@SmallSpoonBrigade Жыл бұрын
@@blakespower It's one fewer hop from the TV to your ears, which lessens the time delay. For another, many TVs don't have bluetooth support, and have a limited number of composite out and headphone jacks anyways. There's a a few reasons why more than one person might want to "private listen" at the same time including somebody else in the house that's trying to study or just wanting the improved isolation that it can provide.
@SmallSpoonBrigade
@SmallSpoonBrigade Жыл бұрын
@@thatguyalex2835 I wish more TVs would come with the ability to delay the picture by a split second to make up for that. At present, the best you can usually do is turn off as much of the processing as you can and hope it's enough. I remember when playing Rocksmith, that I had to do some funky wiring in order to get the delay close enough for the game to be playable.

The best thing on the Roku app for me is getting to use wireless headphones with an older tv that doesn’t have Bluetooth capability built-in or a Roku remote with a built-in headphone Jack. But it doesn’t work on hotel networks for me which I hope Roku can fix one day.

I got a Roku (That I guess I really over paid for), while visiting the US recently. Given it was the Cheap 40$ dongle thing, that costs less than 20€s here for. It never had a Headphone Jack. My nVidia Shield Pro (2015), Remote however does. Though TBF the Roku Express is very pocketable, unlike the Shield. Hopefully I'll be able to get my VPN Service off my Phone, and into the wider LAN soon to take advantage of having a US based Roku. Again not nowing that that side was less Hardware, and more of an Internet Setup side, of it.

@AlbertaStrength There is plenty of free Channels on Roku as well as the major Streaming Services. Besides the Roku Channel, and the movies to be found there-in it also has Pluto TV, which is more or less the same thing. As someone who has used an nVida Shield (Android TV), these last five years. I have to say, that I find the UI, of the Roku to be more simplistic, and less cluttered than that of Googles Android TV Platform.

You may want to add an extra disclaimer to the private channels section or just remove it entirely. Roku shutdown/removed all the private channels back in February and replaced it with a beta system that limits the amount of users. There may be a few that seem like they can be added but they will just bring you to a 404 page when you try to add them.

Great video, thank you for posting. The best feature you did not mention in your list is the voice recognition feature when you press and hold the mic down. You can find almost anything and Roku does a pretty good job at giving you all the options within roku. Many times do you guys find yourself in this scenario.. you just watched the great show you kind of remember the name but you do not remember the app that you watched it on. This is when this feature is very helpful.

The main factor for choosing my first Roku device was the private listening option. I was trying to choose between the Amazon 4k stick and the Roku 4k stick, both on sale for around $25 on black Friday sales, but couldn't decide on one. I then found the Roku Ultra Lt with the headphone jack built into the remote for $30. As someone who is on a different sleep schedule than everyone else in my house this was the best choice for me, well worth the extra $5. I haven't gotten around to using it much yet though. (The main reason for even getting a streaming device in the first place was so I could turn my gaming consoles off when I just want to watch something, but so far I've noticed some negatives using the Roku. I'm not sure if it's the device being used or the company behind the app, but one of the main ones I watch (free with ads) has many more ads on the Roku compared to my xb1, which kind of partially defeats the purpose of getting the Roku in the first place as I'll probably stick with console to watch it.)
@SmallSpoonBrigade
@SmallSpoonBrigade Жыл бұрын
It's worth noting that the Android app does support private listening, so there's no need to do that with the controller. I haven't tried it with multiple connections, so I don't know if 2 people can be using that when there are other people that don't want to be disturbed.

Wow I already knew this stuff. You forgot to mention for blind people, I am blind, but specifically blind people who are totally new to the roku and just got it, there is a screen reader. If you showed that in another video, great! But if you haven't, well, then, other blind viewers might be confused because they didn't know it had a screen reader. Since you're not blind, you might not be used to a device reading something to you, it will drive you crazy, but the screen reader is there for a reason, it's because there are blind people who use it. It needs to be accessible with screen readers, and luckily, it is. I've played around with these things. Hopefully you understand the accessibility needs for us blind people, and can possibly make a video to other blind people about how to use the roku with a screen reader. Unfortunately, for those who are blind and speak more than one language, the roku only supports english for the screen reader, but that really doesn't matter to me, because I only speak english. But yes. It is accessible. You press the star button for times to turn it on, and the same to turn it off. I do get frustrated when I have to use a virtual keyboard with it, because I hate virtual keyboards! LOL

I have a roku tv and love that I can get a show listing when watching live tv, since I don’t have cable. I also have a non-roku tv. If I add a roku device to that tv, will I get a listing of tv shows on live tv like I get on the roku tv? Thanks.

