@@TheNickoslicKnot really. 43" and 50" actually uses VA panel unlike the larger sizes that uses ADS panel. They still use Mini-LED backlight just that the smaller ones will have better contrast and blacks, which is what you want in a tv

I have a LG C1 OLED TV with a ZOOM button that lets me zoom in on part of the screen, which I use often. I think Samsung has a feature on one of its TVs that lets you change the size of the TV image on their 80 something inch TV from 80 something all the way down to 40 something. I think this is a great way to not have to look at giant faces when watching talking heads, just change to 40 or 50 something marches, then for movies or cinematic TV shows, which to FULL SCREEN SIZE. Does this all make Sense? Know of any makes and models of TVs with these features? Thanks!
@jonathanparle842910 ай бұрын
I use the cinema zoom function on my old LG TV to drastically reduce the black bar real estate on the top and bottom of the screen. What I lose on the far left and right of the picture is to me a very small price to pay. Of course I would not admit doing this to any videophile, let alone post on the internet for all to see that I do this given that it is considered to be cinematic sacrilege 🙃

The QN90C used to be pretty high on my TV buying watchlist but with Dolby Vision steadily becoming the premium HDR format of choice for most streaming services as well as making its way more and more to 4K blu rays, I decided to scratch it off the list. I know that to a lot of people think the exclusion of Dolby Vision is not a big deal, but if you're paying a lot of money for a premium TV then you'd expect all the premium features. I doubt that Samsung will ever bow to pressure and finally start to support Dolby Vision but I kind of feel like they'll start to get left behind if they don't.
@michaelbeckerman753210 ай бұрын
Agreed. All of Hollywood is moving in the direction of Dolby Vision now. Very few films are being released in HDR10+ today. It's really just a matter of time before Samsung will have to finally cave in and support Dolby Vision. Now, Dolby Vision isn't perfect and it still has its flaws and shortcoming, of course, but it is what the film industry has settled on for their default HDR format now it appears. Samsung can only try and buck that trend for so long.
@bpowick10 ай бұрын
@@michaelbeckerman7532 it’s kind of similar to the old blu ray vs HD DVD battle. Technically HD DVD was slightly better but blu ray had more backing from movie studios so it won out in the end. HD DVD went the way of the Dodo. I guess it’s the same with any competing technologies within the movie industry, eventually one will win out. Dolby Vision is winning the premium HDR format race and if Samsung continue to refuse to support it they could end up getting left behind.

Depends on the usage? If you watch a lot of movies and older content (like on cable vision.) Or overall just stream a lot! Then go with the Sony because of its upscaling and processing. If you play a lot of video games then go with the Samsung. I’d personally choose the S90C over this tv though. It’s basically the S95C if you get the 77inch that comes with the 2nd gen panel. And it’s about $2000-$2300 right now. Thats a huge deal!

How many dimming zones do these have? I'm getting tired of manufacturers hiding that information.
@michaelbeckerman753210 ай бұрын
They don't tell you because they don't want you to be able to make your purchase decision based on a criteria that they don't think you should be making it on. Just knowing the number of dimming zones doesn't tell you which TV has better/more advanced local dimming capabilities. If the processor can't control those zones effectively, then you could have one million zones and it wouldn't do you a damn bit of good. This is why TVs with lower zone counts but better processors (like the Sony LED's) consistently outperform TVs with higher zone counts and weaker processors.

The pricing on this TV is ridiculous compared to the QN90C, especially if you plan on using it primary as a gaming/PC monitor. The small incremental improvements don't justify the price when compared against the QN90C and it's current price.

120 to 144 is big improvement, not a "small incremental improvement" and the 43" QN90D is only $200 more right now

@@wobble108 not sure what you own, but i have G4 and noone can see this in reality. It's pretty damn bright too. On the other hand, i have the same Samsung as a computer monitor and it still have quite a lot of bloom, especially off-angle. Also uncomparable on color reproduction...

Is there a difference between the QN90D and QN95D?
@JuanchoMan78 ай бұрын
I first bought a qn90b which had dirt inside the panel, got the panel replaced for one with bad pixels, so they gave me my money back. I bought a qn90c with dead pixels, got the panel replaced twice and never got one with perfect pixels. They replaced it with a new one, but now I'm noticing dead pixels again. I think I will buy LG next.

Is it worth the extra $$$$? In the 85" size I can get the QN90C for $2k (government employee discount). The QN90D is $3150 for that same size.

How long do previous year’s top oled tv’s last until they run out typically in the following year? Do they make it to Black Friday? I’m saving up for a 2023 lg oled which would be my first tv but am worried it might run out soon
@alexmaclean110 ай бұрын
While it's only one person, I will say I bought my 2022 QN90B on Black Friday of 2023, and the BB store I got it from had 4 more on the pallet when I got mine. Good chance you will still find one then :)
@TheTechSwedePeter10 ай бұрын
They usually sell out during early summer to clear out stock. You would be very lucky if you found a C3/G3 during upcoming black friday

Lots of folks seem to enjoy the oversaturated/contrasted Samsung colors. Personally I much prefer Sony or LG TVs in the same range.
@michaelbeckerman753210 ай бұрын
I can't believe that it's 2024 now and Samsung is STILL drastically over-saturating and over-boosting their colors by default on every single model of TV they sell. Why? Who exactly do they think they are fooling with that? When your colors look entirely fake, artificial and cartoonish right out of the box, what exactly have you accomplished by doing that? Who exactly is that supposed to be impressing at this point?

Something that is already trending is that the QN90D This year's VA panel is which apparently has improved the viewing angles and contrast, plus the dimming zones do a very good job 😊

$1100 difference between 85" QN90D and QN85D? Surely the sound isn't worth that - especially when most people won't even use it. What's the difference? dimming zones? brightness?

Is the tv's processor and Image processing a big thing for HDMI sources though? I use a Apple TV 4K (current gen) and i would think the tv's own processing would be fairly minimal compared to the ATV's and what ever app I am using on it, vs using the Tv's built in apps.

Well, after seeing this video (especially about the brightness) and some reviews of PC OLED displays (eg: The Display guy) : seems to me that the (upcoming) 4k 240Hz 32 inches are not that good, especially at their prices ($1199 or more) Can wait to see reviews of those QN90D... 144 Hz seems good enough for playing (PC) games 😋😎 EDIT : 240Hz would be great, but using which HDMI ? 2.1 ?
