Brooks was not the sole reason why they lost the series. The 2 biggest factors is the loss of Steven Adams and Clarke from the series. AD had a great series because he didn't have to contend with Adams or Clarke. Jaren is a great defensive player but he tends to get in foul trouble.

Dillon is an easy target but people quickly forgot the team factors at play all year. They were doomed earlier in the season as news reports circulated. They painted Morant as a horrible NBA star that needed help. It didn’t matter if he scored 40, he was ridiculed. I agree that Brooks pushed a few negative issues all year. That issue between him and Sharpe stands out. There were a handful of other team factors that contributed to them being sent home though. It wasn’t all Brooks’ fault (unless someone finds that he also pointed the red laser at the Pacers players). Nor is he a terrible player. He didn’t shoot well nor did he dominate the middle game. It would’ve helped to get extra boards and more steals/blocks but after looking at his regular season stats, the Grizzlies knew what he was about. He attempted more 3’s than just about everyone on the team which surprised me. Coach could’ve benched him if that’s not the game they wanted from him. He did poke the bear but that happens all the time. Other players take shots at LeBron and the media chimes in every single year. He’s been one of the most disrespected stars, if not the most, in the NBA. Brooks could’ve gained a little more respect if he spoke at the press conference and even if he was seen shaking LeBron’s hand after the game. I could tell by their conversation prior to one of the games that Dillon was nervous. He knew that he might’ve been off more than he could chew. It was a ploy that would’ve landed him another contract if he a) held LeBron to 20 and b) won the series. Reference : Kobe and Matt Barnes meetings
