@@Lifeofshawn077 definitely not a contralto…a true contralto is somebody like della Reese. She’s a high mezzo soprano

Your analysis is right on the money. I am forever fascinated by her technique. She purposefully keeps her big voice contained and small in order to have enough breath to perform the complicated ornamentation she is so adept at. She is not as agile as Brandy is though. I think she is, stylistically speaking, a faux lyric mezzo. She might even be a dramatic mezzo if she chooses to develop that way. Her voice is much richer, more powerful, more traditionally feminine and pretty in her middle range. She also prefers singing pushed (a forced rasp), she doesn't care about sounding traditionally feminine, beautiful, or sexy. That is part of her attraction because she dares to be different. I really admire how easily she accesses her lower range. I wonder sometimes, when she approaches middle age if she might turn into a true contralto....

I always thought she was a Contralto because she can sing low notes and that they are well supported. I'm starting to see her as a Mezzo-Soprano though. I tend to focus on their comfortable tessitura WAY more than their overall timbre.

I saw an article in the german digital newspaper "Die Zeit" about Jazmine's new album "Heaux Tales" where they mentioned you talking about her great voice and ability years before she really got the recognition she has today. I remember seeing this video a few years ago and I totally agree with you..now and then. I love singing, it sets the spirit free and heals. I just never had someone to teach me how to use techniques and to have control over the voice. I definetly shoud go for it.

I love, love, LOVE Jazmine Sullivan. Her voice is everything. Also, I love the vocal direction she is heading with this album. Her mixing is becoming lighter, warmer and more head dominated. I just wanna know how big she can go, because it was some Eb5s she was belting on this cover of "get lucky" and she got pretty large. But I kinda got to disagree with you on her having a heavy voice. IMHO, she has a dark and rich voice with plenty of density, but at core she's a corvette, LOL, a corvette with hips and curves LOL. As far as the straining thing, she doesn't push the way she used to. She places her sound slightly higher than she used to and her voice rings so much. Knowing Jazmine, she's such a tonal manipulator she played with her placement and just got it right... She's so talented LOL. Also can you do one on Anastacia? She has one of the biggest voices ever. Between F#5-A5, her voice is just....BOOM!!!!!!

Dileesa Hunter Okay, I just saw 2 performances from Jazmine singing she uploaded to her vevo and she was singing some B4s/C#5s/D5s/D#5s in HV and she has one of the most gorgeous HVs out.... Its dark, warm and fairly cavernous for a mezzo. I think she can extend up to B5 without any effort just by how she played around with those middle notes... Like she was giving us great phrasing agility, and volume control with these notes. I think you should check it out LOL.

Great Vocal Analysis...However her technic isn't a western or classical approach....She uses her unique guttural raspy sound to convey intense lyrics that make her fans (vocalists, singers, black women & black gay men) swoon! She is a blend of Jazz- improvisation, Gospel- Intensity, & Soul- lyrical interpretation. SHE IS ACCESIBLE NEO SOUL (unlike Badu) that's due to her Gospel verve. She is a VOCAL STYLIST- like a Nancy Wilson or Kim Burrell. You see this in the agility & ability to jump octaves, runs (melismas) lyrical interpreatation and rhythmic phrasing. On her hit FOREVER DONT LAST TO LONG- you hear a low range that is full then a mix of belt & head voice...She sounds like a warm monsoon in the moring..I regard her as the most important VOCALIST today! She is setting the standard for new vocal approaches that is lyrically based and not over done like Gospel.....Her voice is a instrument in the song & like Aretha (Natural Woman) shes able to blend into the musical performance & use her IMPECABLE VOICE & musical intelligence to create musical narrative- not dominate (like Patti) ....If Whitney was alive today - she would love the natural musicality and pure vocal sound of Jazmine Sullivan....

Aspired? You're either one or you're not. Contraltos are rare. Baby Rose is an example of a young one. Jazmine and most of the other ones are warm Mezzo-Sopranos who usually get mistaken for Contraltos.

How do you explain Jazmine's bottom range. mezzo sopranos cant do that, shes a mezzosoprantenorcontralto, right Dileesa? LOL. I made that up, and Jazmine is one of them mezzopranotenorcontralto's of this world.
@NeffyLe10 жыл бұрын
Yes she can. There's a huge misconception one what sopranos, mezzo-sopranos and contraltos are. I also can assure you that in that space, Jazmine is very much a mezzo. There are several true contraltos out there that have lower registers much fuller than Jazmine's. A lot of people hear Jazmine's eerie, dark and rich middle register and think contralto but it's not fully the case. In fact there are Mezzo-soprano's with fuller bottoms than Jazmine but you also must remember that Jazmine is really young and her lower register with get stronger as she ages. Also in pop music, voices will be lower than in classical/opera music because singers aren't singing with as much vocal support or projection. When you project a low note, you're trying to make it go as loud as possible. The only way you can sing a low note loud is if you find the balance between how low you can go and how much voice you can carry on the note. With Jazmine and any other pop singer it's different. It's all about the tone and the depth. So they thin out their vocal folds to hit those super low notes but these super low notes are rather quiet and lacking in power compared to an opera singer. Jazmine can hit a G#2 and A#2 live but projecting wise, F3 is the lowest she can go because that's as much as her voice can handle.
@christiancolo77682 жыл бұрын
