You are very clever sir; I applaud you. You see, I have a crazy math problem I am creating and solving with many parts and equations. With your help, I also found that it's kinda like a translation too: The translations between the center of dilation and the point you are working on, just multiply that by the scale factor, then add of subtract from the original coordinates! Thank you, sir, for your much needed help.

Your drawing @ around 4:25 suggests a 3-dimensional shape [paradigm]......yet, the grid/'x' & 'y' coordinate model is clearly 2 dimensional...... And now, here's my question:..........Why does the "Math Community" use the term "Center of Dilation" when the "center" [especially in this case] is NOWHERE near [or on] the transformed image????????????! ........... I await your reply...
@pyramlinum9514
@pyramlinum9514 6 жыл бұрын
The center of dilation is the centerpoint from which the object is scaled. If you take a look at the example you referenced, you'll see that the points that connect with the scaled version and its preimage all intersect at the center of dilation. If you were to take any point on those 3 lines, you would find that they all orient around the center of dilation. In short, the center of dilation isn't the center of the image, it's the centerpoint from which it was scaled. It would, however, be on the scale if the center of dilation was inside of the dilated shape. Another similar example: A center of rotation, where you rotate an object around it, isn't going to be any closer to the transformed image than it was to the original, because it's a location around which the object pivots. A more specific example: A spot on a tire isn't going to get any closer to the axle of the wheel no matter where it is on the tire, because it's rotating around that point. the axle isn't _part_ of the spot on the tire, but it is rotating around it. Hope that helped you, even if you got that cleared up already.
