Never give up! I started FPV on the Avata 1 and after countless hours on the sim and in the air I got to the point where I could speed over the ground at only 2-3 feet even with tight turns. Now I build my own drones. That is the best because you can build drones for specific uses. FPV is awesome!
@IStoleYourSandwichАй бұрын
How long does the built drones battery last? I want to get the Avata 2 (not the self-built drones) and start doing FPV just because i heard that you can't fly for longer than like 6-7mins before having to replace the battery, which is a big downside i guess...
@ChrisCDXX3 күн бұрын
As someone who's been piloting helicopters, then drones when they came out. I have a lot of experience. There are different classes of drones. Some can fly 20 minutes from a similar capacity battery and some can fly 3. Just depends on if you want power or Cinema. Different drones for different uses

Flown mine four days in a row, and have had a blast! Today wasn’t as much because of the 10-15 mph winds on the hill where I fly a lot. Discovered more of how tough a time it can have in unstable winds. I’ve watch a ton of wild FPV flying with the Avata 2 and others, but am finding the occasionally speedy acrobatic twists/turns is nice, but am shaping more into a close proximity in-house maneuvers are more what I’m into. Love too not having to have direct sight flying, like even from a closet or room and just flying the camera! Thanks for all you do!

My timeline matches yours very closely. I grabbed Avata 2, appreciating the multiple sets of training wheels they provide from pathetic Beginner speed mode to almost full manual but with excessive angle inhibited. I am a few weeks in, about to spend time with Liftoff, and ordered a Neo to do my first Manual Flights with. It has so little mass, it should hold up to most crashes within reason. If not, Care Refresh is only $22 a year on the little guy, It's less intimidating if you are not worried about crashing a $1500 investment, but have all the gear to fly a $200 little guy.

^Very nice video man. I wish I had the spare money for that thing. Videos look amazing. Good approach to manual flying. My first contact with a drone was a sim and a Taranis QX7 from a friend. I learned ACRO the hard way. It's really not that ez to learn, so your advice is the way. Practice a move in the sim --> go and try it out irl. your opening statement is bothering me too. So many parts, protocols, battery charging instructions and the list goes on and on. A DJI is much more simple, but the biggest downer is not being able to fix it myself. Keep it up with these great vids dude..top Edit: What's the range of that thing? Are objetcs like buildings, trees 'n stuff actually blocking the transmisison to the goggles? I'd love to fly like 1-2 km away from my position. How long does a battery last when you're flying in a "normal" kind of way? Cheers

Hey nice recap of your experience. I have a question what's the differences between M Mode Attitude Limit on and off?
@flyingfilmmaker5 ай бұрын
Ah, good question, I should have mentioned that. Attitude limit just limits how far you can tilt the drone forward/to the side/ etc so you can't flip it upside down. But it also limits moves like diving etc. So if you want to learn manual mode, definitely turn that off.
@dylansmeets53795 ай бұрын

@@dylansmeets5379 I was super nervous to switch to manual too. But after some sim practice it's really not as hard as I thought it would be so I think you'll he fine. Can't hurt to start with attitude limit on and get a bit of a feel, I did a short circle or two with it before going full manual.

Great video! I learned flying acro the hard way too (e.g., crashing), however it was with FPV drones other than DJI. I found flying high to practice preferable to simulators, because I would get a little motion sickness from the simulators, but not when flying realtime. What is your take on 16:9 vs 4:3 with regard to videos that will be uploaded to KZbin, as well as how they compare when actually flying? Some people prefer 4:3 over 16:9 for flying. I’m not sure yet.
@flyingfilmmaker5 ай бұрын
Thanks! Interesting! Were you practicing with the sim on a screen in the goggles? My take on 4:3 vs 16:9 is that both work great fine for flying, but I always shoot 4:3 so I can crop 16:9 for YT videos and 9:16 vertical for IG etc.

Nice video thank you! If you don’t disable M Mode attitude limit, will this stop it from flipping please? I don’t need to do flips etc but would like the speed of manual mode, so would that be best for me please? I don’t want to do freestyle or race drones but might need that extra speed manual brings for when I am filming cars/bikes etc
@ukmonk5 ай бұрын
OK, kinda answered my own question lol! took the plunge and tried Man mode! Dude my heart was pounding lol but I've done a few hours in the sim and that def paid off. I tried sport first and getting to that brake button quick just in case then went man without disabling the M attitude and felt ok, then disabled that and tried a few flips etc. I didn't crash so that was good lol and the sim 100% helped a LOT. I actually love the stiffer throttle in normal and sport mode, and the speed I get in man will help in certain projects but for most of my shots I can get with normal and sport mode! I will still practise in manual though but dont really need to do flips etc but its cool as flying in man mode actually seemed to improve me in normal and sport modes! Thanks again!!

This is my video search parameter: DJI, Avata 2, First Manual Flight, Fly manual, How to fly manual, and similar terms. That transition is the difference between crawling and walk/jog/running. I have NO IDEA what that admittedly major step will entail, but I complicate it further with an aversion to the simulator. Yes, I understand the immense value of gaining muscle memory and learning to react to specific physics affecting the aircraft. I just don't particularly like simulators. At all. The more exposure to them, the stronger my aversion. I further understand that doing everything in the real world vs. simulator means a lot of care refresh shipments, or a stack of functional aircraft in stock to keep me flying. If anyone has practical advice, I am as receptive and humble as one can be.

If your goal is manual mode, you really want to jump into it as soon as safely possible. Or jump into the sim to get to that point. Don't rip around in sport mode all the time with a loose left stick, building false confidence. Many people broke their Avata 2's the first week doing this. It doesn't respond to knee jerk reactions in these modes and you'll crash when you try to get fancy. Most importantly it doesn't teach you anything.