I'd like to see a video about all the channels it offers and what the difference is. It seems like it would take a lifetime to go through all of the channels

I brought a Roku couple of years ago and I also bought a fire stick I connected it it didn't work I called Roku and they told me I would have to pay $70 a one time fee. I took the fire stick back and I just watch regular television now. I do have the internet trying to figure out how to connect that to the Roku😁

There are no fees to connect to Roku , that's a scam , please don't fall for it.

Zoom: If I use screen mirroring from my iPhone, can I use the phone’s zoom to better see subtitles, etc? Or, is it still basically casting? I don’t quite understand the benefits of mirroring. Great video!

Can you transmit audio through Bluetooth speaker(s)? My TV is just a monitor with no audio? Get conflicting info on this; some say yes but only via headphones put in remote.

One thing you forgot to mention is that you can also use your the Roku TV as a wireless display if you're wifi is down and it works flawlessly if you have a good phone with an amazing data plan.

I have just been given an old television and know nothing, but I have unlimited data on my iPhone. Does this mean that I can use the TV with Roku and no broadband? Thank you for your very useful information. Actually I am also interested in watching channels like rumble and wonder if that is one of the channels that Roku has deleted. ? Hoping you have the time to answer, thank you 💜🙏💜

Smartview and my roku. I used it a lot until I tried sideloading moviebox pro to my roku ultra last night. Now I don't have to use smartview , downloaded the hello world first then the movie box pro app and it works perfectly. Should have done this sooner. Thank you roku.

I bought my first Roku 3 years ago, mainly because of the USB input so I could attach an external hard drive to watch videos... home videos that I transferred from my old Hi8 video tapes (boy that was a lot of work... HAH !)... and DVD's that I ripped to MP4's. Bought another one for my other TV that my wife mainly watches... we have taken a Roku 3 on vacation for years to watch stuff with family member instead of screwing around with rental homes & hotels TVs and cable providers. Just bought a Roku Ultra, and gave one of my Roku 3's to my brother to enjoy. I do prefer a Roku box instead of a Roku TV or a "smart TV"... I like the portability of the Roku Box ! I wish I could screen mirror from the Roku to my PC (to record stuff), but I would probably need an HDMI input on my computer ?

That is one of the things I like most about the Roku is that I can just unplug and disconnect it from my TV, and throw it, it's small power supply and a HDMI cable in my suitcase when I'm travelling, then connect it to the internet (and a TV) wherever I am and continue watching without any interruptions or drama. The USB input for an external hard drive was one of the reasons I initially bought a Roku, so I could watch TV shows, movies, etc that I had already downloaded to my computer. I started to love it's interface and ease of use later on because of it. I've used a Firestick, multiple android boxes and Apple TV boxes since then, and none can compare in my opinion.

I dont have the screensaver option in media on my roku remote app. Any suggestions? Also where do you find the code for private channels? I'm wanting to see if RTE is available.

I just bought a Roku Express the other day and tried the private listening - using the app on the phone with bluetooth earbuds. I gotta say that's pretty impressive. That this little thing can negotiate all the various connections and protocols and still deliver decent audio that had zero latency. Amazing. I have a question about using this in a hotel room. If you connect the Roku to the hotel wi-fi, and try to use the phone app, is it going to be able to mate the roku with the app remote if there are other Roku devices connected to the same network ?

I'm not completely positive but I'm pretty sure you can choose the name of the TV or roku box that you wan't to connect to and it should work.

Roku is simpler to use, has a remote finder and Roku doesn't track you like Google does.

Apps tend to hit the Roku before anything else, Spectrum for example do not have a Google TV app yet. The only other advantage is Roku supports AirPlay, handy if you are in the Apple ecosystem.

Okay for PlayStation if you have the One touch button option enabled on the Roku TV and on your PlayStation does that mean every time I turn on my TV the PlayStation will also turn on or do I need to connect it through CES every time? Thanks
