Part of the reason their "shitty" format works so well is also exactly because the corporate world is so blatantly overpolished. It's a refreshing contrast. And the content is genuinely good. Thanks for the insight, Virtual Vermicelli!

I came across that first consultants video when it was initially posted and felt immediately that it was like some beautiful mix of a Jon Stewart-era Daily Show correspondent segment or Colbert bit meets the modern internet (with a dash of Eric Andre). I was so confused cause the video was so fucking good I was ready to go binge every other video on the channel and it was the only one there. Glad it popped off and they stuck with it. Such great content, now I watch every one as soon it gets posted.

Thank you so much for this interview! Good Work has without a doubt been my favorite channel this year. I'm happy they chose to look like a "low production" since there's too many KZbinrs doing super perfect editing lighting sound etc. It makes it so original and like how KZbin was in the beginning where people did videos for themselves.

I love finding out about channels I've not heard of before. I went and watched a few of their videos and most definitely subscribed. I find the discussion about the stripped down look or "under-producing" really interesting. I recently tried subbing to a channel about a topic and a person whose story really interested me. I was eager to follow along. Strangely, though, being kind of an impatient and scrappy person myself, the videos on the channel were just beautiful. Incredibly produced. Shiny, shiny down to every last detail. I had to leave. I couldn't take it. Maybe one of the keys to youtube success stories from the very beginning really was the relatability of enough mess to seem natural. Thanks DS - you're another new to me channel I'm enjoying a lot.

I just started bingeing their episodes from most recent to oldest, and am really enjoying not just the content they are covering, but also that there is a thread of the reporter's journey as a person, which is equally funny to me. @rainbomg7 ай бұрын
What Dan said about Henry being an important part of the creative process by helping him know when to stop is often true in my experience, as well. I’m a painter and I’ve always benefitted from having folks walk through the studio and tell me when they think something should be left alone. I’ve found when left to my own devices I’ll just keep messing with things and ruin half of them. Of course you don’t always stop just bc someone says to, but this should be just bc you know for a fact it’s not done yet. So those times that you’re _not_ taking that advice to leave something alone are instances where you’ve got a clear, specific plan in your head for where a piece is going to end up. When the advice is so helpful is when you don’t have an exact outcome planned, when you’re really being spontaneous and letting the thing come from pure creativity, and when that creativity is open and unrestrained it has no construct to keep it controlled or focused (or stuck). This is why changing your medium is such a good way to overcome an artist’s block, because the better you get at one thing, the more you master your tools and technique, the more you understand the capabilities of a medium, the more restricted your thinking will be as you use it. Only when you’re unsure of how a new medium works can you really push past the skill based masterful brain and release that curious and hopeful demon that drives our creative process. It’s also how we improve over time, because simply doing the things you’re already good at will not force growth. _hmm scary stuff_ 📹 🎤🧥📑

as a black woman, the appeal of good work (besides the incredibleeeee writing and editing) is the fact that dan looks like a stereotypical white finbro. but in actuality he’s a white guy (who might not be corrupted by capitalism?) demystifing some of the most gatekept White Guy Industries. it’s a very self-aware, almost self-referential kind of commentary. and the comedy is on point bc these industries really are bizarre and deserve critique. also i haven’t heard the name pomplamoose in FOREVER wow
