Mutombo's coach, Dan Issel, who worked with him in the early 90s, remembered the Hall of Famer as a large personality on the winning team.

Dikembe was an exceptional leader. He made shot blocking appear effortless. The wagging of the finger is a signature we have fond memories of, and definitely miss!! Mutombo made someone like I realise that a good defence makes a great offense! Rest in power, Dikembe!!!!

One of the few basket ball players who was selfless on and off the court. A man with honesty and integrity. He built a hospital in his home town.

That 1994 Nuggets team was a great team. I felt that their core was a few years away from being a contender. What a shame it wasn't kept intact.

So many great players Mutombo and Chris Dolman both passed from brain cancer. Both were such giving souls.
