly throughs and the tight obstacle (forest flying between trees). Still wanna try the goggles with the Mini 4 Pro…soon I hope! Two drones that have their separate “best at” by design.🇺🇸

Avata 2: In short, It’s all about the flying experience! producing very flowy videos and making you feel like you can fly like a bird. Mini 4 Pro: A portable cinematic flying camera which is amazing for both video and stills - more versatile if you had to choose between the two.
@DigitalTechReviewsTips3 ай бұрын
Way to perfectly summarize a video that I spent several weeks making in two short paragraphs 😂 But yeah, that’s basically the thesis of this video. Only edit would be I’d say “bee” instead of “bird” because the Avata 2 doesn’t quite have the speed or power of some of the bigger FPV drones out there to really allow you to feel like you’re soaring but can fly through smaller places.
@cnewland823 ай бұрын
@@DigitalTechReviewsTips 🤣 Maybe, but two short paragraphs are nowhere near as compelling as the video you spent several weeks making. Agreed - Maybe a “Bee” would have been a better analogy - my comment was written late at night when my brain was less than optimal 🤣. Great video by the way.

Ok so I have an original Mavic Pro and was looking at one of these two to add to the mix. I was heading towards the Avata 2 but I think the Mini 4 makes more sense. Is there a set of Google's that DJI make that will work with both the the Mini 4 Pro and my Mavic? If not, what is the best (future proof) set of goggles to buy that would work with the Mini at least?
@DigitalTechReviewsTips2 ай бұрын
Yeah I’d say if you liked the Mavic Pro the Mini 4 Pro will be more of a direct upgrade and does make more sense for you. As for Googles that work for both, unfortunately because the Mavic Pro uses the DJI GO 4 App (and an older OcuSync version) it is not compatible with the newer googles used by the Mini 4 Pro. Both the DJI Googles 3 & Googles Integra are compatible with the M4P, but given that they are newer (and more expensive by $146) the Googles 3 are slightly more future proofed.

Nope, it’s actually tracking you via the camera so doesn’t rely on the remote’s location. Unless you have a future plan to play with manual mode (which you require a different controller), I would say go with Mini4 Pro. The drive time is not more than 7-9 min, so it takes lot of batteries/recharges to get better.

This comparison seems quite unfair. First and foremost, the Mini 4 Pro's FPV capabilities are significantly overestimated. It lacks the power, speed, and throttle control needed for effective maneuvering, especially in stronger winds. These factors are crucial for a genuine FPV experience; it's not just about streaming the view to goggles. Additionally, the most premium segment of drone filming is exclusive to FPV. Whether you're chasing cars, boats, or extreme athletes, the Mini 4 Pro falls short, while the Avata 2 has the performance needed for professional applications-it’s far from being just a toy. I understand your preference for camera drones, but just as you detailed the Avata 2's limitations for traditional aerial shooting, it would be fair to address the Mini 4 Pro's limitations for FPV flying. FPV is no less nuanced than conventional camera drone operation; I’d argue it’s even more complex.
@DigitalTechReviewsTips12 күн бұрын
I 100% agree with you. I tried to point out my bias towards camera drones too so that people could be aware of it but appreciate you adding in your perspective here in the comments as someone who seems to have more experience and knowledge of the FPV world of drones. The only thing I would suggest is that most people who are deciding between the Avata 2 and Mini 4 Pro aren’t really necessarily looking to get into FPV. From talking to people who bought or owned the Avata 2, they mostly liked the “more immersive view of the goggles” (something I fundamentally disagree with but that’s a different story) and the motion controller. I agree that if I were to compare the Mini 4 Pro to the Avata 2 on the grounds of someone trying to fly full manual acro who had been an FPV pilot for 10 years - yeah the M4P isn’t even in the same league. To that same end though, any professional cinematographer would laugh at the Avata 2 being used as a camera drone. Ultimately I appreciate your comment with constructive criticism and feedback. When making these videos it’s basically inherent that I won’t be able to please everyone’s POV so I’m always grateful when those who don’t agree with me don’t just thumbs down and click away but take the time to eloquently explain their disagreement.

That is very true. The Avata is definitely built tougher. However, I’ve crashed the Mini 4 Pro a couple times with no big issues. Granted, both times was not flying very fast and not hitting pavement but still, it’s durable due to how lightweight it is. But yeah, you have a good point with the cost of the M4P + Goggles being like $700 less than the Avata 2. However, it could be a good way for someone to try out “FPV” style flying (at least where the goggles are concerned) and then upgrade to the full Avata 2 drone if they like it.

This is a weird comparison. It's like comparing wether a crane or a Formula 1 car is better.

I 100% agree (and that’s also a nice metaphor for this comparison I might add) but I was seeing the same question of people trying to decide between these two drones pop up in DJI forums over and over again so I decided to make a video nonetheless.

@@DigitalTechReviewsTips Well, its relatively easy advise the following way: "If you dont exactly know that you definitely want an Avata 2 for FPV squeezing through stuff kind of shots, get a gimbal drone like the Mini 4 Pro, Air 3 or Mavic 3 Pro first unless you already have one". This is true for both consumers and professionals.
